Lockheed claims breakthrough on fusion energy project
crazyewok replied to Argylas's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The expense of the F-35 has just as much to do with politics. A lot of its political aspects have driven up the cost of the figheters. -
Lockheed claims breakthrough on fusion energy project
crazyewok replied to Argylas's topic in Science & Spaceflight
I find it hard to believe the worlds number one defence corporation would "scam". The implications would be enormous. -
Yeah some teenage twats near me tried it once with a green laser pointer, nearly lost control of my car.
-
I dont know why the concept is so hard to grasp of NOT POINTING LASERS AT AIRCRAFT! If you stupid enough to do it then your deserve to be locked up as you obviously too stupid to be amongst normal people.

Likely due to its huge impact on the defence industry it had to go through some review too. -

I would hardly call Lockheed martin a multi national defence co operation which sits at around top of one of the biggest company's in the world "unknown" I also dont think such a company would risk its reputation on unfounded claims do you? Also if any company is going to come out with "revolutionary design" it will be a multi billion doller company that specialises in R&D and has some of the best minds in the world working for it as well as some of the most advanced equipment and facilities. Sitting on not only trade secrets but especially defence secrets, especially ones that would cause such a huge technological shift is hardly new to such company's? Especial such a company used to secrets and keeping things classified. -
One will get voted off the island...

Id like to see Space X and the Dream chaser. See Boeing and Lockheed monopoly on the space industry start to collapse. But politics being politics the monkeys in suites sitting in congress will pick bowing as the one of the ones to go ahead. -
Please disprove the theory of evolution to me

Sure you could do better. But 3 is not wrong, just not as right as it could be. As I said depends on the job you want done really. -
Im really looking forward to there next test on this..... I still harbour doubts but if not the the results will be interesting.

I was talking mathematics. Is Maths a banned subject on here? My point being 3 is no more wrong as Pi than 3.1415. Pi to me is 3. what ever you need it too to do the job. -

To be fair even if they had given the value as 3.1415 it would still be technically wrong. If I asked to write it out now you would technically be wrong. 3 pretty close seeing as they did not have super computers. It not like they said it was 4. -
Only military. Its economy is based on $17 trillion debt and its growths spurned by quantitative easing and deficit spending. Its basically a economic time bomb waiting to go off. USD is only worth what bankers say it is and only 1 bad day in the stock markets stand between it being worth something to being worth the value of my belly button fluff.

Excellent Project Orion Documentary
crazyewok replied to Northstar1989's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The big problem still would be a catastrophic failure on launch. Granted Nuclear bombs are not as bad as nuclear reactors if breached and wont melt down but a failed launch would mean hundreds of nukes falling down. Which granted wont exactly be going off as they would not have been detonated but the cases could break. That be negated by launching out at sea. If it fails and the nukes come tumbling back down then 2000 + m under the seas not likely to have much effect, we have put worse in the ocean. But there are defence concerns as what if a less than friendlily group recover one of the nukes ect -

But unlike the laws of physics situations and technology does change. Can you honestly predict what situations or technology will be around 10 years from now or even 100? I dont know were your from but the worlds political and technology situation doesn't exactly stay stable. -
I really like this mod but I dont know if Im missing anything. Using KSP 64x Using the experimental version Deleted all mods and reinstalled KSP and KSI from scratch. But still not working. Some engines in the VAB seem to be activated and they fall off the craft on the launch pad. Same with the reactors they fall straight through the craft.

Excellent Project Orion Documentary
crazyewok replied to Northstar1989's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Well they found ways round the radionuclide contamination or at least to minimise it, IE launch far out at sea, use high efficiency nukes, directed explosions ect. Basiclay the tricks not to launch it over or next to a city Some at the beginning they said it would kill 12 worldwide per launch, later after some readjustments <1. Now seeing as that's far less than random deaths caused by cars or trains worldwide I would not be too fussed but that personal opinion. Anyway the USA and Russia denoted more bombs in the cold war for more pointless reasons IE to show off. My main worry as you pointed out would be EMP damage. One launch and half the worlds satellites are out. That's the biggest issue for me. -

I beg to differ. A scientific barrier due to the laws of physics means you cant do something full stop. A political barrier is a human imposed barrier that can be changed. Again id beg to differ. With 1960's tec Il conceded and say yeah it was a stupid idea. With today's tec? Maybe insane but with say a conventional launch system and change in law? I wouldn't be against it. But the question would be why would we need too? there are better cheaper ways to get to mars, only Jupiter + would it be worth it Future? Well I dont know what technology we will have in 10 years time let alone 100 so for all I know certain scientific and political breakthroughs could make the safety aspects of it much more tolerable in which case go for it! Unless we have something far better. -

Nope im not confused. Certainly not mixing NERVA and Orion up here. When it became clear that fallout may be a issue they actually considered launching to orbit. Even Von Braun was brought in. Remember is was a scientific dead end just a political one. Scientifically the consensus was that likely it would have worked. It was the test ban treaty, defence and nuclear safety concerns that killed it. Source is for the Saturn and Nova plans Project Orion the atmoc spaceship by George dyson pages 238-253
