Nahh, ever since I found out about OpenGL i haven't needed it. -
[1.2.2] Stock Part Revamp, Update 1.9.6. Released Source Files!
G'th replied to Ven's topic in KSP1 Mod Development
Welp, it looks like this: It pretty much only affects the Mk 1-2 pod, as that seems to be the only part you kept flag decals on. Regular flags work fine, but any flags with transparency cause that issue. Almost as if whatever controls the display of the decal can't handle the Alpha channel or something. -
[1.2.2] Stock Part Revamp, Update 1.9.6. Released Source Files!

Was there ever a fix (or an already existing one) for using partly transparent flags on the Mk 1-2? Also, love the mod! Its one of my mandatory installs. Everything looks just fantastic. -
I'm partial to Apollo 12 myself, though mostly because I just fell in love with the mission's portrayal in From the Earth to the Moon. That documentary/movie makes all three of those astronauts look like the most wicked bunch of guys you ever knew.

So, today was my birthday! (23) And because my sister is awesome, she got me an annual pass to Kennedy Space Center. Naturally, I'm excited as all get out, because the few times I've been able to go, I was always kind of held back by people who had such frivolous things as "schedules" and "lives" so now I get to take my time and really enjoy it. And whats more, I have a year to go at it! Tomorrow's going to be my first visit. Going to be fun

Indeed, so my thoughts were pretty much correct that there isn't much you could do with a solar station.
-
With current technology*, would there ever be any real point to solar orbit space stations? And in particular, manned ones? With the Asteroid Day mod requiring that the telescope be located in Kerbolar orbit, it made me wonder about the real life applications of such orbits besides debris dumping. Obviously the real version of the Sentinel is one such application. But then I wondered about space stations, and what purpose one would have, especially if it was manned. To me, it seems like keeping it supplied would be even more difficult than it would to supply bases and stations in orbit around other planets (because you don't have that handy planet with a nicely sized SOI to get captured by), and outside of fuel depots in the outer planets I just don't see what else you could do with it.

Common Denominator: Part Clipping. Unless you get lucky, part clipping is very likely to do exactly this. Now, if you get rid of the part clipping and it still does this, then you have some kind of odd bug that I couldn't help you with.

Indeed, and you can thank me for that little idea lol.

All issues with the rather silly story aside (I mean, a Saturn V launch for a sattelite? Pfft), did anyone else really enjoy the sets and overall look of the movie? While I felt that the LM interior seemed a bit larger than it actually was, I was still impressed overall with how realistic it all looked. And with the style they applied to the scenes to make it resemble old Apollo footage was a really nice touch. And even the LK lander was pretty cool to look at, even if it made no sense for the Russians to be able to get to the Moon without the US noticing.

NASA Exhibits Space Shuttles Challenger, Columbia Debris for First Time
G'th replied to Frybert's topic in The Lounge
Oh wow I'm surprised I'm only just hearing about this. Definitely going to have to go and see it when I head up to the center again. -
Yes. There's only a couple of mods that don't work for either version that I've been able to find. 1.03/4 didn't break much.
-
That's the nature of tech support. And its not petty to want to avoid it. Its petty to lock out users who aren't doing anything wrong simply because they happen to be using something unsupported. Thats the crux of why I don't like when modders do this. As I said, its perfectly reasonable why you did it. Doesn't change the fact though that you're punishing people who didn't do anything wrong.

Is Kethane Working after 1.0.4 update?
G'th replied to ezequielandrush's topic in KSP1 Mods Discussions
I don't believe it is, but Kethane as a whole is pretty outdated as far as ISRU mods go. For one, ISRU is in the stock game now. Two, Karbonite has pretty much overtaken it as the mod option for ISRU. Which is a shame, naturally, because Kethane is one of those mods that hits right in the nostalgia. -
Whats funny is that if your rocket was well designed, it shouldn't be flying very differently between any of the versions. At the worst, you just have to adjust how YOU fly the rocket. I'm pretty certain its the largest reason why people who were used to mods like FAR didn't have any issues with the new aero. (outside of bugs and things that shouldn't be the way they are from a realistic viewpoint)

