  1. What do you mean by "switched to SFJackBauer's RealEngines." Does this mean when I install RealFuels that I should be using that set of engine configs instead of your Reaching for the stars one? I'm still finding it pretty confusing to get all the pieces of this pie correctly installed.
  2. Yeah I totally take back my earlier "too easy" statements. I have yet to design a rocket with enough dV to get into a stable orbit - at any height.
  3. Thanks for the details. I knew about the flight computer, but I thought it just did what there were buttons for. I didn't know you could get it to do other things as well!
  4. This was posted in the RSS thread: I'm in career mode, not sandbox, but most of the tanks i'm using right now are stretchy tanks Kerbal Joint Reinforcement FAR is recommended.
  5. Yeah blocking the heat is where i'm having trouble. At the moment i'm being absurd and trying to use a 2m heatshield on a 0.5m probe in hopes that it will block the heat, but the thing is about as aerodynamic as a Borg cube so I can't get it to orbit haha. EDIT: Amusing but no way it will work

  7. Ok fair enough. In stock KSP most of my designs take an entire stage just to get to 10km, so when this quickly slapped together rocket hit 40k before I even realized it, I felt I had to be doing something wrong.
  8. In stock KSP an engine with 30 max thrust wouldn't lift an ant off the ground. This thing has a TWR of over 5.
  9. So this seems way too easy. I must be doing something wrong. I installed this, RSS, as well as all the required mods, and some of the optional ones. I also installed all the recommended and required mods for "Realistic Progression LITE Tech Tree" I made this puny rocket: And easily got to 40km altitude. Basically a Stayputnik on top of a 0.5m x 1m stretchy tank, and a puny max thrust 30 engine.
  10. Actually I think it is working. I just realized that the layout of all the celestial bodies HAS changed to what looks like the real solar system. I had assumed this mod would also change the names to the real names, and change at least Kerbal's texture to look like Earth, so when I saw the Kerbal names, and the normal Kerbal planet, I assumed it was not working.
  11. Hey gang any ideas what I may be doing wrong? I have installed this mod, but i'm still getting the stock kerbal solar system. I mean, I see no special install instructions other than the standard, putting it in GameData so i'm unsure what I could possibly have done wrong.
  12. I'm using the techtree recommended in the RO mod, which I think came with a config to make RT have proper range.
  13. Thanks for the quick response, even though the answer was me being a dimwit. I didn't know about the launch clamps giving fuel though so that's a cool thing to learn. Thanks!
  14. Ok please ignore my above post. I figured out what I was doing wrong. Too many mods all at once, I was just lost I guess. For anyone who cares, my problem was actually with Remote Tech. First time i'd ever used it, and apparently being clamped in gave you a solid connection but as soon as you release the clamps, you rely on antennas at that point, so I was losing connection. *leaves in shame*
  15. Hey all, I am having some problems that I think are related to this mod. Most likely me being stupid and not understanding it. Anyway i've set up a KSP install for "realism" using the Realism Overhaul mod, and all the specified "required" and "suggested" mods. I set up a basic probe, a stretchy tank, and engine. Here is a video showing my issue. I'm having several issues. 1) While firing on the test stand, throttle isn't adjusting thrust 2) While firing on the test stand, no fuel is being consumed 3) When I release the clamps, the engine immediately dies So, um, what the heck am I doing wrong?
  16. That could be it. Honestly I was rushing to get all the realism stuff installed on my lunch hour so I may just have not seen the obvious. I'll check again tonight. Thanks!
  17. Is this functioning as expected? When I load the tree RPL_V18 I only have 3 parts unlocked. All 3 of them are heatshields. Makes it kind of hard to , um, make rockets with nothing but heatshields.
  18. Thanks! Yeah that was how I ended up here. I basically just opened up all the links in Nathan's signature, but this thread had me confused.
  19. Hey guys i'm confused. Sorry I didn't read all 47 pages, so the confusion is no doubt from that, but... Is this a mod or just discussion? If I want to get a nice realistic play through what should I be installing?
