What you say there..., yep, you found a loophole! the main goal is that it has to be a plane speed record at sealevel, vtol assisted landings may be some kind of avoiding method of having a plane that can actualy glide, on the other hand, the only engine I know that could help that, is the B9 VTOL engine, wich can be useful during flight. With the others, you dont want the weight just for the landing, it would be useless. So we have this problem, I'm not sure what to say, please, say what you think and after hearing some of you ill make a choice!, At the moment, im more at the side of no vtol assistance, it makes the challenge harder About the balistic or not balistic stuff, always though this challenge would become quite ballistic, but the rules say: atmospheric engine, atleast 2 wings, and landing horizontaly (rewrote some of the rules to be clearer), that said, if you follow all these rules, you could make a pretty ballistic thing that is still a plane. You cant reach mach 3 without a ballistic plane in fact!

No no, Sevant I think using SAS modules is a brilliant idea, and your explanation is brilliant aswell. The diference is about landing.., if you can land verticaly, its a lot easier.., im willing to allow vertical take off, just as a bonus that ill note in the leaderboard, and even if it can land back verticaly, you have to do it horizontaly. I don't know if im making any sense ^^

Nice one sevant, ill update it tonight. I like the idea of no control surfaces, and a lot of reaction wheels, it maybe too much of a twist, but meanwhile you have, atleast, a pair of wings, even if they are small, I think its fine! Pds314, I think that would be an atmospheric rocket, give it a pair of wings, and the capabilities of landing back at the runway, and its ok! (I guess!) Now that I thinkg about it, the VTOL thing is dangerous, one of the main challenges here is to land it back, if you can do it verticaly, it's a lot easier!, tell me what do you think, so we can decide what to do. Maybe another leaderboard for VTOL planes, I dont know!...

I present you, the new RAPIER engine SSTO marvel, the not-so-efficient ARROWLANCE mk1!!!!!!, featuring a new concept of cockpit location, you are able to see your plane while in IVA, also, able to perform 1st person docking with ease. It also has a little container in the front of the plane, where you can hold your lunch for the trip! a new set of pictures, still testing this model, I dont think ill be able to leave atmosphere , other stuff, its doable! changed my jets for sabre and fuel consumption raised, also, I have more power than i need. Tryed to get into orbit but not enough fuel..., had to land in the sea, saved the kerbals!!!!!! also, made a sweet version with firespitter engines, its really good

thank you! alrdy changed those engines with sabre S, has a lot of raw power, able to lift twice his weight!, but not enough fuel for almost anything..., need to work on that

impresive I'm trying to make a very nice VTOL for this challenge, here are some pictures..., I may call it the BATVTOL. I made a few test flights, but I'll need to change those jet engines for sabre o rrapier ones, so I can go to the moon too More of it soon!, I'm aiming for design too, and trying to get kerbals as confortable as possible in their quests

Thank you all First of all, I though about it being wider than longer, but the plane is not pointed sideway, following the wings, it gets 90º of prograde, and tryes to stay that way, having the most larger surface pointing prograde. It's hard to explain. WHen i have the time, ill test some changes and post them back, thanks again for your time EDIT: cockpit is just the stock one, the only change is the interior

So this is something that really annoys me, because I dont know why its happening! I have this SSTO, capable of going to orbit and back 4 times without refueling, it has COM before COL, and is that way even with empty tanks. In fact, when I reenter atmosphere, I use to get all the fuel in the front tank, so my plane goes straightforward. But it's not happening, it wants to turn and gets stuck at a very unlikely aerodynamic way, 90º of prograde!!. Also, I think it's suffering a really heave mach effect, I cant pitch above mach 1. You can see everything in this video, it's a little boring, but its just 4mins long. No music atm, maybe ill add some youtube random music! I would like to hear from you guys, if you know what is happening, and WHY!!!, I guess it has something to do with Ferram Aerospace Research, but im not sure... Thanks in advance for your time! (also, I hope it's in the right subforum!, was thinking about addon request and support, but people there were just asking for different stuff)

I managed to get 37.1G without the plane exploding. According to the Steam Gauges HUD it was way more, but anyway, F3 says 37.1G. Here's the video for the proofs!, It's a bit long (6mins), but didnt have time to edit it. It has all the attemps in one flight. 5:27 is the F3 screen showing 37.1G!! -

I managed to get lots of Gs (30.7G) with my acrobatic jet on my first flight. Ill try again and see where can i go! Ill make a video soon, hopefully improving my current record
