    • Yes, I'll follow. I'll die before someone installs the OS without proper knowledge.

I actually have never used any OS other than Windows Millenium (talk about abomination) and windows 8. Since it's possible to de activate all the touchpad/tablet stuff from the start menu, i actually quite like it. It's probably because win8 is FAR less of an abomination than win millenium and all the other appleOS crap i had to stick with for all these (long) years.

I know next to nothing about Win10 : when is it coming out, is it free if i own win8, will my files and all data be saved, will my hardware be fully compatible, will i have to re-install every single driver...etc etc.

I probably won't be upgrading to it since i won't notice any difference and i might be too lazy for this.

Not a free OS... as people will soon discover. Neither is MS known for backward compatibility.

What are you supposing they'd do? Windows 10 is free to get for the next year, and it is almost certain once one buys it, they own it (for that machine, of course). Microsoft is known for stupidity, but not even they would charge a subscription fee for their operating system-- imagine the reaction of somebody buying a crappy netbook in two years and being told that he'd have to pay recurring fees to use the operating system. Charging people for compatibility for legacy programs would also be ridiculous.

The plural of anecdote isn't data, but nobody I know has had compatibility programs with Windows 8 with 7, and Windows 10 is far more similar to 8 than it is with its precursor.

I just tried Windows 10 Technical Preview. Smooth startup, nice Bing integration.

However, the disk thrashes a lot, still too many UI quirks to be considered stable. You can find things from the three generations (XP, Vista/7, and 8/10) of Windows, showing how inconsistent the user experience has gotten. For example, you can still find dial-up and none of the menus or even UI style have been updated. You can also see that winlogon.exe's icon is still Windows 8's default icon instead of 10's default icon.

Conclusion: I'm tired of this flat design fluff that Apple, Microsoft, Google et al. keep shoving down my throat. I'm definitely going the Arch Linux way once my computer is due for an upgrade (in about 2-3 years; this one has 6) or M$ drops support for Windows 7.

I mean, I don't want to say that we're entering a dark age of computing, but seriously? Why is Microsoft pushing us power users off? ;.;
