I like old prop planes! But ... Don't see any propellers on yours!

I challenge you to build a plane, using a single mod (KAX), to rival these two:

Jup, just the old reaction wheel trick, sgt_flyer did his in a fairing IIRC.

I don't really like how the fairings function now.

Yeah the stock fairings are horrid. So do you spin the props up before launch? I guess that is kind of realistic. Kinda like individually starting the engines.
