Am I the only "Glass half full" guy around here?

How could it? You basically typed "KSP FORUMZ SUX REDDIT AWESOME" and then insulted the community here.

Look, it's literally the day of a major release forced through an ill-thought out deadline. Once the program is hotfixed, which I'm sure it will be, everything will calm down. Until then, if you can't handle the heat here, go read reddit or something. This is nothing new. Acting like everyone here is terrible and complaining or whatever is just creating more work for the mods.

If thats the case then I just want to say that I don't have an issue with this forum. I like this forum and the people here. I just feel like it has gotten more negative. I don't want to hate on anyone and I don't want it to seem like the reddit for the game is the only place someone should be going. I am seriously sorry if the way I wrote my posts contributed to more negativity on the board. Wasn't my intent. The game has issues the same way anything has issues and calling this 1.0 has lead to a lot of heated discussion. I seriously didn't mean to upset anybody.

Well, my 2 cents... KSP has been around for a long time now. In all that time there hasn't been an official roadmap or feature list the game will have. In the absence of such a thing people will start making their own assumptions of "what i KSP?", how 1.0 is going to be like. The more players you have and the more time you go before 1.0, the more people would have "guessed wrong". So at the end, you simply have more people that disagree with you, simply probability.

I for once, when I joined I was told we wouldn't have resources, then I was told we would, like a gazillion of them in fact, then we were told we wouldn't at least not the one previously shown, then we were told we were getting resource... Now, through all that time I made my mind and "guessed" what the devs were thinking... only to find out that I guessed wrong. Whether I take it like something that happens and it's not big deal, or I flip out and write a series of rage posts, that's another mater but I'd say that it falls under the "more people" category, the more you have the higher the probability of having individuals that are pissed off.

The new aero is absolutely amazing. I had a crossfeed issue where one of my four strap on boosters didn't have its fuel line attached to the sustainer and through brute forcing it in the 8-12 km altitude with fins I didn't have a complete mission failure from the resultant asymmetric flameout, just ended up in a highly inclined parking orbit.

That would have been a crash and revert to launch immediately in oldstock

Looking at it overall, this is an excellent release. The bugs are minor for an update of this magnitude. I'm sorry I complained so much initially, because they really did an amazing job on this one!:)

So many things the community has wanted for ages got added. After playing a bit more, the glitches seem really minor, and the features even more impressive.:D

Good work Squad. Sorry for being ungrateful.

there are a few bugs that need to be worked out and some thing balanced but overall it is a great update. For as large as this update was the problems are pretty small, hopefully be knocked out in a couple days

My god, this. What happened to this community? Constructive criticism is one thing, but this quote couldn't be more accurate: we really act like we hate the game sometimes.

I'm with you folks. Since .18, this forum feels like its full of trolls to me, just waiting to jump on things and complain about every tiny little thing they perceive. Not even constructive criticism, just 'I hate this so much!' stuff.

Oh, and I forgot to add... I'm loving 1.0 so far!! It's amazing, and the game feels so much more responsive. I've a low end system, but I even have some of the settings turned up higher and I'm getting better frame rates. I nolonger go slow motion during reentry effects, either.... allowing me to watch as bits of my ship explode! Wheee! :D

While I don't doubt they're there, I'm just gonna say that their number and influence are pretty minimal. Given the other game forums I lurk as a comparison.

I'm definitely enjoying it. I'm doing my normal vanilla run through a new update to get a feel for the base game. It's something I always like to do before I throw in the mods.

As for the community, it's been that way for awhile here and why I mostly stopped taking part in it. One of the biggest problems I've always noticed is that people forget why there are mods. When they don't make a mod a stock part of the game they get upset, which happens after every update. It never makes sense to me considering they gave us a way to make the game play how we want it. Half the people want X to be in the game, the other half don't. Hence, mods.

So.. mostly I just wanted to reply to note the occasion that Whackjob spoke to me directly. :D

You may be correct, but it feels a lot more negative around here than it did in the past, is all I'm saying. People seem to jump all over minor bugs and don't give credit where it's due... Squad made something amazing, I've played more KSP pre-1.0 than any other game. Possibly one of my most played games, and this includes classics that I still play, but much less due to ... well, KSP! Heh.

I still go into other games, and didn't play .90 as much once the announcement for 1.0 came out ( I didn't wish to burn out, wanted to be fresh and have fresh ideas for 1.0 ) but this is the game I come back to, due to its combination of resource management, long term planning, and pure exploration awesomeness. I do wish it had a little more random elements to it,... but really, that's minor compared to the fact that I've still yet to do much exploring Jool and past.

Ahh, so much to do!

The hype was so over the top that disappointment is inevitable.

I can't tell you how many times I've seen this over the last 20 years of my gaming experience.

Hype hype, when is release??!! Release now!!!

releases, wait 15 minutes....

this is broken! Bugs! Patch now.

When is patch??!! release patch now...

If I had a dollar for every time I've lived through that, I could buy a movie ticket, AND a large popcorn. And bring my son! Although we'd have to share the popcorn.

'tis why I don't hardly ever play a game on release day, or even release week.

There's lot of cool stuff, it's one helluva update.

My own negativity mostly comes from the 1.0 version number. This clearly isn't finished, and there's still plenty of obvious bugs oddities. Tweakables still have dead zones at the end, my booster-only first stage turns sideways because symmetrical connections are of unequal strength, Kerbals still slide off ladders, Mk3 parts fall apart if you give them a mean look. And of course, the inherently unstable Mk1 Pod.

The new content is fantastic but there are a ton of obvious problems that need ironed out. The list is so big I can't type it all out here. Mining, aerodynamics, heat, females etc. FANTASTIC! Things we have wanted to see for a long time. We cant simply ignore the problems though. If we dont point out what needs fixing they won't be or else they would not have released it like this in the first place. Im not a complaining self intitled prick I just want to see the game get better as it always has.

After just about every big update comes a smaller one that fixes the major problems, turning a halfbroken passable update into a gem.

People act as if 1.0 is radically different, I've had all the functionality of 1.0 since playing modded 0.24 (Except the mod functionality was moar detailed).

Not being negative, just the hype from the diehard fanbois isn't constructive.

In a technical sense, I am a "glass half empty" person, because in most circumstances the glass in question contains an aqueous fluid, which is in the process of evaporating into the atmosphere, and thus the glass is halfway on its way to becoming an empty glass.

But as far as KSP 1.0 goes, I knew there would be bugs all along. That was never a question. And I knew that some people, possibly including me, would overdose on hype and expect a game that was miraculously even more awesome than it actually is. A similar thing occurred when I first watched The Dark Knight: I expected a movie so godly that when I actually saw it I was disappointed, and didn't realize until a while later when my feelings had cooled off that it really ahd been an awesome movie.

So consider me "glass half full" for the purposes of this latest release ;) It's not perfect, but still awesome (and it didn't need to be perfect anyway).

I'm loving the update. Challenging again, and I'm liking that I have to relearn a lot of core skills I used to take for granted. The stuff that didn't change is still there, so at least it's not literally learning a brand new game (only about 20% of it).

overdose on hype

^ Nailed it.

On one hand, I like the new features.

But, on the other hand, I feel like Squad could have really benefited by calling this release .95 and taking a few more weeks to really polish it up.

It seems like most of the negativity is coming from that same place. If Squad had called it .95 vs 1.0, I doubt people would be as riled.
