Vertical Takeoff and Whaaaaaaaanding!

This isn't a particularly flashy plane, actually it looks pretty bad, but it's meant as more of a technology demonstrator and it still flies pretty well.

Since 1.0.2, vtols have been considered ruined by some, though dedicated and talented builders can still make great craft (cupcake), others need a little help with ideas on getting the engine to fit and the CoM in the right place.

So I made this, it's small, light, and takes off vertically, it even handles, take a look.

Here's the craft, just rename the extension to .craft, pop it in a save and you're good to go.

Action group 1 is the horizontal jet, 2 is the vertical jet.

I've noticed nothin different about VTOL Building and flying in 1.0-.2

Then you've not noticed the loss of power, or the engine CoM being a few metres in front of the part, this makes vtols a bit squirrely to fly.

Never noticed a real power loss . . . except when I took one down on Laythe.

Yeah, I had several SSTO spaceplanes that were capable of VTOL, but the hit to the J-33 'Wheesley" thrust definitely hampered those designs. I was however able to create this VTOL last week. It has excellent range and handling. I'm trying to make an amphibious version of it, but I can't find parts that are buoyant enough to keep it high enough in the water. Might just be too heavy to float high.

I've actually created an entirely new design series for VTOL concepts in my aerospace "company"...only a few design so far, but others are almost done.

The power loss in the basic jet engine is horrible, my stock turboshaft engine development has ended. I would've taken a different approach.
