Lowest amount of parts to Minmus and back!

Recommended Posts

It\'s pretty simple, use the least amount of stock parts and get to Minmus and then return safely to Kerbin.

Rules:

1.) Stock parts only

2.) Using KSP .15 (Duh)

3.) You must survive the entire trip, you can\'t just be a smear on Kerbin.

LeaderBoards:

1.) Apotheosist - 7

2.) SkyRender - 36

3.) Scrapmaster87- 40

A little overpowered, but I had to make the plane change after launch plus 3 burns after launch from minimus.

Stage 1:

Command pod

Parachute

Stage 2:

Stack decoupler

Stage 3:

ASAS

Std fuel tank

Little/landing engine

4x Landing legs

Stage 4:

2x std fuel tank

Little landing engine

Stage 5:

3x Radial decoupler

Stage 6:

3x Radial decoupler

Stage 7:

12x std fuel tanks

3x Large/non-vectoring engines

3x Movable winglets

3x SRBs

Total parts = 40

This is my first rocket to orbit in 0.15 and first attempt at minmus (of course). There\'s a ton of room for improvement over what I did, I expect something to be made of 30 parts or so.

I have that slightly topped with Boomcan.

Parachute

Command Module

Stack Decoupler

LF Tank x3

LF Engine

Stack Decoupler

LFT x21

LF Engine x7

It\'a also decidedly overpowered for the job, being a Munar lander originally. I could drop a few tanks and still get to Minmus and back safely.

Wow, why you guys have so much unecessary on your rockets ???

I did it with 8 parts. This was my second Minmus landing. I think it can be done with less than 8.

Tank and engine blew up, as they so often do with me >:( But the kerbals survived, which is what counts.

I have been working on making things a little more efficient, so I took a shot at this challenge. I have yet to try anything smaller (although clearly it can be easily done) but, bearing in mind that I used to use 10 extra LFTs and an additional LFE just to get to the Mun, I\'m pretty pleased.

Clocks in at 28 parts, unless I\'ve missed something. The struts could probably be taken off, I reckon.

I also make a humble request for extra credit for the fact that even though I knocked one landing leg off during landing, I was able to land with the remaining two anyway....

Improved it to 7 parts. Hmm. I wonder if it\'s possible with 6.

Challenge accepted!!!

6 parts and I even attempted a soft landing on Kerbal, should be possible, just enough fuel left. I launched right into Minmus\'s orbital plane in an unstable orbit. After about 3/4 of an orbit I made my burn, only made 1 small correction afterwords. Once I reached Minmus I killed my velocity so I could have a simple landing burn (burning almost last second). I also landed on the trailing side of Minmus so all I had to do was launch straight up to get back into an orbit around Kerbin. Halfway back I made a correction burn for a 19km perapsis for reentry. Could have saved more fuel by aerobraking better but oh well.

  • 1 year later...

I call hacks.

It took me 61 basic parts to get a one man crew, two science modules, and 16 goo canisters to Minmus. Granted, my first round trip to ANYWHERE that was legit was 579 parts total, to the Mun and back...

The Rocket VII, which is a total of 139 parts with struts, alnding gear, batteries, made it to Minmus and back, did a full take of a metric ton of science, and then returned to Kerbin.

You know what, after realizing it's jsut you peopel seeing about the smallest lander you could make to the mun, I feel stupid. Thank you, adventure mode.

Where can I get .15 from?Really though any kind of entry would be at an unfair advantage at this point not to mention the lack of OP to update or anything of the like. Not to mention there was a challenge the same from midway through last year.
