totm june 2018 Work-in-Progress [WIP] Design Thread

Did somebody say "fairings"??? I completely forgot, I had fairing subassemblies I worked on. Here is a zip file, containing fairings for 2.5 AND 3.75 diameters. Each comes in three lengths, and each consists of 2 parts. Use double symmetry. -The fairings are topless, just put any rocket cone on top of what you have inside. -Reinforce the fairings by attaching a strut on top of each one that connects to the uppermost part of the ship(inside). -They require wings on the bottom of your rocket, like on my Apollo, in order to maintain control. That's about it :/ -

Took care of the gaps, re-shaped the wings a lil bit, added struts, fueled up... ready for some stability tests! OH DEAR OH DEAR OH DEAR OH DEAR ♥ u ♥ She flies!!! Activate ALL engines! Full speed ahead!!! (*cough* *Ahumm* of-course she flies... I knew all along she will...) But will it land? that is the question. I think she will do just fine. B^) Just need to properly distribute control surfaces, as the way I added them concentrated in one spot causes the whole thing wiggle like a sausage! And a few more couples of struts between wings and fuel tanks - will make the ship solid. Some interior shots: My way of strutting, before the update and after: This ship should surpass the Astroliner V not just by aesthetics! The Astroliner V was not a heavy lifter, that 20 ton cargo was pushing her to the limits... Therefore the new plane has a couple more jet motors. I also want to make her Duna-compatible, which is why she also has a couple more atomic motors- to ensure liftoff. Will also put a little aerospike on her belly, to ensure safe (as much as possible) landing. What's left to do is add more fuel and some sasses. 4-6 brown ones will do the trick. -

Hahahaha xD my work is away from home, I go away for a week or more at a time and I have the most lousy reception possible there! right now I can barely even view pictures... luckily I got all the hardware needed for KSPing with me }:^3 hehehe You're imagining stuff... my lander, is exactly the one part I wasn't applying aesthetics to. It was damn complicated, making it both 2-staged and with a rover. I took the cheesy shortcut of putting the rover underneath x-D Also, it turns out that using these 4 tiny engines on it, was a very clever move! it's both efficient AND responsive! for instance, if it approaches another vessel at ~100m/s, it has no problem stopping quickly. I'm not fully satisfied with it's look, but I'm absolutely satisfied with it's handling! -

Hey Mac, your lander is coming along nicely As for me... Just you wait until I figure out an acceptable way of blocking these horrid little gaps... The rest should be a piece of cake }:^3 -
Stock ssto with 50 ton payload or greater?

so... THIS is the plane you once mentioned to me! I've been searching through all of your posts and couldn't find it... xD This is very aesthetic! -
TYLO SSTO - To Tylo and Back in an SSTO (video)
Overfloater replied to Andrew Hansen's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Very nice! I once saw this kind of craft, by Mesklin, also a SSTO that carries a tiny lander with an atomic motor that lands on Tylo and returns to it. I'm very sorry I can't watch your videos yet, as I'm in the exact middle of nowhere for the next couple of weeks... I can barely even view pictures x^D It always excites me to see interplanetary SSTO's, especially on challenging missions of that sort! -
Show off your Apollo Replicas (.23.5)
Overfloater replied to Cmdr. Arn1e's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Thanks Arn1e. It did need some lifter re-configurations... And you're right, neither of the new engines is good enough for the whole job... I pretty much found that out x^D But now I have perfected my b̶o̶w̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶p̶i̶n̶ Apollo: Stages have been optimized, it now uses a bit of 3rd stage juice to finish circularizing (like the real one!). The 1st stage now has a little mainsail in the middle of that quad motor, instead of the nice big flat empty space ;] 3rd stage now uses a Skipper motor instead of the Poodle - as the poodlewas way underpowered. And I have removed unnecessary fuel from the Command & Lunar Modules. Here's a different, FAILED variant - because of the metal plates, the craft was 4 tons heavier, and apparently that was too much - the 3rd stage couldn't finish the transfer :^( So I decided to stick to the bowling pin look. B.T.W. It consists of 250 parts. The 2nd one was 300+... I'm now trying to make a nice little video of it. -

