Gene sums it up perfectly "they have to be mad to propose such a thing, and we must be equally mad to be considering it!"

Also, steam is slightly going wacky right now, incase you cant see the image., they want me to put a class D roid into orbit of moho

that payout is not worth it at all IMO :sticktongue:

I guess the best way to do it would be to make a refinery tug. Tugs it around, burns its fuel, then mines from the asteroid and refills.

Yeah that sounds like the best method. Nuclear tug with a refinery and drills, you could probably accomplish it and still get a nice payout. Probably not worth the time and effort though :P

Yeah, I would not envy you your braking burn at Moho, although a KR-2L might do the job...

Is anyone else too busy cringing at the briefing paragraph?
I don't even see them anymore, they're literally the stupidest procedural feature I've ever seen in a video game, including the stuff I wrote in BASIC on my TRS-80...

I don't read them, at all. They make no sense it's not even funny :(

I find the briefings mildly amusing, although I don't read them often.

I know. It's sad. I made an attempt a while ago to make them readable, ended up not being the only one. Worked with Paedar187 and made Coherent Contracts. DuoDex has been looking after it for quite a while now

Me reading the original post:

"Class D asteroid in orbit around Minmus? Okay, that's kinda massive, but not too bad; I just brought a Class B into orbit around Minmus and a Class D would just require a lot more fuel.... OH! MOHO! No way!"

It could be done by using gravity assists. Messenger used such a strategy, it made several Venus and Mercury flybys to lose orbital energy before it was inserted to orbit. I think that it saved more than 10 kilometers per second. However, it is quite long and complicated process which needs suitable help software (or much masochism). Time limit of 10 years may also be a problem. That would be interesting maneuvering challenge but if you think economically you would get same money much easier by launching satellites.

It's a 10Y duration contract. That provides some room.

Bring it to LKO, and set up a fuel refinery. As you mine Ore the mass of the asteroid decreases, but it stays a Class D. The visual size won't change, nor will the class for the contract.

Mine it down to a nice small mass, like 10 tonnes or so. Then you can easily take it wherever you want. And in the meantime you've got a full fuel depot in LKO.

This works for all the asteroid contracts. Catapult a class E out of the system? It's a lot easier to chuck a 10-ton shell.

I haven't tried mining asteroids yet but why can't you send up an asteroid redirect ship with refueler module and intercept outside Kerbins SOI? Then you could mine all the fuel you need? I would (perhaps stupidly) immediately accept that contract.

I agree that a Mammoth or two is called for... Fun? Seems it...

On the plus side you will have a nice fuel station at Moho when complete...

yeah I totally agree. Total waste of screen space.

The contracts really need pictures, one like this should have a picture of a class D and a picture of Moho. Other contracts should have pictures of required parts. I would have thought that would be simpler to code and would actually be meaningful. (unless of course their solution is to cram more unnecessarily high res images into RAM)
