docking ports - can I transfer anything from anywhere?

Recommended Posts

Just about to build my first station around the mun and going to do it in two parts to save weight. But I'm unsure exactly how docking works.

Can you put a docking port on any section of a craft and transfer fuel and/or kerbals through it? Eg I have a cupola on the top with a docking port on - I assume I can transfer kerbals through that, but can I also transfer fuel that will magically go to the fuel tanks? Likewise the bottom of the ship is a fuel tank. I assume I can transfer fuel there, but can I also transfer Kerbals

If the two tanks are connected via ports, you can transfer fuel (it seems that only liquid, not propellant) by pressing ALT-right-click on each tank. Then the options "In" and "Out" will appear. Kerbals are not transferable in the stock - you need to move them from part to part by EVA. And if this does not make sense to you (I think that kerbals should be able to move in the station), you can use Ship Manifest mode, which enable the function of transferring every object on connected parts.

NO.

you can and should not transfer Kerbals to fuel tanks!

I am pretty sure they are. You either click or alt-click on the hatches and transfer them across, no EVA required.

 I tried today to transfer kerbal from the living area on the orbit to the lab, tried clicking the way you described, but it did not work. Well, I hope you right ))

Yes you can transfer fuel but also monopropellant, kerbals, even electricity. Just beware of the type of dockingport you use. The junior for instance cannot transfer kerbals but only fuel and the normal one can transfer almost everything.

kerbals can transfer over Kas wires or pipes :)

In short if parts are docked you can transfer anyting between two parts.

Exception is science data who reqire an Kerbal to pick up
