Plane problems.

Recommended Posts

I've been flying some planes over to the Airfield island. When I was approaching I let down my gear. Then they ripped off and the all the parts disconnected. Can someone help me with this? It's only on Mk 3 parts and the gear were the two biggest ones. It happened with my airliner too. I also have a problem with long planes that wiggle they selfs to death. I can't land anymore with a lot of MK 3 planes because of the first problem. f3 says structural linkage failure. Can anyone help me prevent it?

My initial thoughts are that you are traveling too fast when you lower them and they are being ripped off by aerodynamic forces. However, I can't quite remember whether or not the new gear is affected by that or not (I mostly avoid aircraft) and I don't have my computer with me to check it out.

I had a Concord BREAKING THE SOUND BARRIER WITH gear down, but they stayed put. Same gear as the planes with problems.

Wouldn't be a problem with overspeeding. KSP doesn't model that.

You could have a clipping issue with the gear where deploying them triggers a collision. I have a shuttle with clipped OMS tanks and every once in a while the OMS clusters will forcibly eject themselves from the vehicle on the pad.

I agree with Slashy (I almost always do).

The most likely cause is that the landing gear is clipping something during deployment of the gear.

A picture of the craft would help immensely with diagnosis of the problem.

Happy landings!

probably the problem, though I think my other plane has no clliping.

You might also have a problem with flimsy structures and too much authority in the reaction wheels. That has a habit of shaking airplanes to death.

Also there's a known bug where planes will have a "collision" with buildings on KSC grounds even when they're nowhere near them, but this will show up in the mission report (wing section collided with spaceplane hangar for example).

Well I have learned the reaction wheels problem, the hard way.

Had this one time with the big gear and mk3 parts. Ends up the gear was mounted on a cargo bay, and my guess is that it clipped through it when trying to deploy. Try to use the offset tool and put the landing gear far from the bay, still mounted on it. It solved the problem for me.
