For those wondering if it's worth it to hold off on playing KSP until 1.0...

When 1.0 releases, I'll probably be playing in dual-mode again. .90 for my modded stuff, 1.0 for a semi-stock playthrough. (I'm sure some mods will still work... And even if they don't, that won't stop me duplicating and config-modding some parts.)

I only use a couple of mods and non are vital to how I play so I launch straight into updates.

Do people really hate the stock game so much that they'll refuse to touch the release version until all the mods are out?

I also will happily jump into 1.0 with no mods. Especially with the hinted-at-yet-oddly-unconfirmed addition of delta-V readouts in some form, I may actually be able to do a full unmodded career without tearing my hair out in frustration at the lack of information.

"Hate" is a strong word, but in its current state I have no desire to play this game without what I consider to be the "core" mods of:

DefaultThrottle: Mostly because I used it for a week and now if I don't have it installed I can't figure out why my ships won't launch.

Editor Extensions: Because I like actually having freedom when building my ships.

Enhanced Navball: Because I like my navball larger than stock, and off to the side so it's not in the way.

Kerbal Alarm Clock: Because I'm not a masochist.

Kerbal Engineer Redux: Because not having the ability to reach your destination AT THE LAUNCH PAD and not knowing it lost its "magic" over a year ago.

PreciseNode: If for no other reason than it allows me to kludge my way around the stock game not letting me put maneuver nodes in certain parts of the orbit. But being able to accurately add and remove velocity 1 m/s at a time (or less!) is a huge boon.

RCS Build Aid: Again, when building ships more information = better

Stock Bug Fixes: Because it fixes bugs in stock.

I cant help but ask :

Is the next version going to be v1.0? Did they say that they're releasing that next?

When the next version is released I'll be on it, no holding back this time. I stayed with .25 for about 3 months over because couple of the mods were such a poop to install and I was halfway through a career mode lol. By that I mean I'd arrived at minmus. ha

I don't play KSP on a daily basis, so a year is not much for me. Thats why I decided to not start anything big before 1.0 comes out. (I hope it will be in 2015.) Because I don't expect my old saves to properly work with the next version.

Until then I play around in sandbox mode and craft some crazy things. And after the first bugfix release (1.0.1 or 1.1) I will finally go for an all planet mission.

Actually I quite agree, and use everything except Default Throttle. I'll fumble around in stock for a week or two, but after that I really want those mods. Most of them probably only need a recompile though, seem to remember them being pretty quick to catch up with 0.90 :)

Tbh, with only Eeloo and Tylo as yet unvisited in my career game, I'm wondering whether to just timewarp some probes there, call this round 'complete' - then start up a new career with the outer planets mod installed and see how far it gets before 1.0 arrives. Or do I wait for 1.0, and then for outer planets to be updated for it...? Indecision is a terrible thing, especially with mods that really do need to be there from the start :(

Does any one know about the "aerodynamics" being introduced? I tried FAR and have reverted to NEAR as FAR is way too frustrating for me. I really hope 1.0 isn't going to be like FAR cos if it is I will be sticking with 0.90.

Sorry peeps only just found this http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/content/325-Overhauled-Aerodynamics my bad

Well !!, I've almost given up on this game... V1.0 should be a free upgrade for my troubles :sticktongue: and $$$.

KSP is a great concept and can be a great hit, but at the moment it's implementation is.... no comment !!

As for aerodynamics and simulation in general the Devs should take an example from the 'best' sim to date..

DCS - not perfect but very smooth game play and no problems (I think I've had it crash only once in a year of playing)

(Note: - This sim has a lot of number crunching to do - KSP should be far faster/smoother than this sim  )

To put it plainly.. KSP is not going to 'crack it' unless it goes low level language development (C++ and under)

Gooood luck..:(

...Gooood luck..:(

  1. KSP probably isn't for people who give up easily.
  2. v1.0 WILL BE a free upgrade, as they all have been.
  3. Ok, so you paid a small amount of money to try a game. What 'troubles' did it cause you?
  4. Squad have also said free upgrades will continue past 1.0.
  5. Please check your NDA. If you're talking about the aerodynamics we're about to get, you probably shouldn't be. If you aren't, then you don't know how good or bad it'll be.
  6. That KSP isn't like some arbitary other programme doesn't make it 'no comment', it makes it different.
  7. Obviously we're all wrong to enjoy it though, thanks for telling us, 'cause we hadn't noticed in our thousands of hours play.
  8. What example is this 'best' flight-simulator meant to set?
  9. If it's a flight-simulator for pre-built craft, why are you sure it's crunching more numbers than KSP?
  10. There is pretty much zero chance KSP will ever be written from scratch in a high-level language (assembler would be an example of a low-level language).
  11. I think the rest of the market has plenty of room for software with fairly simplistic graphics.
  12. Good luck when you find Space Kerpow 27, or whatever you're looking for.

I don't care for the mods, I'm quite happy playing stock.

The reason I'm not playing however is any career progression is going to be severely disrupted by the new version, and any vehicle designs I tweak for reusability in sandbox mode will need tweaking once I find out if the launch stage can survive re-entry. I suspect heat-shields will prove too much of a practical bugbear for many designs and missions, especially for anything intended to be reusable.
