Hooray!!! Finally I can put Scramjets back on my series!!!

EDIT: The new pulsjet engine is an absolute killer!!!

Btw, when the throttle is at 0, the sound continue to be heard, strong. Is this intended?

Thank you so much for the suggestion! That finally got it working. I have no idea why exactly it wasn't working before but it works now! Version 1.6 is now out with the XE-404 engine!

Praise the Kraken, he's returned.

One request though, can you add a radial mount intake to match your stack mount one?

Perhaps you could re use the model of the radial mount scramjet

Small suggestion: add some pure-ramjets that start at a lower airspeed than the scramjets, but which can be started at transonic or at least medium-high-subsonic speeds, and which work fine up until, say, flaming out at Mach 4 or a similarly safe portion above the minimum airspeed the scramjets need to be at to start and run?

I could definitely do this, though I wouldn't outright reuse the XE-202 model. That'd be lazy ;)

Eeh I'm not so sure about this one. The only use I can really imagine for these would be to get the XE-101 and 202 up to speed, which is a job that the XE-404 is more than capable of

This mod isn't showing up on CKAN for me. Has it not been updated on CKAN or is something else wrong?

KerbalStuff generally takes care of CKAN for me. So I can't really help you there. Sorry.

Hi! Just a few things to say.

1. This parts pack finally gave me the engines i needed to make a successful cargo SSTO for large and heavy payloads that can reach orbit under new voxFAR. At high altitudes other engines choke where pulsejets/ramjets simply shine.

2. I had to add Tweakscale support for parts to make them workable on my craft. All i did was add Tweakscale MM patch used for stock engines and intakes respectively.

3. I did notice that partially clipping (even if only "near" mesh) parts with pulsejets cause phantom forces on launch, i don't know if this is related to scaling, more specifically it was B9 proc wing clipping with exhaust

I like how engines each cover one stage of ascent (and by "stage" i don't mean separating, just switching) with enough overlap to secure transition from standard flight to suborbital trajectory.

Pulsejets pretty much haul for first part, providing plenty of thrust where its needed - at high altitudes my upscaled engines provided about 10MN of thrust (yes you read it right - MegaNewtons). And believe me, my craft needed every Newton of it.

@Nansuchao : i don't usually play with electric engines (after trying to have fun once with ion drives i gave up on entire thing), but i do have suggestion that adding intakes can positively affect efficiency up to some degree, after which it would degrade fast. If you look at radial type, it has its own intake, so stackable type should have either radially attached intakes (since front is reserved for attachment) or it should draw air from intakes attached elsewhere on craft.

I have noticed this as well. Unfortunately I couldn't come up with a satisfactory fix before the update deadline I set for myself. It's probably an issue with how Unity generates collision meshes. Once I'm back home from Japan I'll try to just make the collision mesh by hand and see if that helps.

.First off fantastic mod, I've had a ton of fun messing around with these new parts, secondly are you planning on adding any new engines? There is several kinds that haven't been made in any other mod. If you had the ambition you could try making:

A variable cycle engine: A variable cycle engine is a jet engine that can change its bypass ratio, allowing it to act like a low bypass turbo fan at low speeds, and a turbojet or. ramjet at high speeds. A well designed variant could go at least mach 4.2, and possibly mach 5.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/General_Electric_YF120

A super conducting electric prop or ducted fan: An electric prop that would have three times the thrust, half the energy consumption, and one third the weight of a normal electric prop. If you made it a ducted prop/fan, it would produce even MORE thrust, aswell as being 95 percent more effecient at high speeds. If you were to make this, I'd would recommend making it able to rotate for use in vtol applications. It would be able to attain much higher speeds than a conventional prop and have instant acceleration due to the electric engine.

