  1. Yes, it's all right if you don't use other Kethane parts! - - - Updated - - - Launches: 3 (main ship, drive unit and fuel). Crew storage: Cupola, Hitchhiker container and Mobile Lab. Additional stuff: amphibious plane for Laythe, rover for Tylo. Not very precise though. "Misc" is for aerobrake tuning without nodes etc. Note on MJ's delta-V panel visible in some screenshots: it's broken (stops updating data frequently and treats main ship staging incorrectly). Please ignore it. I really liked your double plane solution for Laythe, and your Tylo rover was epic too! And that's a lot of science points! Well done! ps: sorry for the slow review time! - - - Updated - - - Hi! Nice grand tour! Yeah, the upfront refueling tank could be on the verge of the rules but otherwise every Grand Tour is a long and hard mission what I really appreciate, so Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 1 with a GRAND TOUR! - - - Updated - - - Xannari Ferrows: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 2! HA! It was not in the original rules that the Kerbals have to sit in a capsule for the interplanetary travel, I guess you were the first one to exploit this! Especially with "old" rocket parts only, I really liked that! (But from now the rules says they need to be in a Capsule!) Really nice lander solution, and this way you had PLENTY of dV too for your crazy maneuvers, and for that suicide free-falling landing at Tylo, haha! Nice one, thank you for participating! - - - Updated - - - missions still under review: astrobond Jouni HANNIBALLA
  2. Hey, if there's no heavy clipping then it's all right. Some "touching" is not a problem. On the front the science pack goes into a body part which is not a tank/engine/etc. so it can be clipped.
  3. Hi guys, hehe, I was waiting for this question since I made this challenge, because a pod was requested for interplanetary journey only for the low-mass category! And no, crew report is not necessary for Jeb Level. So if somebody would have just sent out 5 kerbals on seats and with the science packages then that would have qualified too! Hehe. But I would have allowed this only until the orange tanks were the biggest one... so now it's not allowed. Rules are updated!
  4. Hey guys, I know there are still some mission from the last two weeks waiting for review but I'm overwhelmed with real-life tasks. But I'm still engaged with this challenge and KSP completely. Do you have any idea how is it possible to make it quicker? Maybe I should just quickly run through the pictures/video and if it seems all right I accept it, and maybe review it later normally? Or some of you could check them if it complies the rules, there's no cheating, and collecting the fun/interesting information for the Hall of Fame? But that could flood the topic too. Or private messages? Or any of these would just make it harder and longer for me? Anyway, I will review every mission sooner or later, that's for sure! Good luck with the Pol glitch exploring, I hope there's a good solution for that!
  5. Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge within the Low-Mass category! Nice one! Those clouds look beautiful! I really loved how you solved the Laythe landing, with the ion part pulling off the pod and jettisoning the jet. Very unique solution! That was strange that you went outside of Tylo and started your landings from there, fuel-wise I would have dropped the pod between Vall and Tylo, but I guess that didn't make too much xenon fuel mass difference. Nice landing at Tylo too, with the "usual" ion lander rescue at the end. The ion lander with the boom balancing Jeb is an other unique engineering solution. What was your TWR for Vall? Everything else looked good too, nice one, welcome in the highly valued Low Mass club! - - - Updated - - - Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 2! Wow, why did you used only orange tanks and mainsails for the launch? Back to the old times? I really loved your (huge) Tylo lander with the rover on top, using it as the last stage and going directly to Laythe, landing there with parachutes, and roving around while the main ship lands there too. Funny and unique! And you had some crazy orbits sometimes! Nice parachutes decoupling on Laythe and funny ladder solution to get them back into the ship. Then for the rest it becomes a staged one-ship only mission which is a really nice planning in terms of making the mission easier and quicker. I also notice there were no docking in space, in fact the rendezvous on Laythe surface was the only one "meeting" of mission parts, so that's a pretty amazing thing! Well done, thank you for participating!! - - - Updated - - - OMG, that will be huge! I mean, that's already huge!!! And looks incredible too. I'm very excited about how it will unfold! I didn't have time yet to check this video but did now. Awesome. Keep us updated sometimes!! And it will definitely have a room in the Hall of Fame! Maybe only one thing for the videos: 25 mins can be too long for most of the people. I suggest you to make short teasers (less 1 mins) before them with the main stuff introduced for those with less time! - - - Updated - - - Now the Modular Rocket Systems and the SpaceY mods are permitted!
  6. Yeah, it's all right! This was the first mission where I was thinking about to ask for the craft file for the Tylo landing but double checking it I realized that it is possible but needs some very cool piloting and action groups to toggle different engines. Awesome!
