Ran across Lunar Flight last night, it\'s a fun little distraction from KSP. Apparently it\'s also done in the Unity engine.

Thought I\'d post and let folks know it\'s on sale for $2.50 through the 25th.

Game review I found on the YouTubes:

Cool. Why is everything sold on steam though? I mean the only indie game that\'s popular that isn\'t AT ALL steam related are Minecraft and KSP. KSP better steam.

OT:

I have a friend who plays the game, I tried to play it, doesn\'t interest me.

Joey, let me quote Wikipedia to answer your question:

Although Valve never releases sales figures, Stardock, former owner of competing platform Impulse, estimated in 2009 that Steam had a 70% share of the digital distribution market for video games.

It just works. If your game is on Steam, at least one in two gamers with an internet connection will at least read the title at some point. And they seem to offer good enough deals to indie developers for them to accept.

Just a warning to KSP players about Lunar Flight:

It does indeed use Unity just like KSP; it also is revealing an issue with playing more than one Unity game; it sets a certain entry into your registry to make its control scheme work properly; this entry breaks KSPs control scheme and causes your keyword and/or mouse to quit working in-game. It requires you to manually edit the registry and remove the setting in question

So play these games together at your own risk; it can be done with extra work, just be aware before you spend the money.

How did you gather all of this info, nonetheless the solution so quickly?

This problem has been cropping up for weeks at least, the crux of the matter is that Unity keeps an essential registry entry as global across all Unity programs, in this case it is input method though there may be others with other games we don\'t yet know about.

In Lunar Flights case though, it overwrites this key with it\'s preference for DirectInput, while KSP relies on RawInput, thus stopping KSP\'s controls from working.

The fix entails manually deleting this key, though I have no idea if this then breaks Lunar Flight.

Many KSP players are also likely to like Lunar flight, so a sale of this sort could be a disaster for the support forum.

There\'s a post on the shovsoft forums by the developer stating exactly that, and includes a batch file to install/remove the setting as needed.

Hi guys,

I\'m the developer of Lunar Flight, just an update on the registry key issue, all my files do is either add the key or remove it. Unity uses RawInput by default but there were problems with that caused allot of controllers to not work properly as they were not using the calibration direct input provides. The Steam installer no longer adds the key to avoid conflicts with other Unity games like KSP.

I have it on good authority that the next release of Unity will ignore the Direct Input Key so future releases of KSP built with that version will no longer be affected if the DirectInput registry key is present.

For the record, Xbox 360 controllers work fine as do some other newer controllers that use xinput. So if you remove the key everything will still work fine in Lunar Flight but you may have problems getting your joysticks to function correctly.

On a related note about this topic, the Sale has been extended until June 2nd if you are still interested.

One last thing about Steam, as some one has allready mentioned the market share is massive and is the best place for indie games to be available.

I\'d been looking at this for ages debating whether to buy or not but the sale sealed the deal; i bought it to help me train for KSP missions as i was having trouble with landing/flying with RCS/rockets.

it\'s been so much more than a training game though and i\'ve completely fallen in love with the flight simulation and visuals, I just wish there was more to do now that I\'ve finished all the maps and grown comfortable with the flying.

If anyone else is on the fence like i was then i highly recommend you try it out and don\'t give up if you suck at first.

I\'d really like to run, say, KSP v0.25 -- and see graphics like that :D

BTW I much, eh, 'appreciated' those black PR references to KSP in the video. Especially to 'playing piano' >:(

Kidding

:)

That video is by Scott Manly and not anyone in this thread. He makes lots of KSP videos too, and he\'s also an actual Astrophysicist, so he sort of knows what he\'s talking about when he speaks on craft and control designs.

but then again, KSP and LF are quite different in scope so their differences are pretty natural.
