  1. Thats a mod though? I don't want anything too complicate - although it seems like its what I'm asking!! TAC Life-support doesn't need to integrate with another mod to get their tanks working why do I?
  2. Yes thats right I can. So say I have water, and iron ore, and Kethane and a normal fuel tank all on my ship. How do I tell them apart? Say I want to add oxygen tank or plasma, or anti-matter? This is what I'm after - I want several different tanks with several different coloured trim so that you can add these tanks to your ship and tell them apart!
  3. really? Okay here goes: I need tanks. Simple normal tanks. I need them the same size as FL-T800 Fuel Tank, Rockomax X200-32 Fuel Tank, Rockomax Jumbo-64 Fuel Tank and the Rockomax X200-8 Fuel Tank. The same dimensions. I may need different sizes later but thats what I need now. I need them with multiple colours along the top and bottom like so: and I want the texture to be like: or similar (smaller tiles than those maybe). Or smooth like this: I want people to help me provide a selection of these tanks with various different styles so people can choose which ones they would like to use. I really really hope that helps!

I like the tiling on this but they are a bit too big: http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/30803-WIP-FusTek-inspired-station-module-variants?p=493474&viewfull=1#post493474 would you be able to make the parts with the same dimensions as the stock parts I listed above, with smaller tiling and a band along the top and bottom with the different colours along the same lines as the screenshots I posted on my ones?
  7. Thanks let me know how you get on. I've never used TAC but looking at it is it a closed system? I want to be able to create a kethane plus for it and plug in things like water mining and a biodome type converter which will convert waste in to food and co2 in to o2 but if its a closed system then theres no point in having miners etc to get new resources. Or I can tweak it so that you'll loose a little in the conversions and have to 'top it up' with fresh resources from outside. I currently have a mining outpost on minmus which would be awesome with TAC where the crew have to go out and mine some water every now and then to top up their water supply and I'm constructing a interplanetary mining vessel and it would be cool to have them have to stop off at different planets to replenish their supplies!! I'll change the density values when a get a chance - theres no reason why mine was .002 its only because i just copied the values from kethane just to get it working. Tweaking comes later
  8. ah. I'm one of those 'with some PHP experience, but a dearth of real talent' lol. I also tie it in with mysql. I can create the site using these but I don't want to go through all the work and for my site to suddenly be ditched in favour of someone elses - I will try and fulfil everyones desires from this thread as much as possible - theres a few ideas running in my head as a result of these and every step of the way I would request input from everyone on this thread. I think you're right Majiir from your response to Spaceport2 - I think Squad should just concentrate on making an awesome game that much more better - they have enough on their plate and should just let spaceport and spaceport2 die - we are the modders we know what we want in a mod repository - lets start building this thing. I have my own server with unlimited space and bandwidth but I'm not 100% sure what unlimited means in this context (I've been screwed over before with my ISP saying they have unlimited bandwidth then throttle my account when I stream too much - this was before they had to put their 'fair usage' terms in the small print). I'll make it if you guys come?
  9. not at the same time no. What I'm looking to do is to provide say a tank with a red stripe along its top and bottom like the ones in my first post. And you could add that to a mod as a iron ore tank or another mod as waste water or another mod as vampire blood - they are just going to be basic tanks with coloured strips to be used for whatever.
  10. My fuel depot in low kerbin orbit. Its got auto-fuel transfer set up so as soon as I dock it starts draining equal amounts of fuel from all the tanks inc monoprop. I sent it up with empty tanks and then filled them up from a kethane mine on minmus.
  11. I have a large fuel depot in LKO and a kethane mining operation on minmus. Whenever a launch a mission to anywhere - duna, moho etc I bring up the parts and the fuel tanks empty and then construct the ship in orbit or docked with the fuel depot - fuel up and then leave. It saves having to lift the parts off of kerbin along with the fuel. If it seems like a hassle then you could argue that it would be easier to edit the persistant file and add the fuel in yourself. I'm trying to be more realistic - if we ever IRL get a permanent presence in space we will need to not have to rely on Earth to bring the supplies up - if we can mine H3 from the moon, water & iron from asteroid etc that would be more cost effective in the long run. Same with kerbal - if I can supply resources without having to ship it from kerbin then all the better. Long term I'm thinking of exploring Laythe - if I need more fuel for the excursions it'll be better to source it more locally than to lift it from kerbin and then take the year or so long route of shipping it out to the jool system. If I can manufacture it from one of the moons then all the better. Medium planes is a mining operation on ike - I already have the equipment on-route - any future missions will only need the Delta-v to get to ike and the fuel needed to land and take off from duna will be supplied by the mining operation.   12. you missed out the 3rd 3. why aren't people using this Nexus. I've seen people slatting Nexus because of A, B, C. and others saying they love it because of A, C, D. and others saying they never heard of it - me included. What would an extra mod site accomplish that Nexus couldn't?
  13. I built a fuel station with 12 senior docking ports (3x4 radially) and then sent up 4 empty tanks in 3 trips - took an age. Then I sent an kethane miner, converter and fuel transporter and got the fuel needed from minmus - more work? probably, more hours of gameplay? most definitely, more fun? totally. I'll do some screenshots when I get home.
  14. now theres a thought - detachable surface mounts - we could then bring up the box and the mount then move it over to the ship. I actually forgot to bring some boxes with me so it might be handy to do this. A bit of ModuleManager coding should do the trick. I'll post it when I get a chance at home.

