overheating problem
Cant think of a username posted a topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I am just a new player, so I don't know much. I have just launch a rocket and added too much stages. It blasted off way farther than I wanted it to. I added a heat shield below the payload bay and the command pod. But the thing started to display overheat when I started to reentry. The science things on the command pod started to overheat as well. In the end, two of the four science experiments I had exploded. As well as one of the two parachutes I have. I landed at a high speed and crashed the payload bay. the command pod survived, but I loss a lot of science. So I wonder if there is a way to protect the parachutes and science with the parts I have so far (I don't have the monster/inflatable heat shield) -
I have three kerbals hanging on to the back of a heat shield during reentry. The heat shield is 2.5m, so more than enough room for all three to fit. Yet they still overheat and explode even after many tries. Do they actually have to be in a pod for the heat shield to work properly? Here is the scenario: https://imgur.com/a/Q2FAfSp

So I am building an Interstellar ship that has a micrometeoroid shield (Technically a heatsheild but I can pretend) on the front because it has the Orion drive from USI witch in real life could get up to 3-5% the speed of light where the smallest particles could destroy the spacecraft with it. The Ship i'm building is massive and might require a 20-40m heatsheild/micrometeoroid to cover the entire ship. Does anyone know of a 1.2 or 1.2.2 compatable mod that adds something like this?