  7. Congratulations, you have finished the Jool-5 Challenge on Level 1! Yeah, forgetting a ladder can ruin your mission but you were lucky that you were able to get back into the pod from the legs with the help of the jetpack. But I had to build your lander to test if it was really possible. And it was, so nice save of the mission. Your additional engines for Tylo had a unique solution with that structure which stayed on the top of your lander, that looks funny but I guess it had a nearly zero mass, so it's all right like that. And yeah, at Tylo, going from an eccentric orbit to a low orbit can cost about 900 m/s so going down and back can be 1800 m/s, something what many people does not consider... Nice stock solution, thank you for participating, and I'm sorry about the long delay before reviewing this mission! - - - Updated - - - Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 3! Haha, your aircraft-carrier ship looks pretty cool! Wow, I see you wanted to avoid accidental stage collision during decoupling, really impressive solution! And I really appreciate that you documented all the launches really well. I really enjoyed your hidroplane solution for Laythe, I guess there was no spaceplane landing on the water yet in the history of Jool-5! For Vall, I'd like to have seen the last moment before touchdown to show the people how it is possible (turning in the last moment, or just drop it very slowly). But I know it's possible. But after Vall landing you end up a lower orbit with inclination and with xenon only I would like to see how you got back to the mothership. And I also have to see how you get back from Bop because I know you had some ion but for a big ship they don't give you too much dV. And as I see you let your mothership in Vall orbit and the lander was in a different orbit so that might needed a lot of deltaV... by the way if you go out into a Jool orbit between Vall and Tylo then you can redock to the main ship much easily, without all the fuss with the orbits and inclinations. Your landing on Tylo with the plane is incredible! Nice one, and I love your refueling rover idea very much too! This is something new, again. Cool unique ship design, thank you for participating! And sorry for the slow review!
  8. That's a good question! You have to use a pod for the interplanetary journeys only. And by the rule "you can use any crazy idea for the landings" and I meant for the moon landings but you can use a seat for landing on Kerbin too!
  9. Hey, I'm back! Eve has biomes in 0.90 so I have new motivation to complete my huge surface explorer mission! YEEHAAAH!!!
  10. Is this a collection of parts from other mods, or a new one? I'm sorry I don't have time to check it in-depth right now but if it doesn't have an advantage over the stock then it may be good. But the problem with allowing a lot of mods is that I have to know all of them very well to check if the mission really happened as it is without any cheating and there's already a lot of mods allowed. Maybe I should do a new level which is free for all the mods but doesn't give you the JOOL-5 Badge? But mining and interstellar crazinesses adds a new gameplay style or makes it very easy while other mods are almost just visual, so how should I rate the mods? What do you think guys? - - - Updated - - - I'm open to reconsider this mod because I liked it when I tried it but I was afraid it can give too much advantage over the stock with some of its solution... and also makes it harder to review missions with engines from this mod. What do you think? I'm also considering this: SpaceY - - - Updated - - - Happy New Year to all the brave Kerbonauts all over the World! I'm very happy with the success of the JOOL-5 Challenge and I'm glad it made my initial idea come to life. When I made the challenge there was no information about such a mission on the internet, the orange tank was the biggest element we could use, the ion was 1/4 weaker (almost useless) and the ships were more wobbly and broke apart more easily, so it was a really heroic one. Nowadays it's still hard and needs a lot of good planning but has become manageable. I wanted the JOOL-5 Badge to be a real precious one, only for the best. What do you think about this? Is it still a top challenge? What did you like and what should we change in the future? Mods, game styles, new levels or sub-challenges? Let me know your thoughts! Cheers, Ziv P.S.: I refined the rules for the part-clipping. Cmdr.Arn1e, Red Iron Crown: thank you guys for answering on questions while I was away, I really appreciate it! Kobymaru: if the whole mission looks good and possible then I can get over some missing data or picture, if I'm sure those parts can be done and doesn't consist some very hard thing to achieve. And I will review these missions soon (sorry for the delay!): Krovster Batz_10K DBownman Lou redsh
  11. Hey Guys, I'm going for a two weeks vacation but I'LL BE BACK IN 21TH OF DECEMBER, so don't worry, I'll answer and review everything then! See you!
  12. Thunderous Echo: Congratulation, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Jebediah's Level + a Grand Tour! Really nice Grand Tour! I loved that your videos have a good pace and some good effects and parallel cuts. That's fun that you landed on Kerbin and planted a flag there too!!! :D The tour was well planned with some minimalistic solution. I liked that you used nukes for Tylo, that's a rare but viable solution. I also liked your ion rover at Laythe! You brought five Experimental Package and docked it with the lander every time wich is very rare since the Lab. More work, more appreciation! And you landed them back to Kerbin surface as needed, nice job. Well done, awesome Grand Tour!
