  1. there are mods that add other solar systems to the game using krag's planet factory creators edition, but unfortunately, most of them are unrealistically close, some are closer than Eeloo:huh:. In KSP, there is no limit to the sun's SOI. First, there should be a SOI for the sun/boundary between sun's SOI and interstellar space(heliopause). After all the other features are added to the game, the devs could just give each new star its own SOI until there are sufficient stars to make a working galaxy. As for FTL, the FTL drive should be severely limited to avoid its overuse for traveling to other planets. For example in career, to build an FTL, you will need a TON of science points at the end of the tech tree, will require you to visit multiple planets in order to assemble such a material, and should only work once far enough away from Kerbol similar to a Bussard-Ramjet engine, except its FTL, so more like a jump drive. If not, creating wormholes at the end of the tech tree can do too.
  2. That happened to me too, though i have visual enhancements installed, so instead of black and a blue dot, it was a blue dot with the clouds on the other side of Kerbin showing up.
  3. Eeloo's surface is actually very smooth, the brown areas are actually just very shallow valleys. Vall has some nice mountain peaks but no canyons as i'm aware of. But the Mun canyons on the far side and on the north and south poles are really cool and pose a challenge to anyone landing there. You can also check out the moholes on Moho at the north and south poles. I heard they are 3-4 km deep but i'm not sure about its diameter.
  4. I agree, we're going to need 64-bit support if we are going to get more planets other than GP2 at the very least
  5. My guess is that private space agencies today will eventually develop to form factions as space travel becomes the norm and will essentially take over state/national governments. They may fight battles and wars in or around other planets to gain control of off-planet factories and mining stations. Some will give up society completely probably becoming space pirates raiding anything they can within a certain radius. That is my view of what may happen.
  6. government cannot do anything these days, its a bureaucracy. If SLS funding is cut as Charles Bolden proposed, we have no hope for missions beyond LEO unless we borrow rockets from China (possibly not Russia because of tensions in Crimea, they might cut of access to the ISS). So our only hope is from private industry like SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Inspiration Mars, and dare I say it, Mars One. There is also no specific plan for NASA to follow by, once SLS is built what will we do with it? Its too expensive for LEO operations/trips to ISS(SpaceX can do it). I'm not saying it can't get to the planets, but there is just no specific plan, and NASA hasn't even figured out how they will get to the asteroid, how they will get it into Earth/moon orbit, and where the funding will come from. In my view, SLS will become like Energia Shuttle, one or two flights, then canceled by government bureaucracy and budget cuts. Edit: Info may be a little outdated
  7. Answer to your question: there was some discussion that Gas Planet 2 will have rings however, its still in the concept stage so its probably not going to be released anytime soon. But i heard that GP2's rings are going to be based on the same code which weather will be implemented. If you want planets now, you can get Krag's Planetfactory mod which adds a second gas planet with rings and a cool system of moons(including a moon with rings:cool: ). Also, rings around a small rocky world will be very rare, they will need to be far from the planet and very spread out, otherwise the rings will disperse. But it'll still be a spectacular sight:)
  8. For me, it happens randomly but it only starts happening once I get to a certain point of my career game, so it is Possible that it could be a memory issue, but people did report having this bug in full stock. In fact, when I use docking ports from mods, I can dock and undock at ease. For example in my last career save, I used a SpaceX(dragon) mod for my Duna mission, all of the stock ports were bugged, but the Dragon docking port still worked.
  9. unfortunately, this fix does not work for me Edit: actually my whole ship except for my command module(bugged and unresponsive) disappeared when I edited the persistence file.
  10. There is already ground scatter, go to graphics in settings page and turn on ground scatter, and you will see trees(and cactus(desert), bushes/trees(other biomes) and lots of rocks:)
  11. Ive heard plenty of forum posts about extrakerbular life but not that many on the microbe idea(in fact I very much like that idea too:P). There will probably be more types of plants on Kerbin soon(hopefully entire forests), but the devs said that NPCs will not be (and probably not ever) implemented. And besides, KSP is a spaceflight simulator not a game where you chase critters around. Well, at least not until other solar systems are added(which won't be anytime soon).
  12. You need beamed power using a nuclear/fusion/antimatter reactor and electrical generator otherwise it wont work. If you are not using beamed power, you will get insanely low thrust, but an insanely high ISP
  13. Actually, if you have KSP Interstellar installed, low surface gravity + 30 atm = heaven for spaceplanes = easy takeoff. All you need to do is use thermal turbojet to carry you to edge of space and use beamed power plasma thrusters relayed from orbiting power station for orbit insertion.
  14. Perhaps, if you want to save fuel, (and money) these are the results: Mun/Minmus Colony that can transfer kerbals to and from the base. For a Laythe colony, looks like its going to be a one way trip.(at least until a very efficient propulsion system is researched such as fission/fusion)
  15. Well, both have their advantages and disadvantages: Minmus is close by and maybe has frozen water; Laythe has breathable atmosphere and (liquid water?). However, i'd choose Minmus because of its distance and low-gravity, Laythe is good for planes, however, assuming its in a position comparable to Io's distance from Jupiter, its surface would be blasted with radiation 200-300 times the lethal dose along with super-volcanoes and (laythe)quakes. The radiation hazard can be solved by creating an underwater base, but assuming your kerbals want to go out and stretch their legs, Minmus is the better option. Edit: I'm not sure if radiation is actually 200-300 times lethal dose, some of it will be deflected from Laythe's atmosphere and/or its magnetic field if it has one.
  16. Ok I was just wondering because Sentar had its own atmosphere (or did it borrow Eve's...)
  17. I feel like kethane mod is a little too simple, as all you have to do is repeat the same process over and over again: scan, mine, transform; scan, mine, transform; a little like alchemy. I feel like there should be at least a few other resources added such as hydrogen, helium, oxygen, CO2, (or their kerbal counterparts) just to name a few, but too many of them might make it hard and confusing for some people. Also, they should be located around different parts of the kerbal system. For ex: CO2 is common on Duna and Eve, hydrogen/chlorine on Jool, water ice at planetary poles and icy bodies.
  18. Also, i wonder if anyone noticed that Hercules' and Titan's atmospheres are green like Jool's? Yaeah, I was wondering if you could fix this but if you arn't able to then that's still fine with me:)
  19. I think other star systems shouldn't be a priority at least until KSP 1.0 is released, before that we will get comets, asteroids(coming in .24:sticktongue:) , Gp2, Gp3 and their moons and moonlets, (possibly some kind of an Oort Cloud?). There will be plenty to do in the Kerbol System until then. But there was talk of making Kerbol a binary system with another very dim star orbiting very far out with (perhaps its own system of planets and moons). If other star systems are going to be added, for now they should be only visible to extremely powerful space telescopes(hopefully will be added soon).
  20. yea, there should probably be types of primordial life in the oceans of Laythe, underneath Vall's icy surface and perhaps even Duna. But more plants and animals on Kerbin might be interesting as well... Also, there could be some theoretical exotic forms of life living in Jool's atmosphere that could be scooped up from a glider and brought back into orbit for science!
  21. you can also try deleting any parts that you rarely/never use, for example, i loved the boosters from kW rocketry so I kept those and deleted the squad srbs also, i deleted many fuel tanks that i don't use. As far as I know, deleting parts is the best way to reduce memory usage.
