Part Select Delay

Recommended Posts

KSP: 1.0.2 Windows 32-Bit

Problem: When I am building a rocket in the VAB there seems to be a delay for me to select any part. If I just click on a part as usual then immediately move my mouse off of it, I won't get the part. I have to leave my mouse hovering over it for about a second. It's not always like this though. This gets gradually worse after launching a few rockets. There's no other notable lag though...

I've been noticing that after a while, the part selection becomes a bit unresponsive. It doesn't really get increasingly worse and worse, it seems to plateu.

Edit: I've been noticing it with grabbing parts out of the partlist, not with selecting parts in the build window.

I have many of the same mods installed and experience the same problem after a time. I haven't been able to pin point what the pattern is though. It seems to become more noticeable after I get 150-200+ parts in the build area (VAB or SPH) and is always more noticeable on my PC with HDD vs. the one with the SSD.

I believe Ram is getting close to limit. I have one part that gives me trouble at the moment. The Illuminator MK3, I think this is a near future part. The part works fine but if I change the color of the lighting on it the frame rate drops drastically. No problems with other illuminators.

I had the same problem and I put my max. ram to have of what it was automaticlly at and that worked no more delay

I've just gone from playing stock (where this problem does not exist) to having a bunch of mods installed and now I have this same problem.  I'm not anywhere nears KSP's ram limitations and the problem is apparent right after starting KSP.  So I guess the only thing to do is take out mods 1-by-1 and see when it goes away. I'll update this if I find anything.

I've seen this issue in a variety of mod loadouts and game versions, I'm fairly sure it's just a symptom of general editor-lag/stuttering. If you do manage to nail down the cause, I'd be most interested to hear about it.

Hi,

for me it was mostly KSP interstellar. I think there was something about the wasteHeat and those radiators.

The more radiators (from KSPI, not the 1.04 stocks) i added (to radiate WASTEHEAT), the more stuttering it became.

So, if you use them, just give it a try and save your craft without radiators and check again.

Hey guys, I think I've narrowed it down to one mod.  KIS.

I removed a bunch of mods which add more complex functionality (ScanSat, Infernal Robotics and its extension packs, and USI mods).  (using CKAN to manage mods).  Then launched and reverted a 50 part stock craft 4 times and checked if the problem remained.  It was still there.

I then removed both KAS and KIS (as I suspected KIS might be the culprit).  With those two removed I was able to launch and revert the same craft over 10 times and there was no problem when selecting parts.  So I reinstalled the other mods and re-tested, without KAS and KIS the problem seems to have gone.

I then installed a fresh copy of KSP (taking only my settings.cfg from my current install and the craft I'd been testing with) and installed just KIS.  After reverting the craft 4 times the delay in response to a click on the part list was back.

KIS being the problem makes sense as it adds functionality to the parts list (so you can drag parts into part inventories).  I'll go and report my findings on the KIS thread in a bit.  Would be helpful if you guys could also test if having just KIS installed is sufficient to replicate the problem.

@Speadge I don't have interstellar in my setup so I've not tried that.  Maybe both KIS and interstellar use a common component that causes this? But I doubt that.
