Individual component in construction

Hi, very sorry if this is already answered, tried a few search terms and failed.

I'm just simply wondering how I click on an individual part of a construction to perhaps remove it. Just now all I can do is take the top module away.

Do I hold down a key while mouse clicking, for example, I have a tall rocket but realised I've done something wrong but don't want to start building from new, how do I remove the 1 offending part without scrapping the ship?

Clicking on any part should select that part, but also everything attached to it. The assembly can be deleted with the del key. But you can't take a part out of the middle of an assembly, if that's what you're asking, because KSP uses a tree-like system to trace valid attachment back to the root part.

Hi Jack, KSP craft use a tree system, like a file system, so you can't just take one piece away.

But just as you can move all the subfolders and delete an offending directory, you can remove everything after the part you don't want by picking up the next part and putting it to one side.

Then you can remove the part you don't want, and reattach the rest of the craft.

It's a good idea to back up the craft before making big changes, just rename it and save it under the new name and you'll have a copy.
