  1. I'd say interplanetary travel and back. I'm quite seasoned when it comes to phasing angles, deltaV calculations, and what-not. One thing I've been able to get around though is rendezvous. Sure one day maybe I'll be able to figure it out but for now, I got my ol' friend MechJeb for that.
  2. Ahhh look at their faces. They're like "Oh god we're f***ed!" XD
  3. I was wondering all this time if KSP had a TeamSpeak channel. Looks like this is it! I'll jump on in as soon as I can.
  4. I haven't figured out that I had to kill my horizontally before landing. Result: Not very good. The succeeding landings were successful though
  5. Well first of all, I would like to thank Scarecrow88 for making this project/challenge a reality. It was just an idea, but he was extremely kind enough to set things up! OVERVIEW: For Season 1, Jebediah is the only Kerbonaut available to complete the following set of missions, which need to be completed in one flight. Landing back at Kerbin at any time counts as the end of the flight. All orbiting stations that need to be visited are fitted with refuelling facilities, and there are two refuelling depots orbiting around Duna. All of these are fitted with at least one of each type of docking port - junior, standard and senior - and in most cases, more than one of each type is fitted. TASKS: Collect Bill Kerman and one other Kerbal Scientist from the station in Kerbin Orbit Deliver the Kerbin scientist to Mun station and pick up Mun Technician Visit the flag that has been placed at the Armstrong Memorial on Mun Visit the flag that has been placed at one of the arches on Mun Bob is on the station orbiting Minmus, and needs to deliver the lander that is docked to the station to the surface Jebediah and Bill need to deliver the technician to the station orbiting Minmus Bob needs to be retrieved from the surface of Minmus once he has delivered the lander A flag needs to be planted on the surface of Duna A lander that is currently on the surface of Laythe needs a pilot so that it can be returned to Laythe orbit Jebediah, Bill and Bob need to return to Kerbin alive NOTE: These tasks can be completed in whatever order the player deems preferable. Strategy and careful planning is key! POINTS WILL BE AWARDED AS FOLLOWS: Collect Bill and one other from Kerbin station 10pts Visit Armstrong flag 10pts Visit arch flag 10pts Deliver scientist to Mun station 10pts Deliver technician to Minmus station 10pts Deliver Minmus lander to Minmus surface 10pts Deliver lander to <5km from Minmus base +10pts bonus Deliver lander to <1km from Minmus base +15pts bonus --(delivery points are accumulative, so all three can be claimed if the lander is delivered <1km from the base) Plant a flag on surface of Duna 10pts --Bonus points if flag is placed on Duna 'face' +15pts Return Laythe lander to Laythe orbit 10pts --Bonus for docking lander to Laythe station +10pts Land back at Kerbin 10pts --bonus if <10km from KSC +10pts --bonus if <2km from KSC +20pts *Lose 10pts for any of Jebediah, Bill or Bob that do not make it back to Kerbin. *Maximum score that can be accumulated is 170pts for all tasks and bonuses and without incurring a penalty. SCREENSHOTS FOR PROOF ARE REQUIRED AS FOLLOWS: Craft on launch pad with just Jebediah on board Screenshot showing Jebediah, Bill and one other on board after undocking from Kerbin station Plaque on Armstrong flag Plaque on Arch flag Scientist from Kerbin station on board Mun station Technician from Mun station on Minmus station Minmus lander on surface of Minmus, with distance to Minmus base if claiming spot landing bonuses Flag on surface of Duna, clearly showing Duna 'face' if claiming face bonus Laythe lander in orbit or docked to Laythe station if claiming docking bonus Craft on Kerbin showing distance to KSC if claiming spot landing bonus, and showing Jebediah, Bill and Bob for no penalty. Mission elapsed time TO MOD OR NOT TO MOD: Stock craft with no mods for docking or pinpoint landing - visual docking aids are allowed providing they do not control the craft Modified craft with no mods for docking or pinpoint landing - visual docking aids are allowed providing they do not control the craft Stock craft with mods that perform docking and/or landing DOWNLOAD THE PERSISTENCE FILE HERE! GET THE FLAG HERE! Right now I'm still in the process of making the achievement ribbons for this challenge. But right now, what matters is that you all complete this challenge and if it's successful enough, we might soon see Season 2 Goodluck to all!
  6. Aight, I'll try to make one. Albeit at a smaller scale - just the Kerbin system. I'll try to make it as challenging as possible. Stay tuned! Meanwhile, please do still pour your ideas into this thread!
  7. Requires extensive planning with regards to the locations of task flags, the modules that needs to be picked up, location of fuel dumps, and the overall path of the challenge (from Kerbin to the rest of the Kerbol system and back to Kerbin again). It also needs to be made so that players can't just fly pointlessly from one planet to another without following the path anymore (that depends on their personal integrity of course), like the flags provide some kind of clue as to where the next objective is. Lots of planning, designing, engineering to do. Well at least I'm good with Photoshop so maybe I can make a special badge for those who succeed (provided this Amazing Race concept becomes a reality).
