Is it okay to routinely close game using Alt + F4

Recommended Posts

I would be concerned that alt-f4 during the automatic saving process could corrupt your save. However, if you hit F5 to quicksave, let that finish, and then Alt-F4 a corupted persistent file could be fixed by just copying the quicksave.sfs over the persistent.sfs.

There is no other danger that I can think of. In fact, I exit the current save and as soon as I'm at the menu, alt-f4 out. I've never had a problem doing that.

I have also been closing the program by hitting the red x in the top corner to close window. I play in window mode.

It autosaves when you change the scene, say change vessel or go to space center and i find it autosaves randomly during flight.

I quicksave from time to time but I know so long as im looking at KSC it will continue the game from there when i get back. I must have done that thousands of times playing with a handful of mods, i've never experienced corrupt save :)

The game autosaves as has been described. Basically any time the game is advancing time (at the KSC screen, in-flight, in the tracking station, etc...) the game may do one of its periodic saves (you can specify the periodic save interval). It is possible to exit in the middle of this save and corrupt it.

However, places where time doesn't advance (i.e. in the editors, main menu, ...) it is generally safe to ALT+F4 out. I often exit from the editor and haven't had a problem.

Cheers,

Just to back up Claw, I exit to menu, then end process; never had a corrupted save in three months of it :)

(Btw, devs, pay attention; when people find quitting the game so painful that they don't bother doing it properly, it means it's time for a quicker route!)
