Hello all, I just got initiated into the wonderful world of astronomy, having been gifted an Orion SkyQuest XT10 Dobsonian telescope for my birthday. Or rather, 2 Orion telescopes. (They shipped me another by accident ) Can any of you give me some tips as to how to use it? I'd like to look at galaxies and nebulae, but looking at the outer planets is fine too.

Woo, I've got a doozy. I was riding my bike last summer, and wasn't paying attention to where I was going. I must have hit a bump in the sidewalk or something, because I skidded and fell, landing on my hip. I tried to get back up, but my leg failed me. I limped (or rather, hopped on a leg) over to a patch of grass and laid down on my side, waiting for about 45 minutes for help. Finally got it when someone was walking by me. Got taken to a hospital, found out I broke my hip, and had surgery done. That was one heck of a day.

Now that i have (FINALLY!) gotten the hang of docking, I am going to build a Kerbin Space Station (Oberon) and a Mun Space Station (Name suggestions, anyone?) I also want to have a long-term Jool Space Station that can hop around the moons, but that's for when I have my 2 demonstrators working.

What did YOU feel like after your first docking?
Spuds replied to mythic_fci's topic in KSP1 Discussion
My first docking took two hours. Now it seldom takes over 10 minutes. I'm proud My first attempt ended in failure, when I accidentally flipped the docking port the wrong way, thinking docking required a male-female connection like a USB port. I managed to rendezvous and got myself aligned. When the magnetic force pulled the craft together, however, they did not merge. I quickly realized my mistake and tried to remove the two, but the parts clipped into each other and the force was too great to be overcome by my RCS thrusters. Needless to say, I didn't dock again until recently. -
Docking port physics
Spuds replied to CaptainKipard's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
From my understanding of docking in KSP, the two vessels are actually merged, so I think the docked nodes are treated as regular connection nodes. Once they are told to undock, the ships will split along the port into 2 other ships. I could be utterly and totally wrong, however. -
In the FAR future of KSP, I'd like to see all kinds of asteroids, like S-type and Rocky asteroids. I'd also like to see asteroids in different locations, like having Jool Trojans at the (Not simulated, just observed) L4 and L5 of Jool. Telescopes would be cool, but I'm more than happy to mess with these asteroids for a long time

I'm not sure why there are so many guys trashing on Squad right now. Every game has a few things that people don't like, but that doesn't mean the company itself is bad. Aesthetics are some things that can be easily changed, and for a game like KSP, where the focus is on simulation/gameplay, aesthetics are some of the last things a developer should have to worry about. Can't we all just be happy about the fact that we're getting 3.75 - 4.5 meter parts, which seemed impossible for Squad a few months ago?

Ditto with razark, I mapped my translation keys to the key pad. Docking has never been easier Offtopic: Is it just me, or does the "green" prograde marker look yellow? A lot have people have said it looks green (including the wiki), but it looks yellowish to me...

Is it, though? Looks like the Duna Space Station to me... And welcome back, Czo! If you need any more time off, please take it without hesitation!

I think you're missing the point of why they are closing the resource related threads, MR4Y. The threads are being closed because Squad has explicitly stated that they DO NOT want to add resources now, and do not want them to be part of the current game. To them, these threads obscure the influx of new ideas that are coming in, and these threads eventually dissolve into a poo-flinging contest at Squad, which nobody enjoys. I believe in a previous Devnote or Squadcast they spoke about why they didn't want resources and why they believe it will detract from the game experience. And frankly, not everyone wants to have resource mining. I for one don't; I really like building fueling ships and launching and docking them together with other ships. I say as respecfully as I can that not everyone on these forums shares your opinion and wants resource mining. Since reception is rather mixed as well, Squad thinks that it isn't a good idea to add resources. Squad has the right to whatever goes into their game, and though there have always been some features I wanted, I like the direction KSP is going in. Now, I'd like to get back on topic with the thread. I've been interested in the idea of a discovery observatory, finding other celestial bodies to land and do science on. However, there has been no official word after the intent declared to add it some time ago. How do you guys think that it will be implemented?

