Suggestion: Add Navball markers to the smiley list.

I'd love to do this but unfortunately technical limitations apply here. Perhaps in the future :)

I'm kind of surprised to hear that, vBulletin is so easy to customize like that.

Oh well, thanks for considering it anyway :(

Indeed this has NOTHING to do with technical limitations. The only limitation is the will to actually do it.

Thank you for your expert and fully informed opinion. The limitation in this case is that I cannot upload files to the forum server, including images for new smilies.

Nobody said YOU are the one that's supposed to update them. It's just that those who can won't do it.

[NOTE- I don't know about everything, this may be incorrect.] The image upload feature on this forum was COMPLETELY disabled on this forum, and for anyone to upload a file, it would have to be reeanbled. And if you did that, someone could upload something in that time. And I think it was disabled because it was a security risk.

I'll grant that maybe the forum staff can't do it, but surely somebody has full administrator access to the forum server. If not then as 5thHorseman says you're just asking for trouble sooner or later.

Of course last I heard Squad wanted to change to a different forum software anyway.

[NOTE- Still not any kind of expert]

So what if something breaks? Or a critical update comes out to vBulletin?

I don't think anything would need to be uploaded from someone's hard drive, maybe from the internet or something, but I don't think that anything the forum needs is on a hard drive. Plus, I think this is a pretty old version of Vbulletin, it's 4.2.1, and I think the latest is 5, which probably doesn't have the security problems of this version.

I think uploads were complete disabled, and any change to that status would allow anyone to upload.

Here we go, from 29th April 2014, 17:30:

Alex (aLeXmOrA): Been setting some things SpacePport-related that will be shared later this week. Also, I’m doing some upgrading tests to our KSP Forums, so they can be running on the latest version of vBulletin 5.1.0 as soon as possible.

I don´t think that belongs to HarvesteR´s jobs. He is a developer, not a forum manager. Maybe our new community manager would be more concerned.

The forum is fully managed by a hosting company, so if something breaks they'll be the ones to take action. Our access to the server is limited for security / risk management reasons. No need to worry about the forums burning down :)

Alshain, how did you do it in the post you linked?

They are images from the wiki embedded using the %7Boption%7D tag. It works but is much less convenient than something like :prograde:. Unfortunately, it sounds like this suggestion isn't feasible right now, despite its merit.