Show off your Apollo Replicas (.23.5)
Overfloater replied to Cmdr. Arn1e's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Hello! I'm working on an Apollo too! And so far so nothing. It looks totally weird (some sort of bowling pin), and the transfer stage gets me only halfway to the Mun... But I'll share the pictures of it anyway! Gonna need a bigger rocket... and I have yet to find a way to put a rover on it. I once had good multistage Apollo lander with a rover and eveything, but that save was lost looong ago :^c -
Today I performed a Munar landing, with a ~9 ton payload (including a break-dancing Jeep xD) while finding out exactly what my regular mid-range Venera is best suited for ;o) (next flight - Minmus) And I visited my Laythe colony, to replace 2 crew members. Unfortunately, I wasted too much fuel for the inclination burn on the Jool transfer, so visiting Duna after that is probably a bad idea... Should have waited for the zero inclination transfer like I did the 1st time... :^[

Overfloater replied to TeeGee's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
A variant of my Venera is certified for 54 tons to LKO... But whatever for? x^D I'm too busy putting trucks and Jeeps on other planets instead... Just LKO trips are boring. It's like arranging a field trip to your backyard! -
Here are awesome KSP pictures of how I -Fly my space-bi-plane through the new clouds -Install fancy fairings on H2O's ship, Kassandra (while flying through the new clouds... ;^)) -Deliver a Jeep to Duna. -Depart for a Laythe+Duna trip
-
I have put a Jeep on Duna. It's pretty good & stable! Equipped with a powerful gyroscope that helps to regain control in any situation! Even when travelling downhill at 40m/s !!! I'll make a video about it... someday... Also... this is my 100th post!!! I'm ready to recieve my million (preferably american) bucks now.
-
What a good ship! And a revolutionary return vessel! And I like the cool little manual that came with it xD You totally NEED to put these fairings on it!!! I'm still tweaking them, but if you'd like some, give me a shout ;^) (I don't charge) They will be way better on your ship rather than my useless Apollo xD
-
OK I'll ask. So where do I get these kind of clouds for my game < _ <
-
This is wonderful! such a perfect shape!
-
Thanks ÃÆ’ u ÃÆ’ Your truck looks totally like one of those 60's Russian vehicles. Or is it MAN by any chance? hard to tell. Didn't this super cool rover come with a garage? >_ÃŽËœ

Not gentle at all. Why don't I lift off when flapping my hands??? -
Oh yes I enjoyed that xD

Hmm... why not make a regular Apollo xD -
SSTOs! Post your pictures here~
Overfloater replied to KissSh0t's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
LOL!!!! NICE! Totally had to be done!!! Hey I got to use the big tank too you know!!! Well... ahumm... not that I did anything productive with it... I also concluded that my Venera is certified for 45 ton paylod to LKO. (after converting one to a supertanker ) With a minor modification, I can make it carry even 54 tons to LKO (removing one fuel tank...) My business is going well so far, I can no longer accept any other form of cargo transport! I will upload craft files shortly... x-b Edit!!! Knock urselves out... Crafts in the zip file: - Regular Venera with aerospike, the one that went to Duna. - Long range Venera (with aerospike), untested... - Supertanker tug (no aerospike) - 2 Regular Veneras (no aerospike) with example lightweight payloads) - 3 trucks 5~8 tons in weight - A ramp Don't be afraid to put 45 tons in your regular Venera, Just be sure to leave some of the oxidizer out. Action groups: 1. 2 jets 2. 2 jets 3. 2 jets 4. 2 jets 5. 4 Atomics 6. Bottom Aerospike (If equipped!) ALSO activated by hitting the BRAKES!!! 7. Toggle front intakes (not necessary) 8. 9. Cut chutes 0. Toggle landing gear (in case your cargo also has gear & u don't want THAT toggled along) Brakes: Toggle Aerospike, shut down atomics Action groups for the trucks: 7. 8. Toggle rear axle steering 9. Toggle motors 0. -

I want to see your Asteroid Tugs!
Overfloater replied to spikeyhat09's topic in KSP1 The Spacecraft Exchange
Here's a VIDEO of Venera & Katherine!!! xD I don't care if pulling is more effective/proper or not, I did it because it's freaking cool xD U see it in all sorts of silly sci-fi... it happened in Lexx, in Invader Zim, Space Truckers... and probably many more! And I see this fashion is catching up, huh... -
I met Katherine. Then I invited* her over to my place... She's a C, by the way --- *Invited - Forcibly dragged by a tow bar xD
