Would you like to be abducted

I would like to visit an alien craft, but I wouldn't prefer that experience to fall under the term, "abduction."

Perhaps something more consensual than being snatched from the bedroom in the middle of the night and strapped to an operating table the whole time.

Nope. I prefer them to be a bit more polite. Ask me, maybe? Letting me know what is going on and perhaps giving me a choice of refusal at any point during the journey with them? Just some nice human etiquette when they visit us, and I would be more than willing to learn theirs and visit them.

Those 'alien abductions' are usually a result of people getting sleep paralasys, and not knowing what it is.

So are we going to asume the flying saucer beams you up and probes you, than puts you back? Or a more realistic version where FTL capable beings actually do sensable things?

I'd love actual contact with aliens, though I'd rather have them contact actual scientists

As I have found evidence of several different species with different agenda, the two most major being the Reptilian Dracos and the humanoids. I would rather be "abducted" by the humanoids as they appear to bear good will toward us humans. The most well known species, the Greys, appear to be a neutral working class species of the Dracos. The Dracos want to wage war and wipe out humans from Earth and claim Earth as their own.

I would have thought that if Earth was under attack it'd be a lot more obvious than it seems to be. Abducting people only to return them doesn't seem to be the most efficient way of wiping out the inhabitants of a planet.

Even if they weren't a naturally warlike species, you'd think they'd have picked up a trick or two watching us humans for any sort of length of time. :/

Based on my research, I believe that they MAY be working on a biological weapon, a super virus that they are immune to but we are not.

If so, they must fail as hard at medicine as they do at warfare. Haven't they been at this for decades?

Strange. You'd think an interstellar species with slave races in tow would be, you know, smarter.

Do I get to come home afterwards? Are there .... probes involved?

only if you're on the OT

true, you'd think, but don't forget, that they are trying to compete with another sentient species who are also strong working with medicine.

Yea, if there's anyone that can teach you how to wipe out humanity, it's humanity

But they already are immune to most/any diseases that would affect us.

Human viri (is that the plural? virussus?) can't even affect closely related species, let alone species that evolved on a different planet

Something else about the Dracos, they fear us because of our natural warrior ability. They see us as a threat to their agenda if we were ever to go interstellar (a case we are quickly bringing to fruition). I have discovered that they have been actively trying to hold us back for an "keep the window of opportunity open." This window, I speak of, is the time they have before we have interstellar abilities!

To answer the original question: no, I wouldn't like to be abducted. By definition, abduction is not likely to be pleasant. If an alien being was to invite me to visit their craft or homeworld, it would be a different matter.

Personally, I suspect that tales of alien encounters and abductions serve the same cultural purpose as tales of encounters of leprechauns, fairies, pixies, etc, did in times past. Sometimes as harmless tongue-in-cheek fun, sometimes as an excuse for some nasty thing ("Aliens made me lose my job! It wasn't the alcohol, but aliens, honest!"), and sometimes because something weird happened and people decided to drop it in the "aliens" slot due to some form of laziness or wishful thinking. If and when contact with real aliens happens, I suspect abduction stories will vanish and be replaced by something else.

Not saying that the alien abduction thing is real, but you DO realize that this is EXACTLY what animals probably experience when we tag them, right?

Huh...

No I had not realized that.

Though humanity mostly tags animals to study them. There are far easier ways to study humans. Most scientists would jump at the oppertunity to help aliens study us.

That does only reduce it from 'outright insane' to 'there's an easier way' though. Interesting

I've tried to think about Earth from an outsider's point of view a few times, and I'd have trouble thinking that an advanced civilization would arrive at any other conclusion than, "Remain unseen."

Most of us here are exceptional. We wouldn't make knee-jerk reactions. But if you look at humanity's history as a whole, and how we typically treat anything as "different" that we are, I wouldn't blame any extraterrestrial race for wanting to remain "anonymous," hiding behind a cloak of myths and delusions. People are prone to go into panic mode at the drop of a hat. There's no denying that. So while the golden goose, "we are not alone" announcement sounds awesome in theory, in practice, it would probably be a political disaster.

Of course, that's not to say that a government or two might not know that something is going on. This bit of news which showed up on numerous sources, I found to be particularly... odd.

Absolutely not!

Assuming any species capable of becoming space-fairing will have dominated their own planet, it's also safe to assume they want nothing from me but knowledge on how to dominate those like me. "What are the weaknesses of the dominate species on Earth? Oh - all you have to do is cut its trachea... that's easy."

Meanwhile I'm on a lab table with a cut trachea. What a fun alien excursion that was.
