The fairings.....

Not so. I am confident in my building abilities to the point that I can pretty much do anything in KSP.

I have worked with the fairings since they came out and they are a bit** to work with. Plain and simple. Anyone who says they are easy or useful is obviously making very simple rockets.

Did you notice that the sides of the fairings are often not even straight?

the 'open view' thing lags like crazy and gets in the way constantly. And woe betide anyone who tries to subassembly them or move them. They just disappear.

Squad needs to completely redesign them or pay someone to do it.

I have to agree with all of this.

One thing I do like is that, unlike Pfairings, I can make it any shape I like.

They're okay. I dislike how there are bug sometimes where I detach my fairings and the game thinks my ship is traveling across land (out in space).

I also really dislike that if you bring a fairing to space, and reload, the casing around the base disappears and you're left with a floating fairing. That is incredibly lame.

The people complaining are a vocal minority, it doesn't really say much if the majority likes it or not. Just ask if you're supposed to use far, and then you'll see what i mean.

Only problem i've personally got with them is the fiddly interstage fairing connection (and lack of structural farings). Otherwise, In this regard I found stock farings actually to be more usefull than procfarings (less parts, less unnecessary weight).

I think you might be well advised to attempt construction of some in-line fairings. You might change your mind.

Vocal? Yes.

Minority? No.

Hmm, that's a good point - just what percentage of users do you think have a significant problem with fairings? Evidence? Personally I've not had a problem with them… yet. I like them actually. But I admit I've not played with interstage fairings much yet, and I tend to design rockets the way they work IRL. For those… you don't end up using complex fairings. You use preconfigured stock ones that are even more restrictive than KSP's.

I'd say more flexible fairings aren't needed quite as much as deployable mechanisms (yeah, I've not tried Infernal Robotics yet… but might have to soon).

My interstage fairings have worked pretty well, with the exception of having to stage off the fairing prior to igniting the next stage. If I put both the fairing removal and next engine on the same stage the engine doesn't activate.

Pretty minor once I figured it out, though. That said, I would like a stock tweakable to set the number of sections, as is available in the Stock Bug Fix mod.

Ha! Looks like the Stock Bug Fix mod has been updated to mitigate my problem of fairing segments getting caught! Time to get the latest version...
