Co-102B Corvette

Recommended Posts

I've updated the Co-102 to the B variant. Changes include:

- Uses pure LF fuel tanks rather than LFO ones. They have a much higher impact tolerance so the ship is more useful in the battle club.

- Redesigned the rear half of the ship to look nicer and more distinctive.

- More docking ports have been added.

The Co-102 is essentially an improved and modernised Co-23, which was itself heavily based on the XC-305. Due to using only liquid fuel I've been able to remove a couple of the LV-Ns and some of the weapon mounts have also been removed to improve the shape. The result is a warship that is only 180 parts!

As is tradition the TWR is very good at 0.5 though the LV-N nerfs have reduced the dV to only 4km/s

I've added docking points for both probes and 1.25m payloads allowing the Co-102 to act as a hauling ship or freighter is military isn't your thing. In the craft file these spots are occupied by a couple of fighters though these can easily be removed and things such as drop-tanks or rovers added.

Had people thinking I meant the car on several previous ships. Might start calling them frigates to avoid confusion.

Because most people are ignorant of the historical fact that a corvette is a ship of the line back during the 18th and 19th centuries. Anyone that studies naval history (or even British history) would have known...

Hey!

I consider the definition of ignorant as "willingly not wanting to know about a certain thing/subject"!

:P

I am not sure if it is "willingly" ignorant or not, given the context here. Let me add a huge DISCLAIMER here before I get too far in my musings on this topic. I am a nerd/geek from birth and have always loved learning - during elementary school, I actually argued with a third grade teacher about the orbit of Pluto being irregular and not a "circle" as she claimed; even though I was right, I was told my parents and the principal that arguing with teachers is never a good idea, even if I was right  When I purchased my first computer in 1982, it was a TRS-80 that had a tape deck backup system and a modem you literally had to place the headset of the phone into the cradle, AND a 5.25 floppy drive. I wanted to learn to program and taught myself the old BASIC operating system (precursor to DOS) using PCWorld magazine. I now teach U.S. history and foreign policy and have my Ph.D... (and the student loans that will never go away) So, with all that said, here it goes:

IF someone comes to a word or concept not understood, and since the forum is on-line, why not copy the word, open a new tab (depending on your browser), then paste it into your search engine's search field, and LEARN what the word means. If you don't want to do that, there is no shame in sending a private message and asking the person posting what the term means if you are too afraid to ask out in the middle of the forum. I am sure that Frozen_Heart would not mind giving a response to a serious inquiry. I know if it were me, I would not mind at all; I enjoy the chances I get to bring enlightenment to others.

To me, with all the resources and abilities to educate oneself on things they are not familiar with, it makes no sense to not know to which she was referring. To simply assume that a corvette is a car (notice, it has a lower case C and therefore NOT a proper noun in English, it would naturally exclude it from being the car, which has its name trademarked: Corvette. That is, if proper English grammar rules are being followed) is not paying any attention to the context the word is being used in. Frozen_Heart is known for making ships of the line for those who participate in the interstellar KSP wars. And in this context of this particular thread it is a corvette and not a Corvette.

After reading the Crock of Gold, I can't help but remember the philosophers. :D:P

I've updated the post with the newer version of the ship. Its got pure LF tanks now which have a better impact tolerance. Forward facing docking ports have also been added which can be used for rockets in the Naval battle club.

I wonder if we(you, mostly due to the ship's similarity) could re-do the BABYLON: Derelict challenge

Sadly due to the LV-N nerfs ships like this really struggle to get as far as Jool. Where they used to have 6k-7k dV, now most have 3k-4k.

Maybe when the pure LF tanks are updated to hold the proper amount of fuel. The pure LF tank holds 160LF. The Rocket fuel version of the same size holds 180LF AND 220 Oxidiser. When that is sorted their range will probrably return to what it should be.

As awesome as it looks, my brain can't warp itself around why you would put all these things on it.

I focus on building practical things, so to me this looks very - ehm - impractical.

It still looks awesome!

(Just impractical)

Multiplayer and trolls will(They probably would put in the time) make these sort of things practical.

Can't imagine any trolls being a problem on KSP multiplayer. Too much effort for them to learn it.

But yeah military ships would be useful if one does appear.

If you have a go on the Naval battle club you'll find out that missiles and armour helps... ;)

The download has the ship without these thing on though so you can put landers or rovers there instead.

Practicality in KSP?

More or less depends on the user :D

True true, I tend to focus - a better choice of words would be obsessed - with practical crafts.

It's like this ( in that order):

- Use as few parts as possible.

- Use the least money as possible.

- As little weight as possible.

- Use as much low tech as possible.

And a few others, which is more related to aesthetics, or lack thereof.

Most of my crafts tend to be very - very barebone. Which means when I see your spacecraft, I see alot of exessive mass without much practical useage. ( I didn't account for the whole, missile bombardment, lasers and space-mines)

I'm not being negative, we just have a different way of playing the game.

When I'm doing proper missions I use barebones and realistic spacecraft.

In a way, you're being an expressive critique xD I imagine you to be a high-class veteran or something :D But your criticism is indeed a positive one, because from this basis ofnidea we can improve the practicality of the ship, but maintaining the design is the challenge! :D

Making something, out of less then nothing has always been a good challenge, like this new endurance plane I am working on. Around Kerbin non-stop with no refueling.
