Ok, so maaaaaybe I might be working on something again.

Well, I suppose if anyone can make Manley Girley, you can do it. *Munches popcorn* I assume you're shooting for Plaid Speed?

Yeah, brother. I figure the best way to go about it at the fastest time is a ship that can boost constantly, both to and fro. I'm still experimenting to make that happen, and I'm trying really really hard to NOT use atomics or the new big stacks and engines, but that's what I'm going for.

Side note: Decided that I'd probably yet again need custom seperatrons. So I pulled my old design out of my dusty mental filing cabinet, and did a few changes.

80kn seperatron. Should be sufficient. And if it isn't, I can just tack on a few more. I know that this is technically clipping, but it's done for aesthetic reasons, rather than performance ones. Hope that's fine with everyone. And I did a test of them. And hey!

I totally forgot about the destructables! The rocket I was testing is gone, but the Seperatron Superstar did it's job just fine!

#EDIT: And I have all kinds of respect for Manley man. You might not know this, but his youtube videos pretty much started my career. It's how I learned how to orbit and dock. :)

And here's a screenshot of the Munar lander I'm using. Those are drop tanks at the top. I wanted to ensure I can come in for a hot landing and hit a little hard, so to test that, I made the landing gear robust enough to hold all that weight with full tanks under normal Kerbish gravity.

You may have to wait until whomever is attacking steam is done for the screenshot to show up. Sorry.

I know my opinion doesn't count for much, but I'm firmly in the camp of 'bouncing counts' here. Soft landings? Who has time for that?

Well, I'm planning on actually landing on the Mun, planting a flag, and still beating the 60 minute mark. 30 minutes would be nice, but I have no idea if that's even possible. I'm on totally new ground, here.

Of course if I tried it, my space ship would fail and my compute would melt.

I literally did that once. Fried the processor right out of my old machine. I was offline for like two months. Or one month. I forget how long it was. That was a while ago.

#EDIT: Ok, so the first attempt was a hilarious failure. But my engineering chops seem to be still fairly robust, despite the rust. I need an engine group. But gotta do it without clipping. Off to design more!

#EDIT2: Got a booster cluster with 13 mainsail engines. Very nice. And it is NOT clipped! I promise screenshots when Steam stops having problems.

There was a challenge a while ago about landing on the Mun as quickly as possible with as little fuel as possible. Absolute fastest, without regards for fuel, was under 45 minutes, but that only required about 61k LF. I'm interested in what you'll come up with. That challenge, btw, was here.

Decided to use this for my main thrust systems. Mainsail cluster without clippin'.

Robust enough to sit on its engines.

And it moves pretty well. Upward reentry effects, I've missed you.

Next order of business: Rip that cluster off, build the intermediate drives (much longer burn, less thrust, for continuous mode), and a lander drive. Though this can probably double for that.

So here's the fun part. Just gonna add columns in mirror vegetable mode, brace it all, and fire it and see how it do.

Getting the fuel bus wired.

And here I am struggling to get a Mun-base to the Mun because my launcher is too weak...

It's all good, brother! Building big is something I spent a looot of time on. All of it, really. When this build is done, I'll provide the file. Grab it, rip it to pieces, learn all my secrets.

#EDIT: Turns out my little 80 thrust seperatrons weren't anywhere near sufficient. So to the surprise of nobody, I've gone bigger.

Meet the Seperatron Superstar M:

A mainsail on a two second burst ought do it.

#EDIT2: Woooo!

Now THAT is a seperatron!
