  1. I just found out you don't have to go to the space center when doing multiple evas, you just need to use ] and [ to switch between the Kerbals and ship. Helped doing a 24 man eva mission.
  2. What happens though when the "Kraken" eats the Kerbals as well? Happen to me while doing a mass Mun mission, I had all 22 nearly out for an eva and then a cloud of dust appeared......and two Kerbals vanished.
  3. Same name on Youtube, I am not a "big" youtuber but it is an easier format than just using pictures all the time.
  4. It could be a bug, I have not had that experience myself so I do not know. If there was a video of it it could shed light on to further understand. One habit I do is if I know I will be landing, even extremely high up, I will deploy my drogue chutes. By doing this I will then have a gauge for how soon after they half open that I need to deploy my others. Might not be the best practice again but it works for me personally, also setting chutes to an action group is not a bad idea either.
  5. I didn't get to play today, but I thought about things I can do starting this weekend. My big mission of 34 Kerbals to Minmus will be filmed Saturday and on Youtube soon after, I will be talking a bit on there so hopefully my voice is doing better. Also I thought about bringing Jeb back from Duna, since I have left him there for nearly a week now. Aslo on my normal Youtube save I will be mounting my rover mission to the surface also this weekend, this will help me prepare for my "official" Duna landing that I will have up on my channel soon after. In the mean time I have been playing another game and working a series up for that one, I do not need to talk over the game play so it is nice for my already hurt vocals. I am also considering a new microphone, since my cheapo headset seem very quiet when I record yet normalized in skype.....but that is off topic LOL
  6. Is it weird that once in orbit I open my landing gear and close it to make sure it is fine? LOL Maybe I have some weird form of OCD or something.
  7. Hmmm I deploy the drogue chutes first and once I am down to about 150m/s I pop the other ones before the drogues fully open. By the time the drogues open I am nearly down to 50m/s and once all my chutes go I am down to 6.5m/s give or take (this is on Duna.). While I did not know about the chute site myself I did something a bit more trial and error. I would launch my ship into an orbit around Kerbin and deorbit, and see what my chutes would do on the own. I figure if I could get under 6m/s on Kerbin I would be fine for Duna. I know not the most scientific way of doing it, but I had fun seeing if my ideas would work or not LOL.
  8. I dunno about anyone else, but for me there is enough randomness with my skills, or lack there of, to make any mission fun and exciting. I have never landed in the same place on any mission, mostly because I am still learning and the other half is just poor planning. Messing up staging while moving parts, so that one bank of SRBs does not fire causing your craft to back flip into the ocean. My more recent one a decoupler not breaking free causing the small engine to not want to fire, I think I may have put it on the wrong way but still... If they put it in I would be fine with it so long as there is a way of selecting if you want it on or, just like if the wanted something like deadly reentry in game. It may turn away new players from wanting to learn it as it would be overly complicated. I could be alone on viewing it this way though, but that is just my thoughts on it.
  9. I guess either I have been very fortunate, or just not noticing, or care to be honest, when someone is being rude. Honestly I feel this place has a much better community feel than some forums I have been to, but there is always one or two even in the good ones. Also OP welcome aboard, I picked the game up just before the sale but it was money well spent....though my instructors at the college might not think so LOL.
  10. Uh oh that's going to be......EPIC! Might want to show a picture of you lander though, it may need a small change to make it more stable. Also what is your m/s just before landing? That would be another point to look into. For me I seemingly always land on hills, but I have found if my landing gear are near center on mass I can sometime tip the lander back up with some playing with the legs and spinning the craft. Hopefully you get it figured out and get those boys home!
  11. Sorry double post and not sure where the remove button is atm.
  12. From the way it is worded yes Sunday would be the deadline, unless there are a lot of entries.
  13. Usually I use just enough dv to get myself into an orbit, dropping the last part of the launch stage back to the planet just before getting into a full orbit. My Mun rock main sail is dropped onto the surface of Mun usually being destroyed by the fall. This leaves my lander that returns and is recovered upon coming back to Kerbin. My interplanetary ship is going for a reusable aspect, the tug and lander will be able to be refueled in orbit of Kerbin, sending the refueling device back to the planet to be destroyed. So far the only "junk" I have on my test save, where I have been doing a lot as of right now, is my rover's deployment drone, and that can be destroyed by firing up the engines going up 20,000 m and letting it smash into the planet. One thing I would like to see possibly put in is remote detention devices. This way if you leave a piece that you know will not have a chance to be destroyed by any other means could be remotely blown up once you are X km from said item, think of a deadman switch based on range rather than someone holding a button. I know you can go into the space center and clean the that way, but this would make it nice to clean those pieces that maybe left while you are still playing at that time.
  14. Depending on the weight you are dropping to the surface as well you may need more chutes. I would use 4 drogue chutes (orange tops) and some of the square radials (I normally put 8 of them on even light crafts). While some will say to use the engines to land, personally I have not needed to use the throttle on my 2 crafts I set on Duna for more than a second or 2 max as I come in around 6.5m/s. I am far from an expert on landing there though and all stated information is from my personal experiences, hopefully it helps some.
  15. While it would be nice, I am sure there are other things that need more attention before easter eggs are fixed to be honest. One thing I would like to see is the "Kraken" dealt with while time warping, this has done me in many many times.
  16. Well knowing now I do not have to eva them out I might....maybe, maybe not LOL My current design would need more fuel I think as I ran out making my last burn to Kerbin. Lucky it was just enough to get down low enough and let aerobraking do its thing.
