Was the equipment module left in space? And why? I've been putting together subassemblies for all of FASA's parts and this ocurred to me as I was putting together the capsule. (and seeing as I seldomly even use the Gemini parts it never occurred to me before) I've tried finding information on it, but there doesn't seem to be anything that actually discusses why its, apparently, left in orbit. Obviously its not like they were going to stay up there forever, but still. Seems odd that they'd design the spacecraft like that.

EVE still works, as does astronomer's pack, for the most part. It just takes some know how to know how to get it working. Involved replacing a lot of configs with the basic ones, which mean that while I don't get the full effect of Astronomer's pack, I do at least still get good looking clouds without any glaring visual errors. This is what my Kerbin looks like in 1.02

"Space Launch System" needs a better name!
G'th replied to SmallFatFetus's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Whatever its name will end up being (Simply because even if NASA doesn't rename it, the press will), it'll likely end up a repeat of the LM/LEM situation. Most people will still call it the SLS for short. -
I have this problem, but even getting the anchor node right doesn't work all the time. And when it does, part of the model clips out unrealistically.

You, sir, are the man. Also to note with the update, does anyone else have issues with the KSO25 slowing down too well? Even if I do a straight dive from 3k km up and pull up it still drops my speed down to less than 40m/s. Not that it necessarily detracts from the usability of the shuttle, it just makes for very boring landings lol.

I know it was possible at one point or another, but does anyone still have a config that enables texture switching for the shuttles? So that I could use all the different names but not have a bunch of redundant parts. I know someone posted them once, but I haven't been able to find it and I'd imagine that they're broken at this point anyway. Also to note, its fantastic to be able to really use this mod. I never used to be able to play without FAR and now I don't really need FAR anymore, so this mod is actually very usable.

I too have problems with Duna, but its more because I get right up to the prep stages for the mission and then end up either getting hooked on another idea or I end up wanting to redesign the entire mission.

What is your "complete game" installation?
G'th replied to ezequielandrush's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well, seeing as I typically go from stockalike to realistic to futuristic depending on my mood, I'll just list the common denominators. EVE Texture Replacer (EVE and TR using my personal kitbash of KSPRC and Astronaut's Interstellar) Dmagic KIS/KAS VOID Near Future Solar RPM Kerbal Alarm Clock TweakScale Tweakable Everything Parts from KW Rocketry (Namely the fairings and the ullage motors) Collision FX ScanSAT Kerbal Joint Reinforcement RealChute Toolbar -
What small mistakes did you make that ruined your mission?
G'th replied to syfyguy64's topic in KSP1 Discussion
How fast are you coming in to reentry if you need to start at 64km up? Thus far I've done Minmus returns at a negative periapsis and I hardly shed half the ablator in a 2.5m shield. -

G'th replied to syfyguy64's topic in KSP1 Discussion
During my first ever Duna landing I had set up a perfect automated encounter and landing using Remotetech, I forgot to turn on the main antenna (the one that could actually reach Kerbin from Duna) and didn't realize until I was entering the Dunian atmosphere, well out of range. But, it did land intact, so it wasn't all bad. -
Is this the same bug that's spawning the clamps as debris mid flight?

Teleportation big question: does it kill person in process?
G'th replied to Pawelk198604's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The question is, even if you did die and what comes out is a clone, would it matter? The biggest indicator that this likely issue with teleportation would even matter at all is if there's a perceivable loss of consciousness during the process and if the brain is affected in anyway, be it psychological or physical. If the conscious brain can't tell the difference between either state (even if you're technically dealing with an entirely new being on the other side) and isn't otherwise affected, then who really cares? Neither being would be able to tell it died, and presuming the two beings are 100% identical and the brain isn't affected in any way, then whether or not you're dealing with a clone is irrelevant. It may still pose a philosophical issue, but it still comes back to the consciousness problem, and whether or not you really want to get hung up on philosophy when you've invented something that would be an extraordinary milestone in science. -
The thing also about Knights in heavy plate type armor, is that a lot of them wouldn't have necessarily been on foot. While a Knight could certainly fight well on foot in his armor, ideally speaking a knight or any kind of warrior that would be fighting primarily (if not entirely) on foot wouldn't want to be using plate armor, at least not to the point pop culture would have you believe anyway. Full plate armor is typically meant to be used on horseback. A Knight on foot would may be go for some plate on his chest, thighs, hands, and his head. All the uncovered areas wouldn't be critical and using plate in those areas would typically hamper your fighting ability depending on the armor and how it was made. And even then, plate armors that were designed in such a way to maintain a Knights full combat ability, would likely either be very very expensive, and/or wouldn't have much an advantage anyway. Still though, knights on foot still wouldn't likely use plate. Especially in the time periods most western RPG's tend to emulate. IIRC, plate armor on foot soldiers wasn't too common up until the Renaissance, at which point it was rendered mostly obsolete by firearms anyway.

