I have bad news and I have good news. The bad news is that my short-lived KSP series will have to end and start all over because of 1.0. The good news is that I am certainly planning to make my 1.0 series better than before, and I have started roadmapping ideas for other games on the channel. For more information, see my channel update at

Also, I am a bit worried by the lack of suggestions. Remember, I always need suggestions so I can improve my videos and make them more enjoyable to watch:D

Okay, KSP ep1 (take 2) has been recorded, but I still need feedback from my previous series. What could have made my videos better? What should I talk about? Should I talk more or less? Should my videos be longer or shorter? Should my editing be less choppy? Should I have subtitles sometimes? Should I do a modded series? Should I act funny or serious? I NEED feedback and suggestions!!!

I don't have the bandwith right now to watch it in its entirety,( see "I forgot KSPs most important lesson" in the Space Lounge:P) but I did skim through it.

So, here are my thoughts at 3 in the morning.

As to personality, be yourself. Trying to hard to be funny can end up being grating.

To connect better with your audience, might I suggest a facecam in the corner? Unless you're being hunted by Interpol or something. (your current editing, and remember I could not watch it in its entirety, so I may be missing something here, it seemed more like a live playthrough)

If you are going for a smoother, edited look, overlapping transitions scenes to edit out build errors and focus on the major steps of building the rocket. Again a facecam for at least part of the time might work here as well. With this though, I think you should on your voice overs be a bit more scripted, as IMO, that would fit the more edited look.

If you're going more for a 'live' feel, warts and all, then I think you're ok the way it is for the most part. You're pleasant to listen to, but I feel you'll connect better if we see at least an occasional glimpse of you.

An overall theme perhaps? Learning to be a rocketman, interplanetary missions, mining, satellite relay networks, spectacular failures, (my specialty!) or ?

I liked the title of your video. I generally liked your video, but it does need some polish and direction.

Sorry I couldn't watch it all the way through. There is a lot of competition, I hope you find your niche, best of luck.

Oh, and I vote modded, at least with EVE, to give Kerbin that wonderful clouded look, maybe chatterer, which adds a bit of life to the game. Go with what you like to do in the game and play it the way you like to. The easiest way to be original is to be yourself. Nothing guarantees success, but personally I would rather be an original failure, (my short lived music 'career') than a copycat success.

Okay, new problem: my demographics thing says there have been a few comments on my first video, yet when I look at the comment section for that video it is blank, as if nobody has commented. Why cant I see my comments?

First of, and I say this without seeing any of your video's, you have to be patient. You see nog comments because there are no comment. Your video's have 7 views max. I think one of the first steps is to make your channel look nicer, have a thumbnail/logo, and make a banner so your channel will look somewhat more inviting.

Second, try to find a specific title which no one allready uses, because "KSP ep 1, ep 2" etcetera is widely used and someone looking for KSP related video's will never find you when they use that as a search.

all this is part of your identity, invest a lot of time in this, be yourself and choose some kind of "theme" in your videos. Scott Manly got so many views not only because he is someone who is around for a long time, but also because his video's are more like a "how to" and in dept manner of playing. He's got his own style.

But be patient, upload in a consistent way and not more than a week and a half apart from eachother.

This is just a very small part of a succesfull YouTube channel, it takes a lot of effort and time!

Why should you believe me? I study Online marketing and this is one of the subjects (Sorry for my bad English btw ;) ) Good luck

Thank you for the input.

Firstly, are you saying my demographics things is lying to me? It probably is.

Second, I have been planning to add a logo/channel wallpaper thing/thumbnails. I just don't have the time right now.

Third, my videos do have a short phrase before the ep number. You are probably only referring to my first 2 videos.

Fourth, my identity will certainly be there, it just hasn't had its time to shine yet.

Fifth, I am patient, especially since my only youtube rival is progressing very slowly as well.

Sixth, My supposed unoriginally will change once other games make their way onto my channel. You have not seen anything yet.

Seventh, and most importantly, I need suggestions for what games to play and what mods to use (if any) on my KSP series.

I don't know what you mean by demographics thing? Maybe the amount of views? If so i'm Sorry, you have 49 views max, my fault. As for the other things:

2nd: Try to do that asap, since people who visit your channel would want to see what your channel is about, right away. Not by looking at your videos, but directly by looking at your videos. Looking at your intentions, it has to do something with gamng, offcourse.

3rd: The short phrase says nothing about you, it says something about what's happening in the video. Take a look at some other YouTubers, for instance, Tobuscus, when he does a series, he puts exactly the same thing in every title, followed by a short descrition/ep number.

