A short cinematic as I'm excited at the huge milestone in KSP history - 1.0 :D

Hi All,

Like everybody else I'm thoroughly excited about 1.0 being almost here! Here's my contribution to the milestone. It's just a short cinematic but I hope you all like it. I've done it using a combination of my two favourite games/sims - KSP and Space Engine. Also a Massive thank you to Squad for making such an awesome game!! I suggest watching in HD quality.

:)

Nice video, but a few things:

1) Massive copyright violation off the bat. Seriously.

2) Other star systems aren't "Solar" systems. That's ours, because our sun's name is Sol.

3) Some typos. ("Despatched", "brining", "its")

4) No sound in space.

1) Where's the copyright violation? Both Squad and the creator of Space Engine allow video footage of their respective software to be uploaded.

2) 'Solar System' is a common term to describe any star system.

3) 'Despatched' is an actual word. It is the past tense of the act of sending something somewhere.

4) That's just being picky. We all know there's no sound in space.

On Topic: I still maintain my belief that KSP running in Space Engine would be the best thing ever.

Good video.

Thanks for the comments all, Yes as mentioned above Squad and the creator of Space Engine allow video footage of their respective software to be uploaded, Of course all copyrights are owned by the respective developers and I make no claim to this other than the work I did to develope a short story and record/post edit the video and add effects. :)

Yes that was my meaning of the use solar system, so that those not familiar with scientific definitions would be understand the meaning.

Yes despatched is a word (I'm english, I know Americans like to make words to 'look the same as they sound' :)http://www.thefreedictionary.com/despatched :)

All the engines in the KSP universe make sounds in space

I do appreciate all comments/suggestions/criticisms etc

Ok, some points:

- Despatched is a typo - the correct way to spell that word is dispatched.

- Just as there is a difference between a moon, and the Moon; or a sun and the Sun; there can be other solar systems, but they are not *the* solar system.

- This doesn't really fit with the theme of a KSP 1.0 release.

Thereis no combat. Also, physics are very good in this game - so to have a cinematic for the game with some Sci-Fi B movie "We've lost engines, we're losing altitude" as if you need your engines to stay up... isn't very good IMO.

^ Yeah that. The copyright issues is in your channel logo. I recommend changing it before catching the attention of any WB employees ;)

The rest was good.

So long as he's not making any money does it matter? Copyright laws are trash anyway, there are so many loop holes. "Anything is free to use, but you cannot make money off of them. This case is true unless x, y, and z, but only if a, b, c, are blah blah blah, If this is the case then Y, B, and D need to have at least 7 sins, on 7 days, then be dunked in holy water...." the list goes on and on and on of....crap...

What's WB going to do anyway? Ask him to remove it? oh boy...

Anyway, onto the topic of the video itself.. It was very well done, people are being too cynical. Though I personally don't feel it really has anything to do with 1.0 release in and of itself. I'm not sure if that's what you were going for.

There's a difference between "Creating a cinematic movie in celebration for the 1.0 release" which suggests, and hints that the video is to do with what's in 1.0 and the victory of releasing a wonderful game. Which this video does not do.

Then there is a "I'm so excited the game is going into 1.0 I decided to make a cinematic video". Which is what this video does.

Very well made none the less, but it really has nothing to do with 1.0.. Especially with the sad ending (on a joyous occasion as 1.0 release), and mods which have nothing to do with KSP, and never will (Developers said weapons, etc. will never be in the stock game).

Whether or not I agree with the laws, they exist. That he's not making money (can have NO ads on the channel or screen when it occurs) can get away from some of the concerns. Most of the loopholes, as you put it, are for fair use laws for criticism of a particular item.

The reason I'm warning him isn't because I care if he borrows Wile E. or not. I happen to like the character. However, YouTube gets fascinatingly insane with copyright take down requests and you better be damned sure you're in the clear if you want to keep your channel up. I've had a claim put against my channel for part of a song that was being played outside my window by a slowly passing car and was (poorly) drowned out by my background music. It's messy to get released and strikes against your account sit there with significant impact. It's seriously not worth the hassle if you care about keeping a particular channel.

Hi,

Thanks for the comments, as with probably 90% of forum users (and I refer to the internet as a whole, not just KSP forum), there are a great number of people who use images as their avatars and/or signatures in some form or another which a probably subject to some form of copyright issue. And like many people I've used that image with my handle for many years (Under fair use?). If ever WB asked to me to stop using it then fine I would remove it. Not a problem.

But curiously, in this thread alone there are a number of other 'copyright infringements' - image.php?u=65483&dateline=1407512672 and image.php?u=73512&dateline=1382258463. But thats not what this thread was about

With respect to LadyAthena'spost, yes I get what your saying, obviusly as 1.0 has not been released there is nothing that is new in 1.0 that is in my video, it's done in .90 using some mods as well, but I refer to KSP as a whole and the fact that as mentioned before Squad have been so positive about people using KSP to not just play KSP but to create KSP cinematic style videos, I refer to the likes of Nassult, Momo, ABAthedude who inspire me to give it try myself.

Finally, from the Oxford English Dictionary:

dispatch verb

(British English also despatch)

Regards

EK.

One big issue is the whole loosing altitude part. Assuming a stable orbit from teh start, i dont see how its possible for altitude to be lost when there is a: no atmosphere on moho, b: no way BDArmory missiles could change the orbit of that large a craft enough to put it on a collision course.

Also, complaints about combat aside (many people feel combat ruins KSP style, personally i say who cares, i arm everything i deploy), i think some stock weapons mightve been cooler, or at least use those space rockets, as a sidewinder or whatnot isnt going to even work very well in space.
