What have you made in real life (showcase)

HI all,

Today I posted incorrectly in a thread that gave me an idea.

I haven't seen a thread for things made in real life yet so I thought I would start one. So this is the place to show anything that you have made in real life. It can be anything at all, just nothing to do with bodily functions!

I will start:

Here is a little bow I made a while ago.

vxjgif.jpg

15qq6f6.jpg

309oayu.jpg

It was made from a single oak board. I used handtools which took weeks due to the density of the wood. I used another board as a tiller and when putting screws into it I twisted off the head of the screw!

The bow isn't particularly powerful, due to the size of the board it is small with a low draw weight. It could be used to catch fowl with practice.

The grain is not really correct but due to the low draw weight and strength of the wood it doesn't compromise the strength of the bow at all.

Let's see what you lovely people have made!

MJ

i make my own pcbs, all be it the quality is questionable. last 2 major attempts to build something both failed, both from the same misjudgement in engineering. i wanted to run the chip at 3.3v but neglected to put any level shifting on the programming header. the solution to this problem is yet another board to downshift the 5v programmer signals down to 3.3v, probibly with some zener diodes or voltage dividers, though one signal would need a mosfet that i dont have to boost the voltage to 5v, and i dont really feel like digging through my junk pile. one of the chips i fried was a socketed attiny84, but i had a backup. i also fried a surface mount tqfp atmega328 on a gamepad replacement board that i am not looking forward to replacing.

heres one of my more successful builds. it works but i never finished writing the i2c/serial interface code. anyway the firmware i wrote wouldn't fit on the chip and needed some asm voodoo to make it smaller, though i never got around to learning avr asm. might just cheat and use a attiny4313, though i never got around to ordering one.

Does this count? I only made half of it (a third of it?), but it's something I've made in "Real Life."

http://www.reyrey.com/solutions/era/fixed_ops/rfid.asp

Edit: If that's a bit too much on the professional side of things, I made most of the stuff in this scene, except for the rails in the foreground (which were laid by someone else) and the depot building. Scratchbuilt the bridge specifically, as close to plan as the space would allow, most of the scenery work is mine as well. While I didn't scratch-build the locomotives, some of the paintwork and all of the weathering is mine.

Does it still count if digitally made?

Sure!

I have made these little papermodels for abou 4 years now, and I still make them now.

By the way, these are very small, and rather tougher than you would expect for a paper model.

Yes! I was waiting for you to post these. I love the little shuttle!

Well, I build plastic model kits, currently I'm working on the IL-28 "Beagle" from Tamiya, just got a badger 155, and I'm testing it out on that Chinese air force two-tone camouflage, I'm still a total beginner at double action airbrushes.

Any pics of said model?

I don't have pictures available, sorry. I bought my dad the Revell 1/96 scale Constitution kit, this was about 25 years ago, a birthday gift. We built it together. It kept us busy for quite a while, literally took us months to build. The rigging was a task and a half. It was an awesome kit to build, a lot of attention to detail. This link gives an idea of what goes into building one.

Years later, around 2005 or so, I helped him a little again with a built from scratch project - the DD-783 he served on in the Navy. Because the ship had undergone so many revisions/upgrades, much of what he fashioned was from memory and the scant few photographs he had of 'his' ship... the configuration of which very closely matches the one in the image below (courtesy http://www.ussgurke.org).

Well...

I made a motor out of (mostly) LEGOs. :)

Sounds good guys, try and post pictures if you can.

I make useless sprites for a horribly obscure online game called "Space Station 13", hoping they get implemented somehow. I drew a cute dove, and now I am working on a homebrew personal digital assistant. I can't really show the files here because I don't know how to scale the 32x32 sprites up to a reasonable size without blurring.

Put them in any photo editing software, and when you scale uncheck any anti-aliasing options.

These sprites are pretty cool!

I'm making a 3D airliner in Blender. It still misses most of its textures, and the illumination needs to be readjusted:

I've also given my bicycle some care. Now it looks like new, despite being 35 years old :D (Now I should find a better lock instead of my current krap)

Since bikes have come up, I built up my own road bike from a bare frame.

I ordered the raw carbon frame from the factory, then I designed the paint and decals - though I left the actual painting to the pros. I built it up with full Ultegra 6800 components. "Cerberus" is my own made-up house brand, since IMHO unbranded bikes look unfinished. Here is the frame while testing the size and positioning of the decals before painting:

Mother of God, that bicycle looks so professional (I guess because it IS)! I wouldn't dare to build one here in Hungary, a bicycle like that represents so large value that it would attract not only thieves, but even burglars to our home.

Thanks! I have a hardtail mountain bike also, though I didn't build that one. I split my time between road and dirt, they are very different types of riding. Different skill sets, different type of fitness, even the riding culture is different.

Nice bikes! I went with Specialized

Probably my favorite 'big brand' bike manufacturer. Here is my current specialized, the Pfix:

I would be very happy for people to post more pics of bike builds!