Today I completed my first Mun landing in the post 1.0 KSP. There were many revels.

Do you like the new Aerodynamic system in the game?
G'th replied to Dspan_000's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I love it, because its one less mod I need. Just wish the aerodynamic effects got more of an update along with it. I'd love to see some more visually impressive mach effects. -
So now that I've started playing again, I've noticed that stock SAS doesn't seem to be as strong as it used to be (as evident by a near disaster Mun mission). Is this because my pilot is still level 1 or is it because SAS was nerfed? On a related note, did they implement some sort of fix for the whole "warp to stop ship rotation" thing? Seems like even though my ship stops rotating when I warp, soon as I come back out it starts rotating again on its own.

I am at close to 1500 hours, and I have only ever landed at Duna and Eve, with probes that were DOA and useless. So don't feel bad lol.

The most important cargo for an SSTO (particularly of the spaceplane variety) is in Kerbals. This is evident just in the simple fact that all of all the parts that can hold Kerbals, the spaceplane parts are the only ones that can hold a significant amount of them. Using SSTO's for anything else is mostly just pushing the boundries for the funsies more than it is a practical solution.

What's going on with the "Explore _____" contracts?
G'th replied to zarakon's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I don't know if this was actually the case or not, but I always thought that it took into account how long and how many tries it took for you to do the initial roll of contracts (IE, orbit, escape atmosphere, launch new vessel, Kerbin science) that would determine at least what initial explore contracts you get. This seemed to be the case for me even in 1.02 where if I played around a bit, taking a couple launches to complete the initial contracts, I'd get a Mun, then Minmus, then Duna/Ike, and so on. But then if I went and did the contracts all in one launch, it'd skip over the Mun (and sometimes even Minmus) entirely no matter how many contracts I cancelled. -
I only turn down either setting when I have tough eva's going on. The shake makes it harder to grab onto stuff when the game decides to bug out.

Tonight, I did some work on my upcoming mission to Duna. I started with the CSM and the Lander, both of which are inspired almost entirely by Eyes Turned Skyward.

Not sure what could cause this (Though I imagine it has to be one of my mods), but when activated via action groups, the LES' engines cease to function. I can activate the engine and it'll say its running, but no fuel will be used and no thrust generated. But interestingly enough, if activated via staging (even after attempting to use action groups) then the engine actually works. I noticed that this happens with the stock LES and FASA's LES'. Haven't tried to see if it does it with other parts.

Well its not really arbitrary. It's limited because of the limits of your VAB. Can't exactly build a Saturn V in a typical garage. That being said, height and weight restrictions are more accurate in this vein of thinking. A better way might be to make the height and weight restrictions more constricting and then just get rid of the cap on part count. It makes sense the level 1 VAB couldn't handle the complexity of a fully loaded Saturn V. But it doesn't make sense that you couldn't add an extra fin (that wouldn't add any significant weight or height) to your Mercury-Redstone just because it would mean you had 41 parts instead of 40.

Lunar impact. And funnily enough, there actually is a company that does it. Hopefully whenever the time comes they'll still be around.

My crowning achievement thus far has been a tie between my probe landings on Duna and Eve. The Eve one survived, though it had little use because it was merely intended to be a flyby. The Duna one was DOA even though the completely automated ship performed smoothly. Forgot to set the interplanetary dish to target Kerbin so by the time I was halfway out from Kerbin, I could no longer give any commands to the lander. Chances are I'm going to set up a Duna mission. Its high time I landed a Kerbal there.