4th: It should be shining right away. That how people see the differences between eachother. You have for example the gamers who want to take the most out of the game, fungamers, analysing gamers, etc. etc. What is your identity? what do you want the people to know and what is your unique way of doing that?

5th: Who is your YouTube rival then? There are A LOT of people who do exactly the same as you.

6th and seventh: Why ask us, it is your channel, you should do what you like. (and since you're asking this on a KSP forum offcourse people will say KSP)

I would do it right away but I can barely even record/edit/upload my videos with all the assignments and tests coming up. Expect big improvements during the holidays.

My friend harry, also known as ThatHarryGuy. We have already begun a youtube arms race to see who can amass popularity faster. He currently has 6 subs. He may not do KSP but, still, rivalry.

I like it when people say this, but remember that this channel is as much about me as it is about my subs and what they want.

Oh damn I misread the title. I thought you said you were going to make video games not game videos! :P

But either way, this is a KSP forum so the answer is always going to be KSP, but you knew that anyway right? Just needed someone to justify the selection to you? :)

About your rival, I understand now. Well when you're out of examns and you have school vacation take the time to upload video's and make your channel look nicer and take in mind the things I summed up. Also, be sure to share the video's on this channel and you'll be good to go ;)

Good luck!

Okay, a few new things that are needing of discussions:

- I have come up with the idea of a fortnightly cycle of recording, editing and uploading. It basically works like this:

Week A Mon-Fri: Do other things

Week A Sat/Sun: Record 1 or 2 vids

Week B Mon-Fri: If possible, start editing vids

Week B Sat: Edit vids and get them ready for uploading

Week B Sun: Upload vids

Now I need to know if this system is a good idea. It is the only configuration I can come up with that takes into account my schoolwork as well as my other things. But I need your opinion.

- Since I often loose track of time and half-hour videos are tiring to edit, I have an idea that the moment I start recording I turn on a 20-minute alarm clock or something, and when it goes off I end my video. Again, it works in theory, but would it work in reality?

- Okay, im going to come out and admit I cannot create a good channel wallpaper/video thumbnail that I like. Help would be appreciated.

- As usual, I love hearing feedback and want to know what other games I should have on my channel. Minecraft, Civilisation V, Superpower 2, FOTW, Democracy 3, Star citizen and Plague inc evolved are all already confirmed to be on my channel at some point.

In my experience 1 hour of recording gives 20-30 minutes of video, possibly less. This is for KSP. For most any other game it's far better. KSP just has *so* *much* stuff to edit out it's crazy. Just editing out time warping isn't enough IMO. After 3 or 4 ejection burns people are going to get bored.

Your schedule sounds fine, and it's similar to mine though I can pretty much record any day of the week. I tend to record whenever I can, and fit editing in during those times when I can't record but have down time.

Mostly you just have to do it, and see. Nobody can tell you if you'll have enough time to do that but you. One strong suggestion I have is to drop the idea of a schedule until you know how much you can do. YOu may find you can put out 2x the videos you are planning, or that 2 videos is way too much and you can only do 1 a week, or less. Another thing I suggest is to - once you know roughly how often you can expect to get a video out - to not just publish videos but to utilize the "Schedule" option in YouTube. Upload 2 videos, but schedule the 2nd one to come out 3-4 days from now. That way, you'll have 1 video every 3-4 days instead of 2 videos at once and a week before the next thing comes out.

I would not do two videos at the same time. It is a good way of not being able to learn from doing the previous one between videos. Just do one and see how it works out and what the responses are. And remember, content, content, content. Just making a video is not interesting to anyone.

Okay, good news! The channel is now up and running with a stable growth pattern. Now I want to get into the more technical stuff, so can somebody tell me:

- How do I make/add/edit video thumbnails?

- How do I make a better icon/channel wallpaper?

I try to make my videos so that at the point where the title is on the screen, there is at least one frame that looks like what I want my thumbnail to be. Then I just do a "make this frame an image" in my video editing software. For KSP videos it's a bit more involved but not much. At some point during recording I take a screenshot and then just paste it into my video editing software in the above location, take the screenshot, then put the video back for exporting.

Regarding channel icon/wallpaper/etc, I used Inkscape to make my HMV graphic and didn't bother with the rest. People are there to watch my videos, not see what busy, ugly background I replaced the nice, clean YouTube page with.

Not to be a hard-ass, but are these not questions easily solved by using Google search?
