Eve - No parts support such planet

Recommended Posts

Why hasnt anyone made some Eve friendly parts to use for manned mission there? The pressures there are so bad that stock parts blow up and all mods also use the same mechanics. Just kinda of a drag if the only planet to take Kerbal is Duna.

There are plenty. Did you look? Examples: Propellers that work in all atmospheres. Inflatable ships. Jets that run in non-oxygen atmospheres. There are tons of mods that support gameplay on Eve.

Many people, self included, have done stock missions just fine on Eve. Eve is one of the hardest places to return from, but it is definitely possible and fun with stock parts. I don't know what you are talking about with stock parts blowing up.

Perhaps you should try Laythe next. I think all the planets are fun to land on and return from (excluding Jool - that's flirting with disaster). But Laythe is somewhat more similar to Kerbin than Duna, and exists in an exotic environment. Plenty to see and do around Jool.

Parts are blowing up on vessel reloads after they have landed. Not only that, KJR is worthless in handling Eve. I dare take Kerbal Joint off, but that would not be the point of keeping joints stable. Unless I have a faulty copy of the game (someone pulling a joke on me on Steam) I cant really explain why this is happening. I dont buy into stock parts performing "fine" on Eve. Not with those pressures. Unless you can post a video proving you are doing this without cheating. Thank god this is the last mission of the career. Wont be back until the devs start fixing this game hardcore for 1.0

Not sure what you mean, most of my vessels have been ok there.

Well, some of them.

This is not correct. I have done multiple missions to Eve with stock parts without problems.

Under what circumstances are you having parts blow up?

Happy landings!

Sorry, but sounds to me like you didn't build a strong enough ship and you're blaming the parts for your troubles. The fact you rely on a mod to reinforce your joints is a good indicator of this. No one should need to post a video here to satisfy you; a quick look at the Eve Rocks Challenge thread and several other sources on this forum will show you that a great many players have landed on Eve with completely stock ships, and not had them blow up even on reloads. A small but significant subset of those players have even managed to get back to orbit.

Why not post a picture or .craft of your ship? (the non-exploded version) There may be something you've missed in the design that your fellow rocket scientists can help you with.

Alternatively, download one of the many .craft files of stock Eve ships available on the forum and see if that one works in your game.

That is not an attitude that is conducive to getting any sort of help. Don't accuse all of us who have successfully done Eve return with stock parts of cheating, especially when a cursory search will show you lots of working examples (you can even download craft files and try them yourself!). Stock parts work fine on Eve if you build your craft to survive its harsh environment, I suspect your vessel wasn't up to the chore.

But hey, if you'd rather think that the game is broken and all of us are cheating to make you feel better about struggling with one of the game's big challenges, don't let me stop you.

Are you sure you haven't got got Eve and Jool mixed up? On Jool pretty much every craft blows up when you go deep into the atmosphere. On Eve however i have never had anything blow up in the atmosphere, only when i hit the ground.

When I start bumping up against the "wall" I just take a different approach... including scrapping a craft design. The times I cant get something to work always boils down to poor craft design on my part, sometimes compounded by poor flying technique. This game is fun for me because its hard, it FORCES me to overcome and adapt.

That part of OP's description made me think he might have mixed up the two too.

As for OP's actual problem, it looks like it'S a design one. There's nothing inherently different with Eve than with Kerbin. Just supped up numbers. Their gravity is even similar. In stock aero, it might prove to be insanely difficult to launch to orbit from Eve's surface (even worse if from a low altitude surface point) but it's not impossible with a bit of experience and/or looking up what other people have done.

Some people have done double return missions out of a single launch (Initial launch to orbit, to eve, land, launch back again to orbit, to kerbin, launch again, to eve, land, launch, to kerbin, recover).

Psst... the planet is named "Eve"...

If you're typing EVE, people might think you're referring to the EnvironmentalVisualEnhancements mod, or a MMO named "EVE Online".

Or a great prog rock album.
