  1. So an engineer can retrofit it on a ship that you want to have a thermometer (for reasons) but doesn't have one at the moment.
  2. As stated before, extended tweakables that allow single parts to be tweaked meeting a limited set of options would be great. Fuel tanks with a discrete range of diameters and heights (as well as fuel storage types) Nose cones with a discrete range of diameters Beams and girders The construction tubes and exhaust plates already show this is possible and it would greatly reduce the number of parts in the designer,
  3. There are, but contracts suggest you are playing in career mode, so you don’t have wheels yet unlocked in the science tree. Wait until you unlock wheels build a tiny rocket that goes up 20 m, hovers, and lands next to the launch pad using two mk1’s on either end and a piece of 1.25m fuselage, build “The Rolling Pin of Science” and roll the contraption over to where you need it to be using its SAS controls.
  4. The flag could be given a unique ID, and then perhaps be loaded from a special screen in the VAB onto the vessel. That would also be more in line with the spirit of the contract - not just any flag, but the specific flag the sponsor (undoubtely loaded with signatures) has provided for this contract. Now, if this ID tracking could somehow be done with resources it would address the "harvest x units of ore on the surface of y and bring it to z" tomfoolery by harvesting ore and bringing another load to the desired destination. but it's easy to see the practical challenges with that.
  5. Richard Branson, one of the richest people in the world as a passenger. While no longer CEO, I'm sure it would look silly for any of the Virgin brands to lose their founder/majority shareholder/former CEO in an accident where there could be a chance of survival with a chute. And once you go down that route, you can't say to the other crew "you're not worthy enough, we'd rather save the weight." The lack of oxygen masks surprised me, but I guess the reasoning is that any incident with a hull breach will be nearly always lethal.
  6. My first thought was the same — it would reduce “flag abuse” in contracts. But… you’d just plant a flag, cash in on the contract, and take the flag back. Which wouls solve nothing from a contract perspective. So in the end it would just add hassles, and not solve the contract issue. Aside from that I think it would still make sense to add them as an inventory item though. Just for those Kerbalesque “you didn’t bring a flag!” moments.
  7. The HW requirements of 2 will still be significantly more than 1 (which, with the 1.12 update, is now making my PC struggle as well). When you’re not really into gaming there’s not a lot else to worry about. The way I see it, is that I’ll likely need new hardware to run 2, and until it hits the street it’ll be relatively unclear what is needed. So I’ll wait for it to hit the streets, wait for feedback from forum and youtube, then decide on the hardware and after that get 2. Until then, just like now, 1 will do just fine.
  8. The density of the moon is a factor too. So they could exist inside the rings, but they're likely small but fairly heavy.
  9. 1) As a company, the deeper your pockets, the greater the chances are that you're getting a lawsuit from a Greedy Lawyer 2) Explain the Vis Viva equation to me in plain English. Don't use math terms because your audience doesn't like them. But make sure we're getting the same results. 'Legalize" is exactly the same — it's formula's for court rooms. It's consice, unambiguous and if you're trained for reading it, very clear. 3) I doubt they want to start their survey with, but... see point 1. I am not a lawyer but the T&C basically state that: If you say "KSP is a great game," in the survey, T2 will not get sued for copyright infringement when quoting "users stated 'KSP is a great gane' in a recent survey" Suing T2 for false advertising as they quote survey results, and you know that your entire classroom full of kids was forced by you to enter the survey, so you have proof of the survey's invalidity You entered the comment "I play KSP at home when my employer thinks I'm working from home" and now you got fired over it. Clearly T2 informed your boss. Well, instead of having to proof they didn't (it's always hard to proof you did not do something) they can just point to that section in the T&A. Yes, each of these things sound absolutely outrageous but if you can get a $50,000 settlement instead of continuing litigation and basically earn money by doing nothing... there's a lot of greedy lawyers out there. That's why they do this.
  10. Is it just to save money? You have same lofty expectations about the competency of US government IT services. On a similar note, more worrying is the tendency of having remote control of energy infrastructure (switching stations, powerplants, etc) connected through the internet. You can’t hack what’s not connected, and it seems to be a major target.
  11. Still waiting for that self-sustaining base in the antarctic. If you can't make that proof-of-concept work, Mars ain't going to happen.
  12. Yeah, there were some implementation issues and they’ll be rolled out through a patch. Not the 12.1 patch though, because that’s a hotfiz for some bug.
  13. Now what else is loaded in cartridges, supposedly tightly controlled yet criminals get their hands on easily? Fuel manufacturers have no incentive to help the banks with their little money problem, I doubt such a convoluted scheme would ever work. However, just like ij ocean shipping, it should be easy to chain up any ship that has an outstanding warrant, assuming the entire universe of ports and stations is law-abiding. Which is likely not the case either.
  14. Don't timewarp past realtime. If you haven't played in a week, don't warp more than a week. If you oick up where you left yesterday, don't warp past 24h. Even a Minmus return now has a lot on the line when you've invested at least a week into it.
  15. Objectively I'd say base 12, since that makes things easily divisible by 2, 3, 4 and 6. There's benefits with hex when you write machine language but I don't think our number system should be geared towards masochists. That reminds me of the most inefficient word in the English language: "Queue" - which could be spelled 80% shorter ("Q") without losing any of the pronunciation.
  16. Well, there's this thread... Based on the screen shots in there I'd say "yes"
  17. When it pops up in "Unread posts" that might not be immediately obvious, and using — while technically correct — "the sun" instead of "Kerbol" doesn't really remove any confusion either. With such ambiguity I felt it would help to clarify the question, as no such effort was taken when posting it.
  18. Well, you forgot to mention that electromagnetic cloaking and graviton wave deflectors are so massive that only the largest battleships can carry them, and thus are the only ships that are fully undetectable by any means. So in fact, large battleships are the only ships capable of surviving the future battlefield.
  19. "The wromg way" I'd answer it right now, but I'm too busy driving my golf cart to the garage because the battery light is no longer green. I guess you'd pronounce it like any other word starting with a G?
  20. From time to time fans express fears that KSP2 doesn't truly capture the Kerbal Spirit. A nuclear engine intended to be used in the atmosphere? Is there any doubt regarding the Kerbal Spirit left?
  21. Merriam-Webster has multiple definitions for the word gimmick, but I assume you’re going with “a trick or device to attract business or attention.” New launch sites are very exciting, and with different latitudes can offer new launching challenges. So I’m going with feature. ”But we already have three extra launch sites.” ”But only if you bought Making History”
  22. The likelihood of securing a loan depends on how certain the loan provider is with recovering their money. To a certain extend the interest rate can cover that but a very high rate is worthless if the entire market collapses (read: the 2008 house market crash). So, if you're not repaying your loan, the bank will repossess. Depending on how easy that process is (houses: really easy. Cars: harder but easy. Spaceships: ???). In a game where lawlessness is the standard (Elite Dangerous), chances of recovering the ship (and then selling it for enough money) seems unlikely and has driven the foolish banks who finance that out of business; leaving paying up front in cash the only option.
  23. How would this work? Show an AARP card to get a discount? I’m in “that age group” but I seriously don’t understand why older players should pay less.
  24. Something similar where I grew up; pounds are used for 500 g masses, and ounces are 100 g. They are not “legal units” but everyone in a store will know what you want if you order a pound of meat or two ounces of licorice.
