Jeb's Inspiration.

I'm making my first machinisma (first EVER, I chose KSP for it, wooot), and I'm having problems with the script, most likely because I don't have an idea what motivated Jeb to start KSC in the first place. I went the "I had a dream to walk on the Mun" route, but for some reason that didn't seem Jeb-ish. I tried extending his personality currently to back then, which seemed to turn him into an arrogant blockhead, ("I started KSC to serve as my personal thing") and I didn't want that either. So I need help. What in your eyes motivated Jeb to start KSC? Note, it has to do with the Mun because in the first scene (Jeb narrating), he's staring at the Mun on the beach.

To be honest, I don't see Jebediah as head of the space program; Gene takes that role. To me, Jebediah is just the best Kerbonaut the space program has. One idea for having Jebediah join the space program is because he runs the company "Jeb's Junkyard," a supplier of the space program. Being trusted by the space program for his cooperation, Jebediah is accepted in as a recruit. Maybe he could be the first Kerbal on the Mun. ;)

Put Jeb through some hairy Nam'-style military tour; maybe the air force. Possibly a daredevil gone spokesperson for "Jebediah Kerman's" Junkyard and Spaceship parts Co. Leaving his crummy b-list celebrity status and beat up trailer behind for a more meaningful career in space exploration.

Bill, Bob and Jeb were all pilots from the beginning. Bob had been selected to become the first Kerbal in space, but got cold feet at the very last moment. Terrified of the rocket and the general idea of going to space, he asked his friend Jeb to do it for him - which worked because all Kerbals look exactly the same.

Jeb agreed, adorably oblivious to the potential danger. The rocket blasted off into the sky, and no one noticed anything unusual until he had already reached orbit and happily exclaimed that he could see "Bob's house" from his window. He had not received any training whatsoever and was immediately ordered to return to Kerbin with the help of a few instructions that were sent to him through the on-board fax machine.

To everyone's surprise, Jeb's capsule landed intact in the ocean outside the KSC, and he could be rescued and taken in for questioning without any trouble. However, no one ever found out what Bob had done, because all Jeb would talk about was how he wanted to do it again.

Since the space program was new and they were short on qualified pilots anyway, Jeb was offered a job there on the very next day.