Vtol pulse units: small pulsejets used for vtol operations. (Sorry there isn't much more to say about them)

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulse_Ejector_Thrust_Augmentor

Futuristic RATO boosters: RATO boosters were used by the military to drastically reduce the needed runway length of aircraft, simply thrust in a can. You could make a very high performance version of this to allow planes to perform sub orbital hops, very short or vtol take offs, and ability to brake the sound barrier and get through the transonic speed region at low altitudes.

Motor jet or high performance turboprop: a high performance turboprop can have 15000 shp (shaft horsepower) and be capable of flight well over 600 mph, the tips of the blades break the sound barrier, making these the loudest aircraft engines ever created (the american sonar system designed to detect submarines could hear russian turboprop from miles away). High performance turboprops also have the fastest subsonic acceleration of any modern aircraft (Russians would fly their tu95's near the stall speed of NATO fighters, and then accelerate rapidly causing NATO fighters to have to use after burners to catch up, using all theur fuel). A motor jet would also be interesting as it has all the bonuses of a propeller and a jet engine (high top speed, short take off, effecient) but could be relatively heavy.

Racing radial engine: a high performance radial engine producing 3000-6000 horsepower (the racing plane "rare bear" produces 4000 horsepower and can go 528 mph at sea level). This would be SO cool to have in a mod, it doesn't necessarily fit in with the rest of the engines but it would definitely add to the game. The sound of these engines is the coolest engine noise I know of. They look great (with all the chrome exhaust pipes, counter rotating propellers, and bright paint schemes)

I'd like to see a couple things added to that: a Wankel Rotary engine or two, perhaps with turbo-compounding as elaborated here.

Some AXIAL-cylinder piston engines, like these twain examples.

(the latter's contra-rotating internal parts would help to reduce or even possibly eliminate the problems associated with gyroscopic forces, if it was coupled to a pair of contraprops)

It works, but the deltaV window in MechJeb is calculating infinite deltaV for the plane, once I get into orbit.

Double-ended bi-coupler design, with two RAPIERs and two hypersonic inlets. plus a single Scramjet/intake unit on the spine.

The RAPIERs burn fuel and oxidiser as normal.

It might be a side effect of RAM shortages.

I've not got the ascent profile right yet to get the most out of the XE-202, but I am using the B9 Procedural wings in the form of a very highly-swept delta. You don't need much wing. I'm getting Mach 1 at about 3000m in a 20°climb.

Would it be possible to change the max speed of these engines to mach 40 (I'm using rss) by editing the cfg file? How would o go about doing that?

You shouldn't need mach 40 for an Earth sized planet, unless you're aiming for some kind of escape burn while in atmosphere

>stock Kerbin orbital velocity:mach 8

>max stock instell ramjet speed:mach 18

>rss orbital velocity:mach 25

>modifies ramjet speed: mach 40

I'd just be scaling it to be realistic aswell, as scramjets work mathmatically until mach 40

Also I REALLY want to get to 10000 m/s+ using an air breathing engine

Thanks for your comment though

So as for my earlier post, it appears somebody HAS made a high performance turbo prop and radial engine recently, I'd still love to see what you can make though!

http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/79542-90-SXT-Lack-s-Stock-Extension-N-1-and-Aero-update-SXT-20-15FEV15-KSC-v3

My next projects are going to be a nuclear turbojet and a ducted fan for VTOL aircraft. The nuclear turbojet will be my first Mk.2 sized part, and the ducted fan will have Mk.1 and Mk.2 part types.

I'm also considering making the nuclear tubojet able to gimbal downwards for VTOL as well, to compliment the ducted fan, or maybe make a separate engine with that capability.

Sorry, I don't think I'll make this change. I don't know what math you've been doing, but the sources I used to make this engine placed the top speed range at Mach 12 to 24. The engine already has a slightly lower activation speed than in real life, so I don't think raising the top speed would be very balanced.

Everyone is making nuclear turbojets, I propose you go with a proper Nuclear Thermal Ramjet

Great idea 8bitsblu, based on the Airbus Project?

I can't say I'm familiar with that. Care to elaborate?
