  1. Lithobraking is a completely valid landing method, as long as it doesn't turn into lithobreaking.

  3. After several unsuccessful attempts at redirecting a class E asteroid (which was captured by my bro, the Mun) I used HyperEdit to put it on a circular orbit. I once smashed the Mun into the Kerbal Space Center. Cost doesn't matter: my spaceship must have at least twice the required amount of fuel. No exceptions. And finally: I'm better at flying vessels by hand than using MechJeb.
  4. Mun was a bro and helped me capture a class E asteroid, but it's in a highly eccentric and inclined (about 160°) orbit. I've sent up two NERVA-powered tugs (with NovaPunch's 2.5m NERVA), but I've only made minor changes to the orbit. I need about 2 km/s of ÃŽâ€v only to change its inclination, and... a lot of ÃŽâ€v to put it into a circular orbit. Structural integrity is also a problem. Even with KJR and a lot of KAS struts, the tug wobbles too much to be controlled. I've been thinking about using three radial engines, each attached with a pair of claws, but I'm not sure if it's worth the trouble. What tug configuration do you recommend for those big rocks?

  6. When it can't decide whether I've got an encounter with a planet or not, and the marker keeps flickering. I know I have an encounter, but it still drives me up the wall.

You should build this in the SPH so both sepratrons face the same way. Attach the girder (hardpoint) to the hull (or a docking port). You can stack the part with the decoupler, just make sure you stage them correctly.

  9. Walking on the Grasslands, sun shining on me, a warm breeze running through the grass. I was on my way to my girlfriend. Her home was right behind that last hill - that was the moment I was captured. The men in white. They came fast, I had nowhere to run. I was captured and locked away in a cell. I struggled, but my restraints were too strong. They took me to a facility where they locked me in a cell. In other cells were more of my kind. Old, young, men and women. They did not care. All they cared about was their "program." I was kept in the cell for days. Finally a man in white came and released me, only to lock me in an even smaller capsule. He looked at me. I yelled and screamed for my freedom, but he discarded everything I said and closed the lid. My only source of light was a small hole. I was moved to a room filled with noises. Drills, cutters, welders; the sounds of tools were deafening. I was lifted up. Men in blue came. My capsule shook and the noises became even louder as they started working on it. I covered myself. Half-deaf, I was relieved when the noises ceased. I shook again. The giant structure to which I was attached to began moving. Enormous steel doors slid open, letting in the daylight. Even the little light leaking through the small hole was blinding after days in darkness. I saw buildings larger than I could ever imagine, railways longer than I could see, and giant metal dishes scanning the sky. This vehicle of dread slowly came to a halt on top of a hill. For hours after, nothing happened. I contemplated on why I was locked in my prison. Am I being held captive as punishment for something I never did? Will I be sacrificed to a god I never worshipped? ...or do they simply like watching my suffering? I heard footsteps. Men in orange entered the structure. They did not talk, they did not look at me. What appeared to be a door opened as they got in. Mere seconds later, my metal coffin started shaking violently. I was thrashing and smashed against the walls, then at the bottom as I felt the acceleration. We were moving up at an unimaginable speed. I saw the enormous buildings shrink to little dots, then disappear behind the layer of clouds. The sky became darker and stars appeared. The acceleration stopped. I felt weightless. Weakened from the thrashing, I just floated around, bouncing off the walls. I saw my homeplanet rotating below. At that moment, I realised I was in space. We are moving again. The acceleration pushed me to the bottom of my container. The planet became smaller and was soon replaced by two new ones: a large grey one and a small blue one. One of the men opened the lid of my capsule. I threw every curse I knew at him, but he once again ignored me. It's getting hotter. The Sun became bigger and brighter by the second, and soon filled my entire field of vision. I thought I would fall into it. It's colder again. I saw the Sun disappear behind a planet. It looked similar, but it was dark green. The clouds on the surface were swirling beneath. A lightning occasionally lit up parts of it. I miss the rain. It's cold. I was freezing. We were hovering above a planet, covered with snow and rocks. The Sun's light barely reaches this forsaken place. It's been many years since I was captured. I've lost all hope of ever getting back home. I only wanted to see my girlfriend, my family, my friends one last time. I wanted to take control of my flying casket and smash it into the surface! My train of thoughts came to a halt as the rusted hinges gave in to a force. One of the men in orange opened it. Completely broken, I yelled at him, cursed at him, tried to force my way out, fruitlessly. He just stared at me, and for the first time, he talked: "The Goo feels right at home."
  10. More and more planetary systems are released for Planet Factory CE, and since space is quite limited in KSP, two are bound to intersect sooner or later. Ascension's description even states that a small change in its orbit may wipe out kerbalkind. This led me to think: what would happen if two celestial bodies were to collide? I don't think it's possible to destroy planets, maybe they would just clip through each other. Maybe they would make the game crash. It would be a sight to see nevertheless.
  11. Do you think it is possible to assign permanent random textures to discovered asteroids? Here's how I imagine it. When you click on "Track" on the map view, a random asteroid texture is assigned to that asteroid, just like random kerbal head textures. Then it is saved in a .cfg, so next time you load the game, it'll have the same texture. The problem is that asteroids aren't planets or moons but rocket parts. I don't know if it is possible to refer to different instances of the same part in the plugin, or to even modify part textures with it.