  17. While I do not know 100% if this qualifies as a "skycrane" delivery system, it is basic enough for not only a new person to build, using no mods, but get to places and use on the surface. This was built in sandbox mode so the is no science things on, save the antenna on the front and dish in the rear, but those items could be added on to it as need. It also has two command chairs for Kerbals to sit if the rover is near enough to them to explore the surface a bit faster than walking. The payload system can be modified in many ways to suit where it will be deployed, currently this was setup for a Duna/Eve landing and why it has parachutes and less fuel. It has 2 generators mounted in the middle and a round battery under center, along with solar panels to keep the electronics powered. I consider this more than easy for a new person to not only use but build and modify as they see fit, but in comparison to some may seem overly simplistic by their standards. I am still fairly new to the game myself, but felt I would through this out there and see what others thought of its design. It is by no means the prettiest thing ever built, but it is functional and that is what counts in my eyes. After landing on Duna .craft file here http://www./view/oor0igfiljr4t26/Roller%20stock.craft
  18. Oh now you tell me that LOL Heck I stopped at 26 due to evaing being a pain, even after finding out that the keys ][ will switch to different Kerbals >sigh< Of course this has given me an idea for a Youtube mini series, moon tours! Load up the Kerbals and visit different moons.
  19. Wait I thought you had to take all the Kerbals out for a group shot? Awesome design! I would have use the square radials on the sides of the hitchhikers though, in case of the main chutes failure it is best to have a back up set for emergencies.
  20. I had a launch clamp go through a tank while the launch pad was loading, kind of funny to watch everything blow up before I could even do anything.
  21. I was warping time during an eva as a Kerbal was break dancing on Mun's surface, and there was a cloud of dust. Suddenly 2 of my 24 Mun Man mission had vanished....the Kraken had ate them it is the only reasonable explanation.
  22. While I would like to do more than 1 Kerbal in a pod right now my skills do not permit me to do so, although I did just land 26 on Mun and got them home safely (thankfully because the only Kerbin not on the flight was on Duna LOL). I do do everything in my power to make sure they get home or I try to mount a rescue mission if it feasible to do so, no sense in sending more Kerbals on a suicide rescue mission if the chance is too small for a rescue. I believe even Apollo 13 they said it would have been impossible to rescue them if things got any worse. I do try my best to make sure that before I start a long mission that I feel like it is a good choice, and yes I realize it is only a game but it is the principal of the thing. That and I am currently in a medical ethics class for billing and coding for insurance LOL....so yeah I am using some of that in my choices too.
  23. I love that shuttle! I tried to build one with just stock parts, but it fell apart...I think I needed more space tape!
  24. Well for what I did today in KSP it is a story: While Jeb is sitting on Duna not wanting to come home from his "vacation" the other Kerbals decided to test a theory they had been thinking of for awhile. Tour bus to Mun, since taking a bus to see places is cheap on Kerbin why not do it on Moons as well. The science department went to work designing....it took them 10 minute to come up with something that "may" get them there and back in "one" piece. So the crews worked around the clock, stopping only for snacks, bathroom breaks, and their favorite T.V. show about the Undead Kerbals coming back to life. Once completed it was sent for testing, unfortunately that meant hand selecting "volunteers" to go to Mun and back in this heap....errr bus. The original goal of 30 was not met due to stability problems, both from the ship and the "volunteers", so the new number was 26. Loading up everyone into their seats, and yes the cheaper seats were "near" the engines, it was time for liftoff. Once in orbit a series of maneuvers were preformed to correct the pilots errors, mostly the errors were from him dropping his snacks onto the floor during liftoff. Once all the corrections were made they set a course for Mun, taking note that this tour bus had no functioning bathrooms in some of the pods. The day long journey though was well worth the cramped conditions though as they landed on Mun's surface, in a deep canyon that was also narrow. Eveyone put on their helmet and took their eva from the "bus" to have a look around. While out there someone suggested a group photo, so setting the timer they threw a camera into the air and got their group shot on the surface. Running low on snacks, and many in need of a bathroom stop, they loaded back up and headed back for Kerbin. Upon leaving however the "pilot" noted he had burned a lot of fuel trying to get his snacks....errr correcting errors in the flight plan, and had to shutdown 2 engines in hopes of having enough fuel to make it home. Using the last bit of fuel from the engines left running the ship crawled into an orbit, and on a path to Kerbin. Using the last remaining bits of fuel in the previously shutdown engines the crew made it home, nearly 31.1km from KSC.......with only one economy seat having a happy "accident" upon landing. Next up for the science team is to see if the bus can make it to Minmus and back......they just need to convince those "volunteers" to go again . Sorry for the long post but I thought it was funny hehehe. And yes I am thinking of using this to go to Minmus...I may even FRAPS the event and put it on Youtube for all to see.....we will see though.
  25. Ok I tried my best to hit 30, but I missed the mark by 4 . I got 26 to Mun and home (31.1km from the KSC) safe and sound....since learning I do not need to go back to the space center every time to do another eva . Launch pad Mun landing party of 26.....your table is ready. Ah I can see my space center from here.....sort of! I could honestly do more with chairs on the outside, but to me that is not being honest as they would die in them. All stock no mods or cheats used in completing this challenge. I think this is my limit though, however now I am curious if this would make it to Minmus and back! Maybe in the future I will try, but for now this was a good test of both building and flying for me.
