I'm Canadian. I Spocked 17 fives last year and have a box devoted to Spocked fives. I tried to use one once and got a very strange look from the cashier.

I guess people are drawing on the Canadian five dollar bill to make Sir Wilfrid Laurier look like Spock. (Not everyone is doing it, obviously. I am Canadian and I didn't know about it until I read this thread.)

The new bills are made from a plasticy material but there are still older bills in circulation. The "spocked" bill in the image above is an older bill. The new bills look like the one below. They have an image of the ISS' Canadarm on the back which, in my view, is cooler than Spock graffiti.

Status turns to illegal when a certain degree of the bill is ruined and that depends on the each country's laws, I guess. This is still a minor adjustment of the bill, although more serious than writing a phone number or a name.