  13. If you went for Jebediah's level then you definitely have to land the five science package OR the Lab onto the surface, that's mandatory to gain Jebediah's Level. And rule 8: 8. All the Kerbals have to arrive back to Kerbin surface at the end, happy and alive. So you have to land them. In rare cases, when the mission had more interesting things than what the basic rules had requested or there were some special nice solution then I can get over the fact if the Kerbals don't land on their own when returning but with some kind of help, or if they stay in an orbital station. So, the key thing is if you just want to skip that part of the mission or you have better, more complex or other unique solutions (which needs some more work than the basic mission). If the latter then you are welcome and I will accept it!
  14. RealChute makes the mission easier but I guess it's a good addition to the stock. I never used it so please let me know if they are cheaty in any way! Also please consider that elegant solutions are more appreciated than brute force!
  15. The point is that the Kerbals have to be on the surface of every moon with their feet. If you can go back into the lander without a ladder then it'd be okay too, if you show me how you did it.
  16. Hey, okay, that's absolutely convincing! I don't have much time know but will accept your mission soon! Hm, I don't like badge idea without the text, sorry!
  17. EdwardKu: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 1! I like how you solved the wobbling problem, and your docking port adapter is a nice one too! I guess without any control you had to be very careful not to spin it! I guess your Laythe plane was not well balanced if you could land only at high speed. I really liked that your Tylo lander was landing "during" an asparagus staging. Yeah, if the Tylo lander last stage would have legs it could have been the lander for the remaining moons, good notice! Good job with the other landings and the return too. Thank you for participating!
  18. Hey! Cmdr.Arn1e's answers were right here. Big expeditions and more stuff are always welcomed here, only important things are: - no cheating so no hyperedit, no magical refuelings, no bad part-clipping especially through tanks or engines (natural small parts can have some clipping, the maximum acceptable one may be a nuclear generator laid half into the side of a tank), no prohibited mods or cheating in any other means - follow the rules, so one big ship carries all the crew and landers to Jool and do the ships/crew as it is needed for the given level and cannot be changed during the mission - one refueling mission can be sent from Kerbin if your mission accidentally runs out of fuel. Changing fuel distribution between ships/landers during your mission is absolutely allowed. - you can send more additional stuff, landers, rovers, stations, anything, and the JOOL-5 crew can interact with them at any level but they have to do their JOOL-5 mission on their own. So for example the JOOL-5 crew can meet other crew in space or on surface, use their rover and facilities on the surface, but cannot use their landers and ships or refuel from them. And they have to go back to Kerbin and land together. - Also when presenting the mission please make always clear which are the JOOL-5 vehicles and crew.
  19. Really nice grand tour! I loved that your videos have a good pace and some good effects and parallel cuts. For the JOOL-5, on video Phase 4 at 1:35 when you go into low Tylo orbit you have less than 50% fuel with the tug all together. The lander has 720 fuel, the tug 360, so you have less than 540 fuel (if the fuel level was indicated for the lander only then it's less than 360). But when you undock your lander fuel is at 100% which means 720 fuel, which is more than what you had before... how is it possible?
  20. Laie, that rover looks pretty cool!! My Eve Rocks Expedition finally reached the launch state - the Eve surface-to-orbit Return vehicle with some structure is already in Kerbin Orbit. I will add some base buildings to it but realized that my command module, plane and rover would be too much on part count so I can't send them to Eve as one huge ship. I was designing my stuff to be low on part counts but it become too much anyway. But anyway, the Return Vehicle will automatically land (no Kerbals yet) on Eve with the base at the same time. The base buildings have parachutes but the Return Vehicle will do a powered landing next to a pond because somebody said parachutes are too weak for it (I guess I heard that engineer behind me whispering about some Jebediah's Level or something, I don't know what they are talking about)... And then I will send the crew (3 Kerbals) after the automated first one, with a plane and a rover. They will inhabit the base and use the plane and the rover to make an extensive expedition on the surface. There are some classified engineering solution going on so no pictures yet.
  21. PLAD: Congratulations, you have finished the JOOL-5 Challenge on Level 1! Wow, that's really cool that you very highly optimized your ship and flight for the lowest deltaV spendings with a lot of flybys, really impressive! Some of your flyby solutions very really crazy! I also liked how you solved the problem that Jet's can have decoupler on their bottom. That's interesting that you had a staged lander for Vall, that's rare there, but absolutely understandable with your highly optimized design. The Tylo landing was all right, nice use of those little engines. That was brave that you went for Bop and Pol only with the carrier-tug with not much fuel left in it, but you not just managed it but went home with that amount of fuel too!! Awesome. The Jool escape gravity slingshot with Laythe and Tylo was a really good example about how to leave Jool for cheap. Good job, thank you for participating!
  22. Hey, I'm sorry but I can't accept your entry if I can't check your fuel/deltaV properly during the mission.
