Couple question from a beginner.

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am playieng for a week, but have some questions:

1. IS it possible to get back kerbals, wich orbiting in space (my fault )? Is it possible to recover and refund parts which orbiting in space?

2. Is it possible to attach 2 decoupler or girder seqment to both details (connect them)? My problem is when i connect via decoupler another engine to other i cant attach properly another decoupler to get stable rocker.

1. For Kerbals, absolutely. Just send up a better ship with an extra seat :) . Or if your stranded ship has a docking port you can launch a refueling mission.

It's possible to recover orbiting debris as well (for example by grabbing with a docking claw or trapping in a cargo bay) but even if your ship is 100% resusable you may spend so much on the fuel to reach the parts that it's just not worth it.

2. Hard to tell what you're trying to do from the description, but what you may be running into is the fact that all parts have to "branch" from a root, typically in only one direction.

What ever you're trying to do, 'moar struts' will cover up a wide range of problems. For example, if you can get the parts arranged kind of the way you want them but can't connect them together using the nodes, you can always stitch the parts together using some combination of EAS-4 Struts and Cubic Octagonal struts.

Good luck, and welcome to the forums!

Yes, you can send up another ship, and rendevous with your other kerbal or ship.

You can have empty seats in your ship, and the kerbal in space can get in and come back to Kerbin.

For the fund recovery from parts, it is unlikely to be profitable, but in certain circumstances it may work. If the ship in orbit is really expensive and has a peraspsis of 70km for instance... and it already has parachutes and everything else it needs to land, then it would be pretty cheap to send up a jet powered SSTO and nudge the other ships perapsis down into the atmosphere, where the expensive ship can then aerobrake, deorbit, and land for recovery.

Recovering ships that can't land on their own is more tricky, but it can be done profitably for now, due to the extreme efficiency and effectiveness of turbojets

2) No, its a game engine limitation... I wish I could do what you want as well

2. Is it possible to attach 2 decoupler or girder seqment to both details (connect them)? My problem is when i connect via decoupler another engine to other i cant attach properly another decoupler to get stable rocker.

Thanks for reply. I mean i cant attach second grider. Like this: https://yadi.sk/i/ZNiLxieLfBPrP

Yes, that's just what I thought. The node-to-node path must run linearly. It can branch but it cannot loop. You are trying to go from Mk1 cockpit-->LFB#1-->girder#1-->LFB#2-->girder#2-->LFB#1 and that's not allowed. What you CAN do, though, is use EAS-4 struts to close the loop between girder#2 and LFB#1.

You can attach a second girder, but it doesn't actually attach... it just sits there. I tried that in the past, thinking it would help stabilize things, but all it did was cause problems for me ... in my case, it actually caused a fuel tank to explode.

I don't know your end-goal here, but here's a very solid solution I've used (still use) with big construction. It's very strong and stable, and it makes for clean break-away of large stage stuff without the need for Sepatrons.

I found a reason - i clicked on a whole module, not on a "hatch window".. (door with a cross)

Yes, clicking on the hatch does bring up the options for EVA and Transfer ... and Transfer is the easiest way. Of course, you could also try something more bold and go EVA and fly your Kerbal to where you want him. Sometimes that can be fun as well as a challenge, plus it gives you a really good up-close and personal view of your station/ship. Try it!

The 2 engines connected by those 2 trusses does not work (as others before me said) but if you use the strut (the one that's just called a strut) instead you get a rock-solid attachment in just the way you want.

sure, but it cant estrange engines in this case (i mean 2 decouplers between engines could do this welll).

I'm not sure what you mean. "Estrange" means to alienate someone, usually purposefully. Do you mean decouple them from each other?

2 decouplers would have the same problem as 2 modular girder segments. The first would connect but the second would not.

Yes, estrange=decouple for me. English is not my native laguage.

And i found another problem - is it possible to get another planet (Duna for example) without using mechjeb. I mean i was trying to do it in vanilla, but trajectory was not obvious, line end draws slightly after Kerbin, so how in this case should i adjust my trajectory? By random dragging maneuvr node?

You need to up your Conic Patch Limit. If you have PreciseNode installed you can crank it up in there, but if not you can edit the config file for KSP and change it there. Find, in your KSP directory, the file named settings.cfg and copy it (just in case), then edit it and find where it says:

CONIC_PATCH_LIMIT = 3

All that does is gives you more lines when it's drawing your predicted orbit through different planets' SOIs.

Or, if you're playing career, you need to upgrade both your Mission Control and Tracking Station 1 each to get patched conics and maneuver nodes.