  8. Yup! And all it does is go downhill when it encounters an incline. Yes, I have 2 rovers on Mun with the same build. Thoroughly tested on Kerbin - and it worked perfectly until it landed on Eve and Minmus.
  9. This is finally coming together! Maybe we could pour all ideas into this thread then consolidate it into a some sort of final framework for the challenge itself until someone kind enough can implement it in the game and have a save file for us all (because I really can't do it). I think one factor that will make this challenge more difficult is planetary alignment. Waiting for transfer windows for planets where you have a primary task to do can consume an obscene amount of time. So it's all strategy on the challenger's/contestant's part, like, "Do I go straight for that planet or do I swing by Duna and look for a fuel dump?" that sort of thing.
  10. Here are the pictures of my rover: All sturdy and intact... And all good resources wise So no idea why can't I drive it "normally" like I can on the Mun.
  11. TBH, I'm still lacking in abilities. I'm very much a noob compared to others. Heck, I can't even do a rendezvous! So here I am, making my idea heard so someone who has extensive knowledge of deltaV requirements(for the fuel dumps), etc. Another idea is having the instructions for the challenges on plaques that come with planted flags, and making use of coordinates maybe.
  12. This is just an idea that someone with a higher capacity than me is capable of actually implementing. The premise is that there will be a single saved file for download w/c contains all elements of the challenge. It will be a race to collect all required modules scattered (in surface or in orbit) throughout the system and get back to Kerbin in the fastest and most efficient way possible. Fuel dumps will also be situated in strategic locations around the system. Again this is just an idea and it would be great if someone actually made the save for it.
  13. Ah believe me, as far as craft integrity is concerned, everything's intact. Aphrodite I(Eve) is unmanned and has this octagonal Probodobodyne core while Aphrodite II(Minmus) has unma mned core and an external command seat. Tried controlling it both ways, still nope.
  14. I'm pretty sure my wheels are pretty intact and not a single tire burst. I haven't checked the Resources thingy but I'm pretty sure I have electricity since my twin Illuminators are working. I'll be posting pictures in like 6 hours. I'm on my mobile right now.
  15. It's basically a rover fitted under a lander designed to detach upon landing so they could function as two separate entities. I landed the first unmanned version on Eve. Thing is, I landed on the slope so the rover sped downhill. I switched to it trying to counter the downhill acceleration but it didn't seem to work except for the brakes. When I reached a rather flat surface, I tried driving again but it won't budge and instead, kept speeding away at the slightest incline. I thought to myself, "Well it might be the high gravity here" so I launched a second version of the rover with pretty much the same specs, except it was a manned-unmanned hybrid - this time to Minmus. It won't budge again save for brakes and steering. NOTE: I tested the rover thoroughly before launching it and I'm positive it moved just fine on Kerbin. When I was on Minmus and Eve, I double checked if the motors were enabled. They were. They're also stocked with batteries and a couple of radioisotope generators so I'm pretty sure power is not a problem. I'm GUESSING it might be the wheels, those beige sleeks w/c I think has something to do with grip. I don't even know anymore. So if anyone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, it will be very much appreciated! I'll try posting pictures tomorrow.
  16. I was trying to send my first probe into space that time. I knew what an orbit was but I had no idea had to do it. So all my probes showed up as "sub orbital trajectory" in the Tracking Center. I was like "so that's how satellites work? They go on a curved trajectory and splash down at the end of their lifetime?" Pretty dumb when I think about it now XD Also, when I was first trying to land on the Mun, I never realized I had to kill horizontal velocity before touching down. Result: bodies of Kerbonauts strewn on alien soil.
  17. ^^(M5000) Damn, your space program's government must have a friggin huge budget to fund all that! XD
  18. Showcase your current space program here! Spacecraft lineups, mission lineups, etc. And here's mine! 19. I got the guys in my ARS-LDR Ares I home after an exploratory mission on Duna and Ike. Now KSC council is deliberating on whether to obliterate ARS Bucephalus and ARS Vanquisher, both of which are fully staffed with Kerbals who are probably starving to death already. Due to a design flaw, they can't be rescued and can't land back to Kerbin again. So what better way there is than to euthanize them?
  20. So I was curious with how you guys here in the forums name your ships and missions. Do you have any specific nomenclature patterns? Well, here's my naming scheme: Prefixes: I've yet to decide on what prefix to use for .24.2 -OW- = one way mission -ORB = orbiter vessel -HPD = heavy payload delivery system -LDR- = lander -ROV- = rover -SST- = space station -EXP- = means that craft is still in experimental stages As for the name of the ship itself, I tend to use less complicated names now. Back then I used Latin/ Greek names but I figured it would be easier to remember simple names instead. Suffixes: Mk.1,Mk.2, etc = for example, the ship had a failure and I had to make improvements to it, it would automatically be designated as Mk.1, Mk.2 and so on. So would you mind sharing yours?
  21. So I've been playing for like 2 weeks now and I really love how KSP has piqued my interest in space aeronautics, orbital mechanics and such. All that from just an alpha game! Anyways, I look forward to learning a lot from this community and hopefully I can also contribute what I can!
