Cant control rocket (sas on, electrictiy on, picth levels move) but nearly no ship movement

Recommended Posts

Small rocket, big rocket, even tried with 1 single fuel tank and engine, still it looks like its got no torque as the rocket doesn't move.

Ive looked on some forums, theres more people with this problem.

Does anyone know how to fix it? What causes it?

Thanks

You'll get better answers if you include your craft files, but there are a ton of circumstances when you'd see virtually no movement.

One is if your rocket is going fairly fast through atmosphere. The aerodynamics of the rocket will tend to keep it going in a straight line. If you've got static (unmoving) fins on the rocket, that'll make this even more pronounced.

Another is if your rocket is very large and doesn't have control units on it, like SAS or RCS.

Obviously having both of those is worse.

Try starting sandbox game and finding an engine with high gimballing, add an SAS control unit and don't exceed 200 m/s in the lower atmosphere. If that doesn't work, you've got some serious bugginess. Otherwise, it's just a matter of getting used to aerodynamics.

I just tried this right now, 1 single fuel tank and the 200 lt engine that helps to turn. The same thing happened, the ship goes totally out of control at about 3-4k kms high, I cut the engine and wait for the velocity to reach close to 0 and I cant even turn the rocket at that time.

It will move up to about 15 degrees from vertical position and doesn't move past that, even with engine off completely and velocity at about 0, just before it starts falling.

It is something else other than parts and dynamics Id like to add, it was working before just fine, I play this game every now and then for years.

Just recently about a week ago it started acting like this. I'm using windows 10 btw, do you think it could be that? Or related ..

What do you mean by the electricity being "on"? Because it sounds very much like you're out of power. Pictures of the ship with UI showing would definitely help.

That's what I'm thinking. Try adding an extra battery or two and see what happens.

The new aerodynamics model of 1.0.x is much more realistic than the previous model, and as such, can lead to "uncontrollability" in atmosphere. As said before, pictures are worth a thousand words.

I mean: Electricity is on.

I know about that, but it isn't that, as I said it was working fine just about a week ago.

What probe core are you using? The OCTO2, Stayputnik, and QBE don't have the ability to control SAS.

There is no "on" for electricity.

I'm using the very first pod that you have when you start the game.

That's the problem, I think. The Stayputnik (spherical probe core) has no reaction wheel torque. You need to add a reaction wheel, or monopropellant with RCS blocks.

I don't think Stayputnik is available upon game start, though.

We still need pictures

It isn't. The only thing you have when you start the game is the Mk1. That should have enough torque. It sounds like no electricity or maybe the torque is off.

Alright guys after I read your posts here, Ive made several tests and its DEFINETELY some sort of bug.

I ran the same ship over and over again the same exactly way, sometimes it triggers the bug where the torque stops using electricity, other times works fine.

For example: I press W and it uses electricity, and other times it doesn't use any electricity at all even though I keep pressing W A S D trying. (which is when it doesn't turn)

Just give one example that has the same symptom: if you lose probe control with RemoteTech mod because of no connection. There are so many different causes that can be easily distinguished by a picture but any text description is likely to lack necessary information (yours no exception).

So, without picture, we can only guess, and that may be completely irrelevant to your problem. Insisting it's a bug doesn't help at all. Even if you post in support forum, I believe it will get ignored unless you provide craft/picture.
