Realy? Hmm thats weird. Tested it again and past 55m/s it goes nose down at my system. Cannot get it of the ground again either. Can it be other mods are causing this?

Is your physics cfg set to 1.0.2? My is set to 1.0, could that be a problem? Let me go test that now.

EDIT:

Yep, that was the problem.

This here is my new, self contained ore refinery:

Which one of you big, strong, 5exy modders is gonna build me a shuttle to get this to the Mün?

(lol... move ur asses guys! :D)

Edit: ssexy was censored but asses wasn't, go figure

Building shuttles takes time, modeling, aerodynamics, manuevering, etc. Please be patient, Mike has the entire weekend, and no doubt he will publish something.

Im away from home for a few hours but will be posting something in a lil bit after that. Should we try with no reaction control in tje shuttle? Also will impliment real fuels so the generators wony use up oms fuel. Also will try jeasts fix and offer suggestions

The thing with landing gear, having the landing gear button overrides the one way animation and still retracts it. Will try something new

Can you confirm the landing goes well, so stall speed around 55m/s and no taking of once touchdown?

Another landing with the aero fix. Time to upgrade the cockpit, started working on this already. Will post some pics soon!

awww, they know I'm just breaking their horns.

I don't care how long it takes, I'll be here waiting for this beast!

It's making great progress, and the aerodynamic improvements courtesy of Jeast have really tested my piloting skills...

As a little nitpick, I think the node location for attachment of the ET is slightly off..there's a gap between the shuttle and both contact points.

Admittedly unclear on the lower point, but I'm fairly sure there is one

Keep up the great work!

Landing goes very well, very hard, but the realistic hard. Stall hits at about 55m/s from the testing, and no taking off once landed.

Strange...I'm finding the whole thing very floaty. I have installed the latest aerodynamic fixes by Jeast and it appears to fly like a butterfly. This is stock aerodynamics we're using right?

Is that right?

Yes that is right...are you coming full on reentry or doing an abort test? The shuttle retains a lot of speed because it required cross range. The shuttle would always pass by the landing site to bleed off speed, then turn back, and land. What is your attempted landing speed?

Meeb, are your oms tanks completely empty when landing? The weight of the fuel will shift the CoM drasticly enough to change the flight characteristics a lot. I have found that you need a lot less lift te be able to land after an abort but that when you do a reentry with the same amount of lift in the parameter you go nose down from reentry to ground. I cannot understand how that can be and it is probably some kind of bug. I created the last configs only based on a complete reentry and you should not be able to float and stall at 55m/s. Real life the shuttle should even float better than this as the shuttle increased speed at a 15 degrees glideslope while in ksp you have to fly a 30 degree glideslope to stay at speed. But this is probably more related to drag and hopefully I can get this far with further tweaking.

If you still have this floating issue please let me know and give all the details so I can try to replicate it.

My attempted landing speed was around 80m/s, and I found that I could float it to about 20m/s

I would dump all but about 100 units for maneuvering...surely that can't have such a drastic effect? I'll dump all of it and see what happens. Thanks

100 should indeed not have too drastic of an effect. Did you use rcs during the flare?

We need more testers and details to replicate.

Sorry for the lateness. Blender is messing me around. But i got the dump valve, drogue chute in tail. Control surfaces use power. Adjusted oms fuel and added an electricity generator (fuel cel) that consumes fuel.

I will put it up as a complete upload. Sorry wheels not ready yet...

But I have been testing the one piece orbiter and a new cabin that you can see through the windows into the cockpit.

Thanks jeast I will include your latest work and thanks to the testers also

How did I miss this video on the thread??

First off, that landing was amazing!

I dream of landing like that.

How did you set targeting the runway on the navball?

Is that as simple as clicking the runway and "set as target"?

(I've never been landing close enough to try is why I ask)

Secondly, I watched that video 3 times in full screen on a 52" screen.

It gave me goose bumps ;)

EDIT: I vote to stick this video on page 1!

...at least until there's a completed version model
