General small questions topic
Anquietas314 replied to Funeh's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Nah there's no need to do that. Just right click the lab and click "clean experiments". It's been a few months since I've used a lab (playing hard difficulty in 0.90, naturally it's taking me a while to get to that point), but iirc the processed experiments are just shoved in a suitable capsule, or kept in the lab if there's no room. 1. Send one lander with a science lab and a tank to refuel from 2. Land on planet leaving the lab in orbit, do some science, return to lab 3. Clean, refuel. 4. Repeat. Lots of science for a fraction of the launch costs (especially if you DO bring the science lab back) -
General small questions topic
Anquietas314 replied to Funeh's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Well, sure, but labs are a little too heavy to be sending up early game, plus quite often you won't be sending the lab back to kerbin (especially if it's an interplanetary mission >_>) -
Kerbals Gain Experience In Any Class
Anquietas314 replied to kerdansig's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Considering the amount of effort it seems to take to train kerbals (planting a flag on the mun isn't even enough for level 2), that seems perfectly fair. As long as each class is sufficiently difficult to train (perhaps a little easier than it is now) it should be fine -
General small questions topic

Almost! you need to click "Take experiments" on EVA.... then you can just store them again. For crew reports in particular you may as well just transmit them though, assuming you have a renewable power source - they give 100%. You can also do that with other experiments (goo, materials bay etc) though be warned that it will render the experiment unusable (similar to transmit), but that can be fixed with a science lab. Be aware though that you can only hold one of each specific type of experiment (e.g. "temperature scan in flight over Kerbin's shores") per capsule. Multiple temperature scans from different locations are fine though. Because Squad -
Well, in fairness the overwhelming majority of mods seem to have updated very rapidly, including the more complicated ones that were somewhat broken by the update (mechjeb, KAC, KER to name a few). Also, see the link I pasted above.

Sadly I don't think it's possible to change the mouse controls like that in KSP, though in my experience KSP's VAB camera controls are fairly standard in games. I've always found the controls in 3D editing programs (blender/autocad/...) very counter-intuitive. There is undoubtedly some tool for windows out there that will let you remap the mouse buttons though, perhaps one of those would fit your needs?

As of 0.90, Kerbals now have a specialization and experience level in that speciality. The message does actually tell you the problem; bob is a scientist, not a pilot. Also, SAS requires pilots or a probe (better than stayputnik) to function

Kerbals Gain Experience In Any Class
Anquietas314 replied to kerdansig's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Yeah, that would at least make a little more sense than the current system. How would you handle training scientists and engineers though? Considering scientists currently don't really have an activity - probes can operate science instruments - and engineers start off completely unable to fix anything. I guess you could put kerbals to work in a science lab to train them as scientists but that'd be quite a bit of work (they need something to process after all) -
Indeed for all parts.... at least all the ones I've tried (they need to be a part you can stage, obviously). EDIT: there does seem to be a small exception with solid rocket boosters. As a work-around, you can add an empty stage while in-flight and stage the booster again when the contract conditions are met; it still counts (may be a bug).
-
That's a pretty cool idea, but I think it might be difficult to come up with a decent UI for that - the current one is woefully inadequate for it, not to mention it'd be a nightmare for the QA team (more options = exponentially more bug potential). Who knows, maybe squad (or a modder) will prove me wrong

Visual surveys: EVA surface ones
Anquietas314 replied to 255's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Technically you can do them with rockets, it's just hard to do the EVA report ones without an accurate landing prediction... assuming you don't like walking a few km. -
Problem with a contract
Anquietas314 replied to Curunur's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Yup, it was changed to solve that exact problem (I remember reading one of Arsonide's posts somewhere.... it may have been in the now-defunct fine print thread) -
Oh I dunno... I once got a contract in 0.25 for testing the huge kerbodyne engine in a suborbital trajectory...... for 400,000 funds. I couldn't get that one done fast enough lol. There was also an in flight variant of it I got earlier that paid about 150k that I figured was a little too much hassle to be worth it. psst... you can right click it and click "run test" if you activated it before the conditions were met... regardless of what it says in the contract Yeah I'd have to agree with this. Tbh, I'd be happy if the constraints on the in-flight ones were a lot more reasonable (RT-10 at 20-22km... really? sure it's possible to get it there cheaply, but still) and the "test ___ landed at kerbin" ones actually paid more than the part cost! (especially for decouplers that tend to go flying and smash on the ground.... the science was worth it though )

Visual surveys: EVA surface ones
Anquietas314 replied to 255's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
Congrats You don't actually need to upgrade the runway, though admittedly the tier 1 version is a little too bumpy for my liking (haven't had an "incident" yet with it though). Yeah those missions take a good long while, but you can always watch youtube or come on the forums or whatever while you're flying the however many hundred km to the target It might be worth your while to learn to build spaceplanes though - they're typically more expensive to launch, but if you can get them safely back to the runway then you only pay for anything left in orbit and the fuel (negligible... under "normal" circumstances). I'd avoid the mk3 parts for now though, at least for something that's going to be carrying a payload to orbit; they're a bit too heavy to get off the ground without a lot of engines (my not-completely-awful design took a whopping 16 turbojets just to survive takeoff... it did handle quite nicely after that though ) -
Game Deleting Missions
Anquietas314 replied to whiterafter's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
If you actually read the OP, the problem is *ships* disappearing, not contracts... as for the problem, post a bug report in support with saves/logs etc (there's a bug reporting guide in each of the relevant forums). In the meantime I guess liberal quicksave use/backup is probably your best bet :/ -
More impossible missions.
Anquietas314 replied to Rasip's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
The airborne ones can be done fairly easily with rockets - it takes some practice, but it's certainly doable. Later on they do get rarer, but they also tend to be much bigger missions. Try burning through a few of your other contracts, one might show up. (I just finished an hour-long trip to the south-east, then the north pole, then back to KSC... ) -
Kerbals Gain Experience In Any Class
Anquietas314 replied to kerdansig's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Eh, technically your suggestion was a little different and covered a few different things. This seems to be more along the lines of each kerbal has 3 separate experience bars - one for each class - that can all get to level 5.... -
Kerbal abilities and XP
Anquietas314 replied to harlikwin's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
You should of course bear in mind this is only the first iteration of kerbal experience, plus going by the dev blogs they had a veritable mountain of stuff to do for this release besides that. No doubt 0.91 will bring improvements -
More landing gear
Anquietas314 replied to LtHeckard's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Bigger landing gears were planned for 0.90 but were pulled shortly before release. We should see them either in 0.91 or a patch for 0.90, presumably when squad are done with their holiday (source: the various forum threads/articles/... about 0.90's features) EDIT: ninja'd (also I may have had the page open for like 10 mins before posting >_>) -
More impossible missions.
Anquietas314 replied to Rasip's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
It's probably worth posting your save file either here or in the appropriate support forums. Clearly something's gone pretty far wrong with your career mode :/ Check the bug report guidelines and self-help bit though, they're stickied at the top of those forums. Of course, it's still perfectly possible for you to do some of those those contracts, as I mentioned earlier. The satellite ones are highly profitable - I've gotten my satellite launcher down to 7,500 funds, although I imagine someone's done it cheaper. Hehe... and don't I know it. The StageRecovery mod helps a lot though, but some might consider it cheating -
Kerbal abilities and XP
Anquietas314 replied to harlikwin's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Well, generally you bring the kerbals back and just have probes transmit (I do anyway)... so that's sortof covered already. Then you've got crew reports, EVA reports, surface samples... These are already in the game as of 0.90
