On that last paragraph, I think the discussion in this topic is not wether they get to that technological point, but assuming they already did develop some technology, how would they go about its space stage, right? The other two points are valid. But then, we're talking of "aquatic" worlds, meaning liquid. We're thinking of water because it's common to us, but it could very well be ammonia, or I don't know what. Some other liquid that doesn't interfere much with radio and isolates currents, like our atmosphere instead of our oceans. Dynamos might be difficult without metals/magnets, but chemical batteries are well feasible, provided the environment doesn't conduct the electricity away. Same with the conductors; I think we're being limited to the metal-and-fire-based tech we're used to. Some alien world could have different available materials, or evolution might just lead them to completely different methods.

I like where this thread is going! Sentient mollusks growing modelled shells? Awesome. As for this Snark's remark, I say they'll probably develop radioastronomy first. Eyesight or not, they're bound to develop some long-range high-speed communication technology, and that's probably going to involve radio or electromagnetism at some point. And then (with luck) they notice the interference from above. Then, there's this. They don't need to shape their own growth, but can rather cultivate it from their environment (think japanese square melons, or buddha-shaped pearls).

I think there's some misunderstanding here. Or, at least, I don't remember Squad ever mentioning they chose Steam because of server traffic. Instead, from what I read on the Devnotes my conclusion is similar to this:

By "the thing that caused the 1.1 controversy", do you mean the fact that it's on Steam and not on the webstore, or the fact that people can't deal with bugs on a pre-release software? I haven't read anything about 1.1 and server overload, maybe I'm disinformed. If you mean KerbalStuff going down, its server was underfunded, and the dev wasn't up to it anymore (which was not his fault in anyway). Which is why this time, much of the effort is being spent on "PR affairs", getting the community to help support it. And I don't see how an increased community would hurt that. yeah, I kinda agree about that. I support it, but I think an interface overhaul is welcome.

Banido porque F5 é quicksave. -

Some of the gardens I've seen online, my wife's and mine usually have some pretty unique things in them. AFAIK, everything is rare

Interesting topic! I'd just like to add something in relation to Snark's remark on oxy-water, that has real-life research into it. Remember the movie The Abyss, where they use breathable liquid to pressurize the suit for going really deep? That's real (sorta) (ctrl-F for "breathable"). The fluid worked, but it was dangerous; Ed Harris held his breath while shooting, but the rat wasn't so lucky (and survived, anyway).

I like browsing sometimes just to see what's new, and I'd like to be able to browse just gameplay mods, or just eyecandy mods, for example, and not even have to look at part ones. But then again, it's not something I think the site needs. It works perfectly fine so far.

Personally, I'd add mod categories/tags (UI, gameplay, parts, etc.). But I agree, a single project with many collaborators seems better for me too, for the same reasons.

Oh. Best luck with that! I really liked the female heads on the original Diverse Head Pack. Back when stock only had males they did a great job doing female textures for the male head shape (there was this one scientist with blue bangs. So cool.). But it didn't work with the new female heads and after I forgot about yours, all my females have been stock-boring (took me some time to understand your signature until I remembered they friggin' started fusion on Jupiter...)

Hah, look at those stars! The hell, your Megan has Excalibur?? o_O

Was sifting through oId posts, and realized I had completely forgotten about this texture pack! It's not on CKAN, could you add it/would you mind if I do? edit - I tried, but I give up. I hate GitHub. I really do.

You know, I was going to ask about it the other day but I was afraid to derail the subject! I do that, sometimes. I'm doing, it, now.

Generation Y, same as me. I agree, tho, it's rather stupid. I got no religion, no soccer team, no political affiliation. If it were up to me, I'd have no nationality and family name, either. If I'm better or worse than anyone else, it's because of what I do, what I know, the choices I made, and not because I had the "privilege" of being born in said place/time/social stratum/whatever.

Got 'em? Wanna share 'em? Here are mine: http://xkcd.com/1663/#0aa66228-fa6f-11e5-8001-42010a8e0013 My main one. I made others before, but this is the one I realized you could save the URL and it would edit only from that browser. http://xkcd.com/1663/#e13412ce-fb30-11e5-8001-42010a8e000d My blue garden. I wanna see what else other than Octopi grows on blue lights, but it's mostly boring. I put some warmer lights later for diversity, but the first one is still cooler. http://xkcd.com/1663/#8c21ea92-fa5c-11e5-8002-42010a8e0007 When I realized you could save your gardens, I dug my history and found the first one. I call it the 'Kittengarten'. Also, isn't this called 'The Lounge' anymore? I liked that p.s.: If you don't know what I'm talking about, XKCD strip 1663 is a flash where when you open it, it generates an ID which is associated with the browser that created it, so it's your garden but you can share it as read-only. You set up the lighting, and things grow. Slowly. From my experiments, it seems things grow in the background, but grow faster if at least one browser has that garden open (I leave my main one open at work, and got no reason to think anyone is looking at my other ones, but things still grow in them from time to time).

ShipEffects does work with 1.0.5; it won't show up on CKAN, but you can still install it manually. I read that Chatterer has some ship atmospheric sounds, too, but I'm not sure since I have ShipEffects installed.
