  1. So, earlier I was told to avoid the small compact GTX 1060's because they likely would be noisier only having one fan. However, I've been reading lots of reviews of this particular card: http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=06G-P4-6163-KR And everyone is saying that a. it runs quieter than their CPU fan, and b. that they never see temps over 65C at all. That sounds pretty good to me, and it means I don't have to remove part of my case to fit a 11" card in. Also it's cheaper, and has a higher clock than the 279.99 MSI card I was looking at before. And it also has 1x DVI 1x HDMI and 3x Display Port. So it's faster than the MSI, and has the same capabilities, in a smaller and cheaper form factor. Why should I even consider the MSI model?
  2. My avatar is....me! Well, the internet me. If I was actually and enderman in space I wouldn't have a connection to the internet now would I.
  3. Ok guys. Update. My mother has been hospitalized for a few days now, as well as a day last week. I've been running back and forth between hospital and home, taking my siblings to school and back, as well as trying to figure some things out about life. She will be having surgery tonight or in the morning. I won't be updating the list until this ordeal is over. I hope you guys can understand that. And for those who are concerned, it isn't life threatening, but it's still stressful and worrying.
  4. My concern is that the number should be higher. Idle is around 40C and full load is 48C. There should be a bigger difference. Aida64 will run hotter than any game, as it literally puts the CPU under complete full load. It's max work load
  5. Well. I have completely assembled the computer, and it works. I was so happy to see the BIOS screen. I was worried I may have zapped a part because I didn't know about grounding it until after. I installed the OS, and decided to run AIDA64 to do a stress test, I was worried about temps with the stock cooler. Well. I ran the stress test, stressed CPU, FPU, and memory. I ran it for 30 minutes. CPU was at 100% utilization and 3.3GHz for the duration of the test. And....the maximum CPU temperature reached was 49C. I don't know if I should be happy or concerned something isn't working lol. Thoughts? I was able to confirm temperature with multiple programs.
  6. @Camacha The problem with that is you'll get used to different versions and then it'll be chaos
  7. Well the armour is cheaper at newegg, for $269, but there's no option to preorder from newegg. I can't wait to finally get it all together. I'm only waiting on this card and a monitor.
  8. I think I will go with this card: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1264797-REG/msi_geforce_gtx_1060_gaming.html MSI GTX 1060 Gaming X. It's the fastest clocked card, and it's $349 at newegg and only $299 here. Plus I can actually preorder it and get my hands on it when it's back in stock. Thoughts? Should I go for a cheaper card, like the MSI armour? OR should I stick with this one for the boosted performance and preorderability?
  9. It's significant because it's rare and it means that either someone has liked every one of your posts or (more likely) you have some posts that have tons of likes. It's difficult to get a 1:1 ratio, you both have done a great job.
  10. I come to you guys again. So, the 1060 is out of stock everywhere, as expected. But I cannot preorder it, I can only "Auto notify" which means I might miss it. However, for $10 cheaper I could preorder the rx 480 8GB. I've heard that all the rx 480-1060 comparisons were done on the 4GB model, would the 8GB be any better? Also, on this particular 480, in the specs it says it supports CUDA...Thought that was Nvidia only? Here's the 480 I'm talking about: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1262547-REG/asus_rx480_8g_radeon_rx_480_8gb.html/prm/alsVwDtl
  11. It takes a bit of time to write 22 descriptions. I have to go and find stuff that everyone is known for and link to threads and mods and artwork and stuff. It's not as easy as it sounds. If you have a request, you can always PM me what you want your description to be.
  12. Congratulations! I know the feeling of sweet relief when you hear the news that you passed. I almost couldn't breathe for ten minutes cause I was so excited and relived. Congats man.
  13. I am aware, it was mentioned a few posts up. It's not a huge problem, nothing that can't be read over for now.
  14. Question. There are many different versions of the GTX 1060, like you would expect, gigabyte, MSI, ASUS....But does the card size matter? Some of the cards are long with dual fans, and then there's a "Mini 1060" that's only the length of one fan. Would that card underperform compared to the full size models? 15. Different group. The LGG only required 500 rep points, the RGG requires 1000. so you've been a part of both groups now, and will be on the RGG from now on.
  16. Yes. And you soared up to 34 from not even being on the list since the last update in march! When I noticed it I was really surprised, you really shot up there.
  17. I'm sorry, did you wish to not be on the list? I can do that for you if it's what you want, but I would prefer you be recognized.
  18. This is true. It appeared alphabetical at first glance, I only assumed. I think they're actually in descending rep order.
  19. Interesting...indeed. It appears to only be descriptions I've edited. All of the ones repeated are ones I remember editing and changing, and if you notice, a lot of the repeated ones are slightly different. This is a new animal altogether.
  20. Went to Oklahoma for a camp. So here's the deal, I had a few kerfuffles with the function that tells me all the new members, but I think I fixed it. So if you've gotten past 1k rep since the last update, and your name isn't mentioned, My apologies. (This is gonna take a while to tag everyone, so give me a bit to do that. ) The list has been updated! It will take me a bit to add descriptions to everyone, but it will be done. Congratulations to our newest members! Here they are, in no order since I have no order. @CobaltWolf @CatastrophicFailure @cubinator @Dman979 @CliftonM @Frank_G @Jett_Quasar @Gaarst @Padishar @Shadowmage @HarvesteR @Thomas P. @Spartwo @benjee10 @tetryds @hoojiwana @Camacha @Tex_NL @Tiberion @Pecan @SpaceplaneAddict @Renegrade @SaturnianBlue @xEvilReeperx @DMSP @luizopiloto @Spaceception I believe that is everyone that has joined since march! Congratulations to you all! And a special congratulations to @HarvesteR, you deserve this more than anyone else. Thank you for this legacy you've created, and good luck in your future endeavors away from KSP. o7
  21. That was the plan, but then I immediately had to leave and go cross country.
  22. have you been keeping up with the thread? I was gone for a week long trip, only posting on my phone, using IRC on my phone, even buying my computer on my phone. I'm back now, working on the program now.
  23. I've seen many people hit 2.025GHz with no other modifications. Just turning up the speed. However, I've also seen that it doesn't totally take the performance to another level. Most people are seeing 6%-9% increase in performance between base clock and 2GHz OC. It is something though, and after overclocking the 1060 puts it's foot down as being better than a 980. (Its nearly identical at base clock)
  24. Well, the 1060 is sold out everywhere, as expected. The question is, were those reviews on base clock? Or did they overclock it to 2GHz?
  25. He never said he needed a good computer for KSP. KSP wasn't even mentioned. He said for gaming *and for designing games.* which might mean he would want something other than a ksp build, which has always been high single core speed and not very many cores. For game dev I would think having more cores would be a benefit, it sure is in animation/image rendering in a program like blender. A video card would serve this purpose good as well. Don't get me wrong, your advice is great, if he asked for a KSP computer. I just feel like everyone defaults to a KSP build even when the person never asked for a KSP build. Maybe I'm wrong, who knows. Just thought I'd throw that out there.
