I’m so conflicted!

I have been working on my massive Joolian Exploratory Fleet for months! Designing, building, planning, lots and lots of planning! 13 ships, 3 space stations, over two dozen landers, rovers, planes, boats!, SSTO Seaplanes (four of them!) a budget of 6,000,000 funds!

Everything has been designed, built, and tested. I’m halfway through orbital construction of the Fleet (6 of the 13 ships are done) departure in 45 days!

Because of all of this, I never upgraded to 0.9.

And now: Monday!

New aero, heat shields! Resources! And I never did get into those new MK3 parts, Kerbal skillz or the new VAB.

I’m so conflicted! Part of me wants is stubbornly continue with 0.25, I’ve made my plans and want to execute them! While the same time my mouth is watering over the new features, and fewer bugs.

So I’m taking votes:

What should I do?

A. Give up, scrub the mission and start over in 1.0.

B. Continue and visit 0.25 Jool. 1.0 will still be there when you’re done.

That's some supreme dedication! I've never been able to put together quite such a huge mission. I say go for it, write up an awesome mission report, and let your pre-release career go out with a bang! Are you playing stock? One of my first goals in 1.0 is to do the Jool-5 in stock, now that all those pesky mods I need are part of the base game :D

Or you could play your Jool mission IN 1.0... You can upgrade saves to newer versions... You are not trying to convert .8 to 1.0... Your converting .25 to 1.0. Finish the Jool mission then deliberately enjoy the features of 1.0 (since your experience re-entry effects and atmo effects).

All Stock. (well, alarm clock, and I used hyperedit ONCE during lander testing)

We've talked about this, Upgrading would break most of my ships, my kerbals would have no skills, etc etc etc.

Is it a stock mission ?

If It's not, you might try to do it as modder would take some time to adjust to 1.0

If it's stock, you could try to tune your rockets for 1.0, have some trials on Kerbin to test landers.

I recently ended a mission (bit smaller) as you want to do. A 13 launch mission for a space station built around Laythe with 5 SSTO-rockets landers (+1 staged for Tylo) and enough fuel capacity to do 4 trips to each moons (half of ships were orange tanks). It was great, and it took me a while. I collected 41000 science points (including the 6 probes mission which was a separate launch in the same window).

If I were in your sitation, I would tune my designs and play it as 1.0.

Only reason I'll be jumping on 1.0 is because I took a bit of a break from KSP over the last few weeks. If I was still in the grips of a big 0.90 career mission, I'd halt updates until I'd gotten it done. For one thing, if you play with mods, it'll be days/weeks before they catch up for 1.0, which sounds like time enough to complete your mission from the stage you're at :)

Don't scrub the mission. I will still be playing on 0.90 for a while after 1.0 releases, simply because I just started a new game, and I've learned from experience to wait until all my mods are fully up-to-date before proceeding with an upgrade.

You've put all that time and effort into the mission, and you've been having fun doing so. What's the point in throwing away the fun of completing the mission just because KSP is being updated? I've got copies of every version of KSP I've played in their own folders, and there's one game from 0.23 with a nice little base on Minmus (using the Kethane mod that I still revisit now and then. I suspect that if you dont complete that mission, you'll always regret it.

Anyway - whatever you decide to do - have fun! And I , for one, would love to see a write up of your Joolian mission!

Well that is a conundrum. I can see where you don't want to walk away from your investment, but OTOH you aren't even on the .9 release. How much do you get to play? If it's something you can finish in a month, then by all means do your mission. If you don't see yourself finishing this mission for 6 months, then let it go and dive into 1.0.

Same boat. I'm way way behind (probably over a year since I've had any substantial progress and uploaded the mission reports). I'm determined to finish my ongoing Jool mission (rescue mission to Tylo).

I simply saved the entire KSP installation and have been playing that even when new upgrades came out that I played in parallel.

I think you should set your Jool project aside and go to 1.0. Then if down the line you feel like finishing it then do it, otherwise it probably wasnt that important to you anyway so move on. Even with just 0.9 and 1.0 you are missing out on a lot.

Well, first of all the million dollar question: are you planning to aerobrake on Jool ( or Laythe ) ? If you are, you'll most likely need to retrofit all the ships due to the new aerodynamics. If you aren't ... well, as you said, your kerbals will have no experience , but that is not a issue in sandbox or science mode.

I voted "scrub". I scrubbed mine, and am spending my VERY small amount of play time these days working on ship and lander concepts that I think will work in v1.

The main reason I think you should scrub is that let's face it, like me and almost all the rest of us you are going to post your mission report in the Forum and sit back hoping for praise, adulation and maybe even a little +rep. I'll be so bold as to say you fall into the camp of valuing this validation, or else you might not have asked several thousand total strangers for their opinions on this subject :) So how are you going to feel when in a week or two you finish your 0.25 vintage Jool-5 mission, you're feeling pumped, but the whole focus of discussion on the challenge thread is around how much harder/easier it is now to aerobrake though Jool to Laythe, and whether it's OK to mine Bop for fuel on the way home, or whatever? You won't be playing the same game as everyone else so the mission you worked so hard on might not get the attention and respect it deserves.

My 1/50 of a Fund, and the reason I won't be launching for Jool until Valentina Kerman graduates from Kerbfleet Academy.

Or you could download 1.0 and copy over your save file and disable the new aerodynamics (a "switch" toggling between the new and old aerodynamics was mentioned in some stream) and reentry effects (apparently there's going to be a difficulty setting for it, so presumably you can turn it off) and see what happens.