Kethane is back open btw fully legal this time - http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/71140-WIP-KSP-0-23-Kethane-Plus-v0-2 I'm looking in to just creating some part files rather than having to use a mod to retexture already existing parts - I need to be able to turn a tank in to a water tank and add it to the parts list, or an iron ore tank or an kethane tank etc etc. I do love the texture switcher textures though!
  16. I don't understand the issue here at all. How do you get hold of peoples designs in the first place?? If they post a screenshot saying hey look at my cool shuttle/spacestation/ssto then they are sharing the image with everyone publicly - of course they expect people to try and copy it - I post screenshots knowing full well and actually encourage people to take bits that they liked and incorporate them in to their own design - i would be honoured if someone did that and even say - I liked psypers suchnsuch so much i added it to my spacestation; look! a lot of my designs come from scott manley - I copied the hanger system on his spacestation in his reusable space program tutorial and his mun to station lifters too. He created that tutorial for the specific point of helping novices with ksp - I think he pretty much expects people to copy some of his plans in getting to space - I have since made improvements on the designs since which are slowly upgrading the older kit. If you upload a craft file then all bets are off - what is the point of uploading a craft file if you don't want people to use it - its not like they can open the code and see the ship in their head matrix style!! You can't exactly tell them - you can load this in to your VAB/SPH but you can't use it. If you don't want people using your designs then don't screenshot, don't youtube it and certainly don't post the craft file!

  20. hmmmm I could do this :/ I'm not big major web developer but I have built similar web based systems before and I can't see anything here which is outside of my skills set - its just creating a multi relational database and some file management. The stars/download stats/version tracking is pretty simple to do. Mod account creation - easy. security of such a system might be a bit of fun but doable. The style/graphics will be adequate (I'm not big in the design front) but I'm sure a design-a-logo competition would soon sort that out Now one question comes to mind. If we do this. If we get this up and running. How would Squad feel about this? If this gets more views than spaceport and we are hosting say retextured squad parts or mods which of course affect a Squad game how do we stand legally?
  21. I'm thinking of something like gloss paint with different coloured trim (a bit like the examples at the top) where the trim looks like its plastic stickers maybe. I've seen a few that had tiling along the lines of the kethane tanks. I know what I don't like though - the stock Oscar-B and rockomax x200-32 / x200-8 fuel tanks - the steel look with the bolts makes it look unfinished and rough. At the end of the day these tanks are going to be used for anything from liquid water, liquid o2/c02, iron, iron ore, deuterium etc etc. I did see some habitation modules which had some tiles on them but I can't seem to find them now - that looked kinda cool. Perhaps if you do a few mock ups or if you have some parts with textures already on I can give you a better idea of what I'm looking for. But at the end of the day it would be ideal if we have a selection of textures anyway to give the customers more choice

I first started this add-on because of two things. 1) I wanted to make kethane a bit more complex and make the dual mix fuel (LiquidFuel & Oxidizer) to require two resources to make hence water to make oxidizer. also 2) I love the idea of building a base on duna that requires resources to provide life support - so it needs to provide water for kerbals and plants and o2 converter in the form of a hydroponics and a recyc system for waste and co2 etc. I'm interested in installing TAC LifeSupport but have an open system where you need to provide a small amount of resources for the crew to survive. The idea of having a group of tanks outside the base for water, waste, o2, co2 etc a group of hydroponics and a miner ship that flies off mines some water on another part of the planet or even ike and brings it back to the colony to resupply.
  23. Thank you. Unfortunately I was limited in the way that the kethane mod generates the deposits. I spent a good several hours tweaking the settings to try and get this right. Ideally I wanted 100% coverage of lots of little pockets 3-5 hex in size so you could exhaust one and move to one near by. I also wanted to be able to specify areas such as the ice caps of duna or the creaters of mun. Now having to convert brine into water now there's a thought....