Jeez Czo, take however long a break you want. Your safety is more important than the Grand Tour. And a quick clarification; is Russia trying to occupy/annex Crimea just to expand its territory and infulence, or is this motivated by the fact that Crimea has a warm-water naval base and has military significance? Stay safe, Czo!

Wait Wait Wait That last screencap... The spoiler that I was worrying about... CZO I AM ONTO YOU

Amazing as usual, and with 100% less destruction! I really enjoy how you incorporated all of the arguments into the argument. It really felt dynamic and it was pretty interesting to hear all sides of the story that way! Side note: Did you actually get a NaN Kraken occurance in that photo, or was that shopped? GG Czo, Spuds

Just as an FYI, in the stream at 5:58 you can see 2 new engine parts. Wonder if they are the NASA engines, because they look MASSIVE! -
Addition to Ike gravioli assist Wow, a reply from the Grand Master himself! I'M ECSTATIC! Anyway, I have an amendment to my plan. If you perfom the Ike assist, I think you should have a short retroburn at PE, emphasis on short, because you don't want to end up blowing Proteus to pieces and getting captured in Ike orbit. It will also reduce the amount of Delta-V needed to get captured in Duna orbit even further, with a high-atmo aerobrake and a short retroburn following the Ike assist. The emphasis has to be placed on making sure there is never too much stress on the Proteus, being an aging ship running Windows Vista and all I dub this manuver combination PIERRE : Proteus Ike aERobrake REtroburn. --Spuds

OTHER OPTION: Combo Braking with possible Ike assist As other people have stated, you could use a combination Aerocapture and Retroburn to slow you down; the fusion cores wouldn't be stressed as much and the hull would be a bit safer during aerobraking. Alternatively, if you have an Ike encounter, you could use a gravity assist to slow you down by crossing over the prograde side of Duna. Although, you'll have to be in a pretty tight margin to do so, so that may not be possible. I suggest sending one of those Kethane mining probes (the one BERTY tried to kill Jeb with) to examine the base. you want to know what happened down there before you go there. Since it's in the southern hemisphere, I wonder... Wait, nope, possible spoilers.

OH god Czo, when I saw that the title was daisy, I thought that meltdown was imminent. And I was wrong! THANK KOD! For those of you who don't get it (SPOILERS!): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=63h_v6uf0Ao Magnificent chapter, Czo! I couldn't expect you to top the last chapter, but you did! I LOVE BEING WRONG! (Except on tests) EDIT: Just realized it was referencing 2001 Space Odyssey. Point still stands, though!

You bring up a good point there, but I still believe that BERTY's methods are flawed. He believes that the Kerbals are unable to help themselves, and I disagree with that. As I've stated before, BERTY doesn't have true emotions, and therefore does not understand the Kerbals. I believe that the Kerbals, like us, do not require intervention to prevent our death and/or annihilation in the future; we're/they're perfectly capable of fixing our own/their own lives. He doesn't understand this; he's unwilling to let Kerbals decide for themselves what must be done, something I believe a simple robot shouldn't have the privilidge of doing.
-
Was there ever a doubt? Jeb, of course! BERTY brings up a good point; that the US of K is being selfish in its motives, and that the data collected should be given to all of Kerbalkind. This is a rational, normal conclusion that many people would have made. However, BERTY's manipulation of the crew, especially Jebediah, is detrimental to their success. BERTY claims that he is only acting in Kerbalkind's best interest, but he's flinging them at planets and moons like cow patties (Sorry, sorry...). If he had a genuine interest in Kerbals, he would have told at least Jeb or Bill the mission and made it explicitly clear that this was a mission with a high chance of failure. And this is where BERTY fails, people. He fails to recognize that he is just a machine, built to SERVE the crew, not carry out his own agenda. I find it ironic that he says that he's helping Kerbality, while plotting the destruction of a nation and acting selfishly on his own. He's just a computer, a mess of capacitors and processors. A computer will never understand the moral decisions that go on in every day life, much less over a period of time. This is why he couldn't predict Jeb up to a point; There are just too many variables, too many ways a Kerbal with EMOTIONS can act. BERTY doesn't have EMOTIONS, so he can never expect to help an intelligent species with EMOTIONS. Anyway, that's it for my rant. Thank you czo for writing such and amazing AAR. I look forward to seeing your AAR flourish and your guide!