  20. The concept is simple. Mods for Kragrathea's Planet Factory have been (with a little exaggeration) flooding the mod release forum. My suggestion is to make a sub-forum only for those. Forum > Add-ons > Add-on Releases and Projects Showcase > Planet Factory systems It would give PF mods a better chance of getting noticed, and they wouldn't inevitably flood the forum.
  21. I do not think Venus would change that much. Mars lost its atmosphere because it has a weak magnetosphere, which could not stop solar wind from blowing the gases away. Earth's atmosphere is being blown off (although at a nearly unnoticeable rate), and if the magnetic field was turned off, we would suffer the same fate as the martians. Venus is almost as massive as Earth, so the magnetosphere will protect its greenhouse gases from the even weaker solar wind, inverse square law and all. It would get a bit cooler of course, but the greenhouse effect is strong enough to counter it. Mars, on the other hand, would become scorching hot. Just like the Moon's side facing the Sun, the surface would heat up without an atmosphere's protection in the intense light. What this change in the solar system would do to Earth's orbit is a different question. It could be disasterous, or it could be nothing at all.
  22. My former flagship, Asgard (designated O-201). It was assembled in orbit, and consists of the main cargo bay, two side pods, the engine ring, and the command module. Her smaller sister, Helgard (O-202), was damaged and de-orbited during orbital assembly. The command module, delivering a monopropellant storage, which unfortunately didn't fit in the fuselage. Asgard, assembled, in its designated construction orbit. After a refuel mission, the testing began. The first phase was to test the main and auxiliary propulsion: raise orbit from construction to kerbostationary orbit. Raise apoapsis with the main engine ring, then raise periapsis with the side pod engines. The second phase was to test the deceleration thrusters on both sides of the command pod, and the turning speed of the ship: drop periapsis, turn around, then drop apoapsis. The third part was a trip to the Mün. It tested all functions of the craft. Transfer burn, deceleration at Mün periapsis, get in a stable orbit. However, the Asgard has failed this test. Her engines were way too inefficient, despite being all NERVAs. The tanks do not have enough fuel for a return, not to mention her intended use as an interplanetary spacecraft. I had to send an unmanned space tug in Münar parking orbit to extract the pilots. Unfortunately, said space tug was never intended to return, therefore it had to be fitted with parachutes in space, God bless KAS. But even so, it ended up landing on its nose. From that day, Bob is required to wear a brown space suit. Hopefully, the next ship, Valhalla (O-203) will have better results with its advanced plasma propulsion unit.
  23. Struts, struts, struts. They are ugly, but not as ugly as a wobbling wing. I haven't noticed them to have a great effect on aerodynamcis either, and even if they do, it is insignificant compared to that caused by a flexible fuselage.
  24. While watching a film or series you absolutely love, the only thing that can stab you in the heart harder than seeing your favourite character die, is the funeral. I've seen a lot of them; good ones, bad ones, scenes that caused me to secrete a fluid from my eyes. My all-time favourite will be Stargate Atlantis' S3E17 "Sunday". If you haven't seen it yet, why are you even here? Go watch the series! If you have, it must have made a permanent memory, but here's a recollection in case you forgot. Oh yeah, spoilers. An Ancient device is activated, which triggers the growth of highly explosive tumors in human bodies. After removing one such growth, Carson is on his way to put it in a safe container. He makes the drop, but mere seconds before containment, the unstable gases ignite inside the tumor, causing an explosion and killing the surgeon. After Weir's speech at the memorial service, his body is sent back to Earth. A Scottish bagpiper provides music as the gate slowly dials out. Sheppard, McKay, Ronon, and three other members then proceed to carry his casket through the event horizon. Later at sunset, as Rodney is standing at the edge of Atlantis, a vision of Carson appears, and they have the chance to say their last goodbyes. Here, watch it yourself. What was the best funeral scene you have ever seen? Has any of them left you in tears, completely devastated?
  25. Procedural fairings didn't work. I resized a base to fit 3.75m parts, but it was still way too unstable, and easier to flip because of the increased front weight. Breaking it down was also impossible, it wasn't built with that in mind. I actually got the thing into orbit with brute force, little science, and lots, lots, LOTS of lag. The lifter frame had even more fuel, more control authority, and pairs of tugging engines. It wasn't nearly a solid body, so I didn't have to worry about the pendulum rocket fallacy. I launched straight upwards and didn't stop until my apoapsis was half the way to the Mun's orbit. Then I had time to slowly turn it to the east and to raise my periapsis to the target altitude of 400 kilometres. Since I was pointing towards my prograde vector at apoapsis, I was at a perfect angle to lower it once I got to the other side. The result? It took me twenty-four flipping minutes to create a "big, hunkin' weapon" and fuel tank. Pics later when I'm done detaching and tugging the boosters away.
