Realistic Cockpit View

Hello everybody,

I'm playing KSP for years now, I start playing on aircraft only since january the first, building fighters, targets on ground etc...

But I have an issue, when I try to perform a ground attack, the cockpit view isn't good enough to observe the ground. I really would like to have a more realistic fighter cockpit, that allows me to see the ground before hand.

As you can see in different real pics, the pilot has a real view of what he is doing in the air :

Also, the pilot could see directly front of the aircraft in order to shoot with:

But in KSP, the only "correct" cockpit is the MK1, and it is front of the view, preventing to fly IVA or to shoot with gatling gun (thx to BD armory). It is very difficult to see the ground or what there is around the aircraft ...

My question: is there any possibility to modify the mk1 IVA:

- to reduce lightly the size (it seems there is an option in the menu but it doesn't work for me)

- or to raise the point of view of the pilot (like a cushion under his ass)

- or "simply" creating a new IVA view ....

Thank for reading

It's not just the fov, the point of view is also much higher than in kerbal cockpits. That's mostly because of the eye position of kerbals in contrast to humans, kerbal heads take up like half of their body height, there's at least 5 times more foreahead sitting above their eyes making it impossible to position them high enough under the ceiling without tricks. As a result, you can get the kerbal to barely peek over the ledge of a canopy, let alone see the ground below properly. I think everyone who's made an IVA has bitten their nails on that one at some point.

It diffinetly needs something clearer. Like a bubble, with no structures and the rear side of the cockpit empty.

If someone could help thank you !

Or explain in brief words how to create one if possible ?

By the way, those pics are of fighters that have bubble canopies.

Lemme quote this from Wikipedia:

However, as speed continued to increase, it became necessary to enclose cockpits -- and this, in turn, streamlined aircraft so that they were faster. Increased "G-loading" during maneuvers forced pilots to wear tight, restrictive shoulder harnesses, and armor plating began to be installed to protect pilots from projectiles coming from behind.

Unfortunately, these changes denied a pilot the ability to twist around and look directly behind (known as "Checking Six," or looking at the "Six O'clock" position directly to the rear). Mirrors offered some help, but had a narrow field of view.

Official purpose of cockpits: SSTOs

SSTOs = Faster than Sanic

But there's this mod (scroll down to RetroFuture). For everything else, there's MasterKerb.
