Gooey octopus like guys from one of Squad videos chilling on shores, running away when a Kerbal approaches. I'd like to see that.

Duna's ice caps are too big
lajoswinkler replied to Mitchz95's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
An old and quite valid complaint, but with modification - the sizes of the caps aren't the most important thing, their shapes are. They are basically equal. It would be a lot better if there was some diversity, like if one cap was smaller and their borders were variable like real polar caps are on Earth and Mars. Valleys of red among the weird peninsulas of white. -
the new cargo bays are too small...
lajoswinkler replied to JtPB's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
This is an useless complaint. If you want more space, use Procedural Fairings. This is a spaceplane cargo bay for small satellites. It is fine. -
What a misleading clickbait of a title... One would think you've actually found the sandcastle on the surface of Mun and you are here to give us the coordinates. Seeing it in the title screen is not notable. It happens every now and then.

So I finally got around to writing a KSP review on Steam.

I will find you and then I'm going to thumbup you. (Did that come out wrong? LOL) -
I've deployed them after the plasma, and during the supersonic effects. Then I've tried deploying them after those, too. Still nothing. The vessel falls down and crashes into the ground regardless of the time of deploying. I did update to 6.1., that's why I'm puzzled. Could it be another mod messing this up? Anyway, reentry itself seems to be more dangerous and I applaud that. One thing worries me - can we simulate stuff like throwing probes into Venus? Soviet scientists didn't brake those probes. They'd just arrange an atmospheric periapsis and that was it. Last time I did that in KSP, the probe cores could not withstand the G-force, which is weird because those aren't Kerbals. Machines should tolerate a lot more. That's weird. They should have alpha channels, I've included them while exporting. Give me some time to figure this out and maybe try with Photoshop. The software I was working with is ancient (like, really) so perhaps that was the reason. Tell me the format of the file you prefer.

If the number of elements is fixed, a large rope would look like a weird chain upon extending. If the number is growing, it would have the potential to crash the game (unless there's a limitation) because that's like having a vessel with lots of parts. Such mod would be ok if the rope had a limited length, such as 5 m, so that the number of elements is tolerable. It would be cool, I admit it.

Stock parachutes (no RealChute installed) don't behave correctly for me, and I think DRE might be the problem. They don't deploy upon staging, and when I manually deploy them using a right click, they become empty. No cord, no fabric. Not even deploying sound. I've noticed the whole reentry plasma phase is a lot longer now. Whether it's because of DRE or simply v0.25 KSP, I don't know, but I like it. If only the parachutes would work.

It's what happens to a blobfish when you pull it out of its high pressure depths. It gets rekt. I've edited both photos for The Verne Gun thread back then.

This is more an idea than a request. Wouldn't it be fun to see Kerbals distort under high deceleration? As the G-meter goes up, their heads and eyes go down, and face expression shows discomfort... (http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/50684-the-verne-gun/page3) I've seen mods for changing surface features of Kerbals, but none tackling their basic construction.
-
Thanks. Here's the total preview as it would appear in the game. Your avatar made me poop a little. Looks like a blend of a Kerbal and 3D version of FFFUUUU.

I meant the system with the giant enveloping the hole, lol. No, it would last a lot longer than minutes. If the star was collapsing at the speed of light, it would take hours for large red giants, but it's not. Those stars are so huge that any visible change requires a much longer time. Imagine stars the size of Jupiter orbit. Typical red supergiants. There are even larger ones. How long would the collapse last? The outer layers would probably never even move. The inner layers would do the work and push the outer ones away, but even they are enormous and don't move near the speed of light. The same goes for supernovas. For some stupid reason, popular science has raised generations of people thinking it looks like fireworks or atomic bomb. It's a process that lasts for hours and days, in some cases probably even longer if pulsing occurs, what probably happens to Eta Carinae as we speak. The star exists because of an equilibrium between gravitational contraction and radiation pressure. There isn't a reason why in certain cases a black hole couldn't exist in the center for a significant amount of time without the star collapsing. It's like trying to push a fatass through a pinhole. Even worse, actually. There's plenty of fusion going around in the layers around the hole so that the radiation pressure can resist the weight of the material above. In fact, black holes are in some cases possible to form in very large stars before the collapse and supernova (which lasts for a while - it's not "bang!") occurs.
-
A black hole could survive inside a giant star. Of course, such object shouldn't last longer than TZO.
-
It sounds plausible, yes, but TZOs as presented are objects in which the neutron star has already nested inside the giant star. I honestly have no idea if someone did simulations of the neutron star path inside the envelope to see how long it would last. I'm not even sure can we distinguish the nested from still "reentrying" TZOs based on spectrum. I doubt anyone has the slightest clue what exactly happens on the border. It seems to me the only way we could know if the neutron star has nested is based on observing the Doppler shift because the reentrying type would wobble around barycenter. But who knows how long does reentry last? If it's years, chances are extremely slim we'll ever recognize such object.
-
There's a reason why is the neutron star in the red giant in the first place. The giant inflated and the midget companion found itself trapped inside. They both orbit a mutual barycenter so we can say both of them will eventually slow down and come closer to the center. It should go at an exponential rate just like any other reentry, which is exactly what's happening, but on an awesome scale. Such objects are probably relatively ephemeral. A neutron star with a giant stepping on its ass is rather close to collapsing into a black hole. The insides of the neutron star are basically neutrons, so the only related fusion activity is in its atmosphere which is the bottom of a red giant. Even more interesting - the core of a Thorne-Żytkow object could be even more degenerate. Maybe there's a quark star inside of it, who knows?

I know, right? Last night I was spinning and mirroring it, thinking the same thing. Our Ds are wrong. (ok, that came out wrong, lol) Here's what I've got so far (and I like it). (again, download them first, they're got an alpha transparent layer so you can't see much like this) Off mode is basically a white layout of the whole thing, and on mode is plasma shell with the heat shield (D), R (KeRbal inside) and an E (turbulent flow). I tried to go with a pictogram representation of Schlieren photography of reentry effects. Tell me if you want more modifications. Yellow would be more appropriate for the plasma, but then the contrast between the letters and the cone is poor.

Još malo više od 5 sati do kraja popusta.

If you download the files on a black desktop, and icon image preview is enabled, you'll see it all. I'll make 45° versions tomorrow. It's not a problem because I'm using vector graphics. Yeah, I thought of this but then there's no R. Unless... I put it on the capsule? I could make the capsule in the form of letter D, or at least use the letter as a heat shield outline. I'll make several different varieties tomorrow, now it's sleepy time.

I was going for the minimalistic, pictogram approach. Tell me what do you think of this, first. Off mode. On mode v1. On mode v2. On mode v3. Obviously, transparency doesn't allow you to see some/all features, so download them before viewing. I hope PNG is ok.