About 3 minutes. Close to 100 different mods now (and room for more, despite my kitbash of Astronomer's Interstellar VP, Endraxiels Planet textures, KSPRC, and Ven's Revamp) with most of the big part packs (KW, Tantares, Near Future, KSOS, HGR, UKS, etc. Really only missing FASA because this is a stockalike install) and a TON of gameplay mods.
-
I don't see why you'd want to downgrade. There's only a couple of mods that aren't working for 1.03/4 and the changes are nothing but good.
-
It is zero effort for me, because I've been modding games for years and I know enough not to bother the modder when I go messing around with the internals of their mod. (Unless its to ask how ) Not everyone on the internet is like that. And yes, one question is zero effort. If I had a mod that went as deep as Ferram's go, that'd be the first question I'd ask regardless. You literally have to not like supporting your users if you think one question is too much effort, no matter how many people are coming to your mod's page.

Multiple Curious questions, first playthrough.
G'th replied to GarrisonChisholm's topic in KSP1 Discussion
Well for number 2, if you had your boosters connected by fuel lines, then its likely a matter of: 1. One engine's thrust not being equal to the other. It is easy to accidentally to it. Right Click the part in the VAB and make sure the thrust limiter is equal for both boosters. 2. Fuel lines not being set up properly. If you set up your boosters in a symmetry, then its very possible that one of the booster's fuel lines didn't copy over correctly. Recheck the fuel lines. 3. Fuel not being equal in both boosters. AGain, right click and check the levels. Can also happen if you don't have exact copies for the boosters, if you set them up individually. -
It takes zero effort to weed out someone using an unsupported configuration. All it takes is one question. I didn't say that modders are selfish. Cool strawman there. I said that modders are being petty when they unilaterally deny certain players (or all players, as has and can happen) access to the mod because of other people being whiny on the internet. Is it unreasonable for them to do so? No. But is it a fair solution? Not even remotely. There's zero reason to deny access like that (especially when you offer zero alternative*) and ultimately it hurts the people you're doing all of this for. People not going to the right place for support (or just plain trolling for that matter) is a moderation issue, and its not solved by shutting down access. As I've said, I've seen this same situation play out countless times, and in the end, its the users who lose out. *Its not hard to provide a version that doesn't shut down in x64, and its not even something you have to call attention to. Those who actively want x64 for your mod and know what that entails are going to find it and use it. EDIT: I'd also like it to be known that I don't use x64. OpenGL works better for me and I don't have to go recompiling mods every time theres a new version.

I also find that it takes away a bit of the Kerbal spirit. Not being able to activate parts inside of a fairing means thats an uncountable amount of wacky contraptions lost. That and I can't even imagine why it was ever needed other than as a hand holding measure. If you activate your engine inside the fairing and things blow up, thats the players fault not the games.

I see the hate as a result of modders mostly being incapable of distancing their personal feelings from people who come to comment on their mod. Its not really unique to this community. I've been in dozens of different modding communities and there are always people who end up lashing out at the players because of a bunch of whiny people who messed things up for themselves. In essence, because modders can't or won't not take things personally, us who also get issues when we essentially break the warranty (but know enough not to moan about it like its the modders fault) get screwed when the modders lash out and lock out access. Its being petty in response to people being petty. I was a modder myself and my mods had plenty of complaints along these lines, and I always helped the people who came in and spoke reasonably. The people who didn't? I ignored. Simple fact of the matter is, even if someone is actively lashing out at you for not supporting them (When they voided the warranty), then its on the moderators to step in and nix it in the bud. Screwing over everybody else isn't a solution. I'm honestly just thankful that OpenGL exists and works for me, because otherwise I'd have to force myself to learn Linux to play the game the way I want to. - - - Updated - - - I see the hate as a result of modders mostly being incapable of distancing their personal feelings from people who come to comment on their mod. What if Apollo 13 Occured in an Apollo Direct Ascent Spacecraft?
G'th replied to fredinno's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Funnily enough, they'd probably get home more comfortably than the real 13 did unless the entire craft went to hell. Both stages of the Direct Ascent configuration would have been able to return the astronauts home regardless of the status of the other. Though, if the upper stage failed, they'd probably lose LS as its unlikely for the lower stage to have any of that capability when its going to just be left on the Moon. -
Patient grass hopper. Patience. BEsides, in the current iteration we've got for testing you'd tear your hair out at some of the stuff going on lol.
