  1. You can actually get a ticket for running a green light, generally for anticipating a green and either cruising through without stopping or trying to jump the light, as if drag racing. The thing is that you have to ensure cross traffic has in fact stopped before proceeding on a green light, or you could be ticketed.
  2. Good article. In the comments section of that article, there's a link to an even better article: http://www.parabolicarc.com/2016/12/13/year-wait-nasa-report-falcon-9-failure-2015/ Actually, both failures were related to the helium system, but the blame for the first failure was pinned on a strut securing the helium COPV. NASA still isn't 100% sure that that really was the cause (see above linked article), especially after the second failure. Remember, these things are sitting in LOx that is near freezing, instead of near boiling, which is a new thing. Does anyone recall if the CRS-7 was using super-chilled propellants?
  3. I did that too. Mom took us all out of school to avoid the crowds.
  4. When my wife gives me that look I tell her to make her own tea (and keep playing KSP)
  5. They just need to find some CorningWare big enough to put their warheads in. Or the original recipe for Pyroceram Edit: PyroCeram CorningWare link Looks they just need to ask Corning to custom-make a huge baking dish for a, um, 5,000lb turkey. Yeah, that's it, yeah...
  6. Godspeed, John Glenn. May your spirit rest among the stars
  7. And a Saturn V up the backside, nice! I could see that dress appearing on The Big Bang Theory
  8. "Arm of Kod" - lifting the Predator up
  9. Took this last night at Cultus Lake, BC
  10. A son named Titan? Hmmm... As for a human sounding aerospace name, how about daughter Deevee? But I suppose people may take that as short for devious or deviant. Or a name like David Victor Seversky, Deevee for short. Theodore William Radisson, aka TWR, or T-Dub. Maybe Teedubber? Okay I'll stop now.
  11. Oops, wrong T-800. But just as unaffected by biohazards.
  12. The system was designed to operate within certain parameters. When the system went outside the parameters due to improper loading, the helium tank burst. Ergo, load the system properly.
  13. This article offers a little more info on the anomaly. Glad to see that they're getting back to launching, if the FAA approves.
  14. Movember is drawing to a close, so let's see what kind of mo's have been growing! Here's mine: Of course, If you don't want to show your face, you can always fire up paint and crop yo' mo' onto Jebs face: Like so: Here's a blank of Jeb's face if ayone needs one... Let's see those mo's!
  15. Equating potential energy and kinetic energy gives mgh=0.5*mv2 Solving for h gives h = (v2) / 2*9.8 Plugging in 518 km/s yields a max height if fired straight up (ignoring drag) of 13,690,000 km, almost 3 orders of magnitude more. So yeah, I'd guess they must be referring to the targeting system.
